The term immigration is an international movement of people into a destination country of which they are natives or where they do not process citizenship in order to settle or reside there, especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens. However, as many as over million and millions of people in the world have migrated to other countries as a result of war, poverty or just the dream of a better life. Obviously, the number of immigrants has increased, so has controversy about immigration policies. “What they want is essentially identical to work hard and achieve happiness, safety, and security for themselves and their families. A founding premise of America is that this is a place for immigrants to come and start over” (Heller, Becca). As being an immigrant myself there is a lot I didn’t have to experience because when I came to the United States my legal status was with a permanent residency and in the years, came I was able to become a US citizen. Especially, with everything that has been going on the news regarding immigration from the Trump administration to whom their focus is on deportations and cancel many benefits for non-working families and children. A good example of that is the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), this is a program that has helped hundred and thousands of young people who were brought to the country illegally as children to allow them to stay the same as TPS (Temporary Protected Status) which was created for certain individual’s due to the conditions of their country that had prevented the country’s nationals from returning safely or unable to handle their return accordingly.
During recent years, the immigration topic has been the forefront to all political debates. In addition, research studies showed by Patrick Oakford and Robert Lynch recommend, “Legal status and a road to citizenship for the unauthorized will bring about significant economic gains in terms of growth, earnings, tax, revenues, and jobs” (Oakford, P and Lynch, R 2013). On the other hands, for the past decade, aggressive deportation strategies have resulted in the removal and return of more than 3 million immigrants.
