Over the years we have seen massive changes not only in our personal lives, but as well as in the workplace. These drastic changes are due to the rise in technology and how it will continue to affect the way the economy works when looking at unemployment rates, economic growth, and inflation. It is becoming quite clear that the future of the workplace will be less centralized, more flexible, more mobile, and with a stronger use of AI. These along with other trends will continue to grow with the increase in mobile technology, the never-ending race for top talent, and economic volatility. The future of the work place will not only grow and attempt, but it will continue to influence the way the economy functions. Technology is affecting the workforce all around the world. Joe McKendrick, an independent researcher, informs us of some different changes taking place through his article “5 Ways Digital Technology Is Changing Your Job.” McKendrick lets us know that technology could either bring forth a good change or a bad change within the workforce. Some of the changes mentioned within his article are the need for new skills, more occasions for entrepreneurial and innovation thinking, new job descriptions, get to know adjacent roles, etc (McKendrick). Technology is a driven tool around the world and could potentially change the workforce negatively or positively, whichever way you would like to look at it.
Finally, the last obstacle is technological. With renewable energy and green technology being new, the technology is simply not as efficient as it is required to be (New York Times, Arthur Ochs). Energy means nothing if there remains no long term way to store it, “Energy is most useful to us when it is concentrated, transportable and storable” (Powering Planet Earth, 41). So a larger capacity and longer lasting battery would be greatly beneficial to green technology as well as the outside that market due to the spillover effects.

Technology has contributed to many of the largest changes in recent history. One field impacted by the revolutionary power of technology is work. The workplace continues to incorporate technology at an exponential rate that has in no doubt contributed to an increase in both the quantity and quality of goods and services available. The benefits of technology are widely known; however, the negative implications of technology in the workforce are a little more unfamiliar. The progression of technology in the workplace is harmful to society because of its degenerative effects on the working class. The widespread use of technology foremost threatens the stability of work and the character of the common worker.
The impact of computer technology in the workplace has been enormous within the past decade, both positive and negative. Distant communication through the use of computers and mobile devices have overhauled the office setting completely. Email, social networking sites and the world of the Internet have opened a whole new avenue of communication. Technology has changed the entire workplace environment, the relationships, and how things get done.
After examining the shifts in Fordism, which encouraged the assembly line and rise to human work in industrial settings, and post-Fordism which encourages the office setting as the job standard, it becomes clear that types of work change as well. With not only the introduction of more advanced technology, but also smarter management, we saw traditional workspaces mentioned before become seemingly obsolete with time (Smith 2004). The conundrum in this lies in the fact that work became more and more innately fulfilling as time progressed, yet the issue now lies in people over working due to the introduction of technology. Mobile technology specifically is responsible for the societal norm of working mobility—even while not on the clock or in the office (Sarker 2013). Jobs that don’t stem from computer technology, meaning careers that requires the use of hand labor seems to be obsolete as well for someone with a college degree. One future endeavor of mine would be owning an urban farm. At this point I’m undecided whether it will be my main source of income or just a side exertion of energy. However it exemplifies the gradual decline in traditional desk jobs, which as one point a rarity as well. This career path also stems from a passion of mine that provides intrinsic value and potentially a nice source of income—said to be a growing phenomenon. One of the projections for the future of career life relationship is to the blurring of things considered non-work activities and work tasks (Chaudry 2011). Concepts that didn’t even exist or need to exist for that matter, such as clock time & task time, have become very normal—which is an indicator to this idea of growth. People are finding more and more intrinsic value in their work due to the fact their work is more pertinent to the things that they enjoy, or at least get some sort of warming satisfaction from.
