Impact Of Technology On Our World

Today, the term that many people know is social media. What people don’t know is when it was created and how it has evolved. Social media are websites and applications that allow many people across the world to create and share content or even get involved in social networking. According to the Article, “The History of Social Media: Social Networking Evolution” the birth of social media began in 1997 with a social media website called Six Degrees, then blogging and instant messaging were created thereafter. About one hundred million people became socially occupied on social media in the year 2000 (4). Many people were able to use the internet from their mobile device, computer, or other electronics. In 2004, Facebook was set for students only, but is now used by people all over the world (5). Today, social media has millions of platforms. Social media icons are seen everywhere and it’s unusual to see companies or stores without them (6). Social media has impacted many people since it was created, but some question if it has put either a negative or positive impact on society today.

Technology 's impact on society has changed in many areas of our lives. Technology has changed travel, you can now book your own plane ticket without going to a traveler’s agency, schooling you can take classes online, and have access to doctors and medicine without having to leave your home. I chose to write about the topic of banking. With the help of technology banks are able to reach out to more customers and provide better services to them. How has technology affected the world of banking? What choices do we have when it comes to our banking needs?

Around the globe each individual has a different definition of what a city is to them. Perhaps in more economically advanced countries, cities to the inhabitants’ maybe a mere central business district, a place to commute to for work, a place of entertainment and shopping. But what about those third world countries, is the city seen as a place, for income which can help support the family leading them to a better future and perhaps even immigration; for these citizens is the city a place for trade and markets or somewhere where you can only dream of going to. Where ever in the world, every individual will have a different definition and vision for the city and the surrounding areas.

Technology has evolved over years from a luxurious service to now basic need to the societies globally. Social media offer divergent services and use to billions of peoples, and millions of organizations, companies, and institutions. Social media popularity is ever growing due to its simplicity and easy access. It has brought about a complete overhaul in the way we view and think in our society. The impacts of social media in the society are many, it includes both positive and negative impacts. Writers of articles differ on the extent and types of impacts. Steven Krause differ with Scruton, Steven argues that social media has brought more advantages, while the later in his article ‘hiding behind the screen’ argues that social media has impacted society more negatively.

Indeed today we see that technology has impacted individuals and the community at large. I will talk about how people respond to the impact of the computer revolution.

When I was younger I remember being fascinated by all things technology. All those shiny new flip phones, video games, televisions and many other things that were almost too hard to attain because of their rarity and price. As years progressed, new sorts of technology were presented especially in the forms of cell phones and laptops. Little did people know that those portable devices would be the gateway to an online world that would unite many through several forms of social media. Although we might stand alone physically, we find comfort from others that exist amongst the midst of social networking. From all this many people today are witness to what technology and social media can do to a society. It has changed us drastically but not all the changes that technology has made have been particularly beneficial.

Since the invention of the computer and the smart phone, technology has been rapidly advancing, but the technological advancements have also caused humankind to evolve, but evolve into a society dependent on technology. Prior to technology, a person had to visit a library for information, unlike today where information can instantly be looked up. However, instead of discovering information to become more erudite, most people today use technology to look up useless information and subject themselves to the brainwashing effect of social media and advertisements. Technology has created a society dependent on technology for every mundane task in their lives like setting an alarm clock or creating reminders on a smartphone. The different public spheres in our culture: education, politics, and society, are affected by the constant pressure of technology and people are forced to conform to technology’s conventions, which strikingly resembles the dystopian world of Feed that M.T. Anderson created.

Andrew S. Grove, a well-known author and engineer, acknowledged, “In technology, whatever can be done, will be done” (“Technology Quotes and Sayings"). Technology is extremely beneficial and makes students’ lives easier all around the world. Some researchers have made an argument that technology causes students to think shorter; however, technology engages students and entices them to learn more efficiently with ease. Technology helps students expand their knowledge by intently keeping them engaged; quickly finding resources, connecting them with others, and giving them confidence in their work.

Is social media friend or foe to our growing complex society? Is it simply an added method of useful and useless communication? No matter which way online media is viewed it's here to stay. But does it define us, or limit our social etiquette and daily mannerisms? Over the past 10 years, social communication has flourished and thrived, tossing the idea of libraries and handwritten letters into the wind. Whilst continually evolving the way we perceive our surroundings. The divide between Generation X and Z is greater than before, but is it creating turmoil and sending us into outbursts of fight or flight; or enhancing our understanding of unity, peace, and technology altogether. Social media impacts society; whether through influence, news, culture, or even the wellbeing of our countries. Media is the greatest fuel for technological growth and evolution, but also to cyber warfare. 81% of Americans use social platforms in 2017, opposed 18% in 2007, this immense change happened faster than the use of cellphones, advanced farming methods in the 1800`s, and even discovering the cause of yellow fever. This growth is incredibly useful when it comes to sharing important information as well as comical anecdotes. Nonetheless, the question still remains, does social media impact society?

As the time goes on, technology becomes more popular and essential for most people’s daily life. Technology also becomes more dominant in every aspects on life such as working, studying, and even doing housework. It has radically changed the way human interacts with the world; for instance, people only communicated in person or through postal mails decades ago, and technology helped changing the traditional communication style into a faster one through texting and instant messaging. There are three perspectives on the impact of technology to humanity. First perspective is about its positive contributions to the society for the past few years. It has shorten many time-consuming tasks that made us have scratched our heads when thinking about them. Second perspective is about some cons of relying on technology too much such as becoming more lazy and lacking of motivation of doing things as well as disconnecting from reality and real people. The third perspective is about its uses for some people in developing countries. Technology does not help them much since these people do not have enough money to afford it. Therefore, its prohibited cost makes itself inaccessible in some countries. Technology actually has made life better but relying on its automatic nature too much can lead to being enslaved for it.

Technology has a tremendous impact in everyone’s lives and plays a role every day in your daily routine. This modern technology has advance so much in such a short amount of time that we don’t even notice the effects it plays in our society. Technology may be beneficial for many things for example smartphones, the majority of the population un the United States possess one, but does it really help us or can it harm us sometimes? In the past century, society has seen great leaps in technology that has connected people together more than ever, it has saved lives and continues to make day to day life simply easier to navigate. However, there are consequences to these advances. With people clamoring every year to get their hands on the newest iteration of their electronic devices, whether it be the latest iPhone, a more advanced computer or a high-definition television society must confront the problems it has created by its own desire for technology. As consumers purchase newer and better version of their old electronics the question of what happens to the old ones is raised. In 2005 alone, it was estimated that Americans disposed of two million tons of electronic products a year and that by 2010 that number would grow to four hundred million annually (Eilperin). This rate of disposal leaves behind piles of unwanted electronic devices and while many of these devices end up in junk drawers there are many more that end up in landfills where their toxic metal innards contaminate drinking water and soil. Or, devices are left to go to seed in some lonely warehouse long since abandoned by its own and there is always the possibility of devices being exported to poor countries where recycling regulations are lacks. The scope of the problem is not small as it is estimated that the hazard created by electronic waste threatens over one hundred million lives worldwide (Wood).

New technology has dramatically changed over the years and has become well integrated with humans and their everyday lives. Originally in the 1900s technology was created and used to solve specific problems throughout life. Since the 1900s era, technology has rapidly increased across the nation investing new ways to communicate, new ways for transportation and educational methods. Although there are numerous beneficial effects that technology has exposed to society across the globe.
