Informative Speech On Mental Health

Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be more educated on Texas’s roadside attractions, as well as relate to the sites I will discuss in my presentation.

1. This informative speech on “The Cause of Homelessness “is very Inform able and worth listening to, because in today’s economy it could be you or me. Some seem to think homelessness is choice. I find this speech relevant to the world I live in today, due to the high unemployment rate, declining job market, and the economic hardships that families are enduring. This topic is not a broad one, but yet can be spoke of in depth due to the fact I see many homeless people but never thought it would be me until I seen a family friend who has lost everything, this is what made me more aware that it is not just a choice and any day it could be me. Laughter relates to positive thinking. The positive thinking helps us to improve our immune system and become healthier. It helps in removing the negative thoughts from our mind and not letting our immune system become worse further.

Transition signal: In conclusion, the next time you fill up your gas tank might not be cheaper, but at least you will know why you are paying more for gas.

One of the things I noticed in my speech was how many times I looked at the screen. I didn’t realize how many times I looked at my prop until I watched myself on video. It was distracting and took away from what I was saying to my audience. Additionally, I feel like I could have improved speaking about the different experiments performed. I feel like they were rushed and I should have stuck to talking about only one or two experiments instead. With my time being rushed, I feel like I couldn’t explain as much of the experiments as I wanted to or as in depth. Lastly, I should have worked on the conclusion for my speech. I wasn’t able to come up with a good conclusion, so it felt as if I left some of the speech left hanging. I mentioned ethical issues performed in the experiments without actually going over it in the speech. Next time, I know I will come up with a solid ending and just wrapping up ideas I already went over in class. I know that for my persuasive speech, I will work on my eye contact, slowing down, and coming up with a solid ending.

Anxiety is one of the most common illnesses in America. Your palms can get sweaty, you get nervous and your blood pressure can increase. Some students can go through anxiety every day just by having to go to school or present in class like I am now. I am presenting a speech in front of a decent size class some of who I am familiar with and some of you who I barely know so that can be a bit scary and nerve racking.

I realized the ignorance and false accusations that the world holds on this illness. Therefore, I wish to treat, monitor, and understand mental health within the correctional system. I have taken steps to pursue this plan by having aspirations to go to graduate school and further my education. I have shown interest in the University of Wisconsin- Madison, the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities as well as, Georgia State University. All which have exceptional programs for my interests. I have also pursued my interests by applying to internships within mental health. Additionally, I volunteer at Piedmont Hospital in hopes to spark my understanding and gain knowledge of mental health illnesses. Lastly, I have worked with mental health patients within the Best Buddies Organization. This group works to assist students with differing illnesses. So far, my actions have been vast and successful. The reason I wish to work within the correctional system is because many individuals suffering from mental health illnesses unfortunately find themselves within the correctional system. As Bill Clinton once said, “Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but stigma and bias shame us all.” Why the world is so blind to depression, eating disorders, and schizophrenia is beyond me. Running away from this reality is only hurting those that are suffering. Ignorance is no longer

other parts of the world have reported signs of depression by being sad for different reasons. Depression is a normal occurrence that follows the death of a loved one, challenges of life struggles, problems in social life and the feeling of low self-worth.

Attention Getter: Have you ever been down in the dumps? Always feeling helpless or worthless? No matter what you do you just can’t seem to be happy. Well if you have ever felt that way this could be a sign of depression.

I. (Gain attention and interest) Many of us have encountered 3D technology at one point in our lives such as the red and blue comics usually found at the back of magazines, or a have watched a 3D movie at IMAX. It is with no doubt that, we all find this technology to be a fascinating one.

Worry about others' disapproval. Afraid of rejection, of not fitting in. Anxious to enter a conversation, afraid you'll have nothing to talk about. You are undergoing the daily, chronic trouble of living with this mental disorder we call social anxiety disorder.” How many of you know someone or have heard of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, or personality disorders?

Josh, I appreciate the feedback. This speech was not my best work due to a combination of anxiety and Murphy’s Law. I have communication in any form of communication that is not face-to-face communication. I have severe anxiety when communicating in any other form. I pronounce words wrong and I have a strong accent that I would normally not have in everyday conversation. I really don’t know how to describe it. As far as sound/video quality is concerned I had a dedicated setup but my microphone decided to quit working. I have ordered two new microphones to avoid that problem in the future.

I chose this topic because I wanted to focus on a matter that is relevant to the audience in order for them to be interested. Also, I wanted the audience to learn something new that they could apply to their lives currently.

I'm amazed by the clear majority of “successful” people who overcame adversity and hardship. How do we react to ours? Do we crumble like cookies under the thought of a challenge and avoid them.. or do we conquer challenges and own them? Well, I say, it's up to us. All this [stress] plays into a huge feedback loop that can determine health, happiness, and ultimately our "success". For better or for worse. Why did patients in our readings have such different personal narratives of illness from what seemed to be very similar and even in the same biomedical causes of illnesses? These questions highlight the view that there is a deeper transcending non-biomedical cause of illness, which then, effects outcomes of treatment and healing. I believe an attitude of resilience fostered through experience, plays a huge role in how people react to their illness which then affects how one responds to treatment/therapy. How is it that some people in life have suffered so much and at the end of the day, sometimes after years. not only remain intact mentally, but thrive in the world and carry on with their lives, despite their condition(s) and exposure to trauma. Against all the odds. Through personal experience and evidence presented in the readings. I will persuade you to understand why I feel humans may respond so differently; to treatment and the processes of healing. I don’t expect you to agree with everything I say, you are entitled to that.
