For the summer of 2015, I enrolled as a student in University of Maryland University College (UMUC) to start the journey of earning a bachelor's degree in Cyber Security. For the starting course requirements, Writing 101s was one of the three classes I had picked to begin with. When I first started off in this course, I considered my writing skills poor, with unorganized paragraphing and horrible grammar skills. Now, I am able to write great with more organized essays, proper sentence structures, and also gained researching skills for future research projects or assignments. This course has dramatically increased my confidence in writing and I feel that I am able to write at college level and not middle or high school.
First, to work on my paragraph organization skills, I started off using two methods, which was brainstorming and webbing. Later on, I found that free-writing along the way also helped me brainstorm ideas to put into my writing. These strategies were from Writing for Success in Chapter 1. It helped me learn to keep my paragraphs in correct sequence and not scrambled in the essays. Which before, it caused

Looking for resources for essays and assignments taught me the necessary skills to find scholarly journals and articles to use as references. Using the UMUC library taught me how to use the boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to find precise information on what my topic was about. In the beginning, I did not know how to research effectively in the library. There were different databases that provided me with the information I needed for research papers, using the advanced search options. The library tutorial discussions in class were also a great help in teaching me with the starting steps. With the steps, it provided me with the knowledge of how to use a library to its full potential. I now have the proper skills and tools to research for future assignments in other courses or classes that I
Previous experiences as a staff member: Sadly, I have never had the opportunity to be on a
I graduated high school back in 1994. I was engaged to be married in just two years, and even though I joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard right after graduation it was only one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. So I needed a full-time job. A friend of the family knew a guy who was opening a second store, and was going to need a store manager. I took the job and got started. What I didn’t know was the guy I was just hired to work for was a little confused as to what he wanted. I hung onto the job for a little over a year hoping it would turn around but, no dice.
During my co-op work placement, I was employed at Evichat Inc. in the position of Full Stack Developer. The total size of the company is 5 people. The Software Development team where I worked with was relatively small compared to other companies as it is an early stage startup. Throughout the work placement, I was worked on projects that involved integrating with third parties including Relativity and Clio, improving web app security with role based authentication and improving site SEO.
Daniel emphasized how strict the entertainment departments budget were that I caused them to go over budget by not taking breaks and that from there on out I would be getting scheduled 28 hours a week. David changed my time sheet and added breaks on days that I did not take breaks. Daniel also stated that by the time I had replied to Davids missed time punch text that the time sheet was already sent in. I asked Daniel how this could be corrected and he told me he would have to check with HR but that I could just not clock out for 3 days. Daniel also asked me I meant by "I was doing lead work". I replied by telling him I lead my staff, performed closing lead duties; such as End of Day report, contacting guest services, reporting directly to
In 2011 I decided upon a career change away from a fast paced sales environment and towards my ambition of becoming a teacher. Since leaving school in 1997 I worked for a small family run architectural hardware company. In my final role with the company my main duties included travelling the country giving seminars to architects and building contractors. It was during the development and delivery of these seminars that I realised I had a passion for teaching. The development of my industry based presentations was thorough and took into account the differing abilities and background of my audience. With constantly shifting standards and regulations, Power Point presentations to create for each session and handouts for the individuals in attendance
Students had previously covered the topic of developing fluency in multiplication by 2-digit numbers. After that topic students moved on to cover number sense, dividing by 1-digit divisors using mental math to prepare them for the following topic of my learning segment. The topic of my learning segment consists of developing fluency, dividing by 1-digit divisors. I designed my lesson as a three-day unit focusing on long division by modeling division with place-value blocks, dividing 2-digit by 1-digit numbers, and dividing 3-digit by 1-digit numbers. Students were introduced to division prior to my learning segment but the struggled to understand and comprehend division because students were only introduced to the division algorithm and were not provided with a mnemonic to help them recall the steps. Students also weren’t introduced to division with manipulatives or drawings. Therefore, I
In the year 2013, I started being my dad’s personal assistant for his own company. This has provided me with leadership skills. It has also helped me solved disputes between the owner and the clients. I listen to what the clients want and I try to help the owner and them come to an agreement about what has to be done. Especially doing everything in a good manner so the client is sacrifice with what they are getting. It is good to help solve the disputes that way the client knows that what they are getting is good quality material. Since he does not speak very fluent english I go with him to meet the clients whenever they ask for a translator. The first couple of times I went with him were very difficult for me because I was a very shy person.

I have not had very much experience as an employee during my youth. My first time doing real world work was the day that I volunteered at my father’s office at the New York City Department of the Aging for two hours. It was apparently a day off from work because no one other than him, myself, and his supervisor were there, but I helped my father organize and file some papers. After my brief stint as a volunteer, my first, and only, actual job I was paid for was over this summer at the Eileen Abraham Insurance Agency. I got the job through a program called the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). This program helped young adults, like myself, get summer jobs around the city in various different fields. I specifically chose the Eileen
Once again, this week’s reading is very timely and coincides with current work situations. This week, it has become more apparent that the culture of where I work conflicts with my personal values. Over two years ago, I moved to the Boston area for this job and at the time I realized that there were geographical and historical differences than from previous places I had lived. I also expected social and economic differences. Being the newcomer, to the work situation and environment, there was the need for me to learn about the governmental rules and processes for how decisions are made. In addition, after a few times of being corrected, I learned to call Massachusetts a Commonwealth, not a State. For a time, I embraced the cultural differences and contributed any unease to my unfamiliarity with the area. Then, I started to notice some current organizational values that contrast with my beliefs. For instance, the organization I
I learned most from this presentation and project is that there would be a huge market for UBERLIVE. What I learned most from this course that to be a good sales person you must be adaptable. No two people are the same which makes it imperative that the strategy is chosen that meets the needs of the consumer you are selling to. I would discuss the course material more in depth with my team. Having more in-depth conversations helps you to understand team member’s perspective on the course material. It also showcases the strengths of each member which is useful when collaborating. My suggestions for the project is to choose a project that can be applied to the course material and utilizes the strengths of the team
The reason that I enrolled into the introduction to writing course, or WRTG 101, is because it is required in order to receive my degree. I actually tried to avoid this course by completing the college composition exam through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP); unfortunately, the University of Maryland University College’s (UMUC) credit by examination guidelines still require that students take WRTG 101, even if they get a qualifying score(“College Level Examination Program”, 2016). My writing skills were good enough to complete the exam with a qualifying score, so I definitely considered myself pretty good at writing. Before taking WRTG 101, my writing skills were decent, but now I feel more capable of applying the writing process,
Thing 1: One of my good or bad traits is reflection; and one of your questions stuck with me as to how bonus or rolex would even come up in the interview with the team. As I reviewed my personal recap, these two things as well as several others were in response to the question by Jill: “Can you give us examples where you have received recognition, and where you have given recognition?” I again, only shared as a means of affirmation in organizational contribution, there is less monetary value to the things than the gesture they represent. I gave additional examples of inclusion, certificates of appreciation, etc. as part of the answer.
I feel that I have changed tremendously this semester. This class has allowed me to understand that I cannot change individuals; however, I can provide them with adequate resources to allow them to enhance their lives, if that is the choice they desire to make.
