Frame a research question/state a hypothesis as to what you will be looking to demonstrate in your work.

Select one (1) project from your working or educational environment that you would use the hypothesis test technique. Next, propose the hypothesis structure (e.g., the null hypothesis, data collection process, confidence interval, test statistics, reject or not reject the decision, etc.) for the business process of the selected project. Provide a rationale for your response.

For the following research questions, create one null hypothesis, one directional research hypothesis, and one non-directional research hypothesis.

In an experimental research, the use of a research question answers the thesis statement that enables one to research about a problem (Yin, 2013). From the experiment, the research question can be clearly stated as “which vaccine is more effective for preventing getting the flu”. In this case, the problem being researched about is the flu the possible solutions to this problem which the use of vaccines is being analyzed. The null hypothesis of this experiment states that there is no effective vaccine for preventing getting the flu while the alternative hypothesis states that there is an effective vaccine for preventing getting the flu.

A hypothesis is an explanation that can be tested based on observation. A statistical hypothesis is testable explanation based on observation and different variables. A null hypothesis explains what the results of the experiment will be if the original hypothesis is wrong. An alternate hypothesis is the opposite result if there is or isn’t a null hypothesis. Semmelweis hypothesized that bacteria/virus filled extremities resulted in higher death rates.

A research hypothesis explains there is correlation between two or more variables. A null hypothesis is a classification of hypotheses that states there is no connection between the independent and dependent variables. Whereas the research question is an analysis statement detailing the variables and population of the specified research study (Adams, 2015). An example of a null hypothesis for this study would state music would have no effect on postoperative pain in a particular patient population during a defined time frame. However the fourth question pertained to the impact of music on the amount of opioids taken from the beginning of the intervention until six hours later (Allred et al., 2010). When discussing the research question and hypothesis, one might interrelate these two concepts when in fact these terms differ from one another. The research question and hypothesis are extremely important to conduct any type of research study. The research question presents the idea that is to be examined in the study and is the foundation of the research study. Where, hypothesis attempts to answer the research question. The hypothesis is a prediction of what the study will find (Wood & Haber, 2014). The research question being studied in this quantitative study is “ Does tobacco cessation program has an impact on veterans with substance use disorder (SUDs) in reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs?” The researcher is trying to evaluate the impact of the tobacco cessation program on veterans seeking treatment with the substance abuse disorder (SUDs). The hypothesis being studied is “The tobacco cessation program will have a positive impact on veterans with SUDs in reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs”. According to the article, the tobacco cessation program does have a positive impact on veterans with SUDs. At 1-month follow-up, 88 participants out of 97 reported abstinence from alcohol, 89 reported abstinence from other drugs and 14 reported abstinence from tobacco (Vest, Kane, DeMarce, Barbero, Harmon, Hawley, & Lehmann, 2014).
