In addition, environmental management is crucial for the long term survival of Haiti, strategies to reduce deforestation and claiming back land unsuitable for housing would lead to better soil quality and less risk of landslides and liquefaction to buildings should another event occur. It can take years for a city or country to recover from a major event of this kind and when a third world country is involved, the result is usually exponentially worse than in a developed country. On August 24, 2014 a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in and around the city of Napa, CA. The earthquake killed one person and injured over 150 people. And these people were treated at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa [1]. More and more earthquakes occurred on this earth. So this grasps people’s attention.

• This earthquake may not have released all of the strain stored in its rocks next to the fault this reveals a potential earthquake in the Santa Cruz Mountains in the near future. PRIMARY AUDIENCE OUTCOME (I want my audience to…): I want my audience to gain knowledge so they themselves can use the information I presented to prepare for an earthquake.

Earthquake Hazards occur when there are adverse effects on human activities. This can include surface faulting, ground shaking and liquefaction. In this essay I will be discussing the factors that affect earthquakes, whether human such as population density, urbanisation and earthquake mitigation or physical such as liquefaction, magnitude, landslides and proximity to the focus.

A scenario represents the simulation of a possible future earthquake based on an assumed magnitude and a defined location. Shake maps identify the impacted areas and through different colours, the expected intensity. Earthquake scenarios can be used for planning purpose, to better understand the possible impact of a future but likely event, and to better plan and coordinate the emergency response. Communities conduct training exercises based on realistic earthquake situations. Schools plan and conduct student’s earthquake preparedness drill that include training exercises based on realistic earthquake situations similar to those that they are most likely to face.

This affects the world beyond, because without preparation many lives are at risk in the case of serious earthquakes. Earthquakes are one of the most expensive natural disasters. Earthquakes can, also, trigger other natural

It seems that the earthquake brought a trail of things that happen later. So we can learn for this that physical geography and human geography are connected and affects each other almost every time.

The Pacific Northwest is perceived to be a fairly safe place to live. This is true, but the Northwest is not untouchable. In fact, the Pacific Northwest is at risk for a megathrust earthquake of nine magnitudes. Japan was devastated with a nine magnitude earthquake in 2011; this level of natural disaster would be destructive anywhere in the world, but the idea it could happen right in our front yard makes the threat more real, personal. Earthquake preparedness is important because it saves lives. While building codes and funding to earthquake warning systems do make a difference, these methods are not practical when facing a megathrust earthquake. Earthquake preparedness is a combination of education and material preparedness. In awareness of this megathrust earthquake in the Pacific Northwest, earthquake preparedness should be a high priority.
