The American Revolution changed the political and social aspects of the United States. After the war ended many things changed in the states. From the political stand point women still had power but gained a few rights after the war and since the states where now free from British rule they could now create their own form of central government and elected a leader. On the social and economical side the belief of egalitarianism was widely being accepted, and mercantilism ended so the colonies were no longer forced from imported and export goods to England. With British rule out of power the newly united states could create their own form of central government. American women remained both politically and economically inferior. Nevertheless in embracing the ideals and responsibilities of a republican government, Americans were adopting a powerful, new ideology, and their experiment in statecraft became a model for many other countries. From the social viewpoint the war changed the lives and rights of women all across the United States. Many of the husbands left to fight in the Revolutionary war leaving countless women in charge of farms and businesses, roles which they were not accustomed to. Although the war did little to change women’s rights, in some states it did become possible for women to divorce and in new jersey women even obtained the right to vote which was way out of the ordinary in that time. Before the war both men and women viewed the wife as an obedient and serving spouse that raised the children and took care of the house. But the revolution encouraged people of both genders to reconsider the contribution of women to the family and society. The Revolution had many affected more than just the political and social aspects of American life; it also impacted its economy. After being tied to the British navy for over a century the American trade was on its own. Even though the Revolution disrupted the traditional trading system,
The American Revolution transformed the colonies in numerous ways. The Revolution caused a decline in paid domestic services. Wage workers became indentured servants and were able to perform their required labor. Servants and apprentices were able to escape from their masters. By 1800, indentured servitude had vanished from the nation. The Revolution was able to create a separation between slavery and freedom.
The American Revolution was revolutionary by definition because it was successful in bringing about political, economic, and social reform. The colonies fought to be free of the British monarchy and replace it with self-government and with representatives elected by the citizens to govern to the will of the people. This was a radical change in the political stage where the people were ruled by a distant king that had no interest in the welfare of the colonies beyond its enrichment to the crown. The colonies gained an economic benefit from their detachment from England as well. All of the revenue created by the colonies was now their own. The trade restrictions created by the idea of mercantilism were no longer in place. All of the raw materials and natural resources that the colonies supplied England with such as indigo, cotton, tobacco, and rice were now owned by the colonies solely. The new political structure also brought about major changes to the social norms. People of all classes had a role in their own government. The differences between the social classes became a little less prominent since all had a say in the government. The colonies’ revolt from England politicized women and African Americans and even though the major changes for these classes came later in history it is important to recognize that the Revolution was the beginning of these changes. The new government, through the powerful new constitution, opened the door for individual roles to continue
Some other political impacts war that obviously colonists had to form their own government which required the formation of the First Continental Congress and the Second Continental Congress there was membership meetings two the Continental Congress remove the monarchy the Continental Congress drafted the Declaration of Independence the Continental Congress remove the Intolerable Acts and completely removed England AZ it’s political role. Societally the effects of the American Revolution were strong as I guess one of the classes of people no longer were there monarchy rule then Elite Class followed by working class and then for there was equal influence by each individual this included women to a certain extent they needed strong mothers influence children. The Republican mothers were born. Republican Motherhood was not all the influence it was expected to be the idea didn’t filtered down it’s stuck closer to the wealthy individuals what came from that were books written for women by women and so the expansion of Education of women that wasn’t there before. Another social class that was affected greatly by the American Revolution not in a positive way was the slaves the slaves would have been freed as Britain had abolished slavery
The American Revolution signified a period that was rich in debates about the nature of the government as well as the rights of citizens. It generated changes in the principles, opinions, and
The American Revolution changed and was the cause of many things, it majorly affected social, political, and economical aspects. Politically the American Revolution
Possibly one of the biggest revolutions during this time was the changes of government in the colonies. The colonies, under British rule, had lived under a Parliamentary Monarchy in which a King and legislative body known as parliament ruled equally. Parliament was in charge of legislating the British Empire while the King was in charge of enforcing laws of the Empire. Much like the United States’ government today these two bodies were acting as an Executive and legislative branch. The issue for colonists was that Parliaments being 3,000 miles away meant that they did not truly understand the dynamics of the colonies and could not possibly make sensible laws for the colonists. After the war Americans would have to figure out what type of government
History remembers The American Revolution as the war that freed America from the control of Great Britain. This was an important turn of events during that time because the British empire was considered one of the strongest empires. In addition, Great Britain colonized America. So for a new nation as small as they were to defeat one of the strongest empires shocked the world. The American Revolution was revolutionary for the colonists because it gave them freedom. The effect of the war was revolutionary to major groups as well. One group that it was revolutionary for were women. Women played a huge role from the start of colonization to even after the war was won. The war not only freed the colonists from the tyranny of Britain, but it
The American Revolution was very significant in the lives of all involved. This was a long war in American history lasting six years. “The war divided the colonists between Loyalists, rebels, and those who were indifferent to either side” (Schultz, 2009, pg. 112). Additionally, families were affected, women were laden with many more responsibilities, and slaves anticipated what the future held for them (Schultz, 2009).
Many things during the American Revolution changed in the process. For an example the economy. Most of the economy in the Industrial Revolution is based on the manufacturing part. Also the inventions changed the life before and after The Industrial Revolution. They gave jobs to people and took away some jobs from people. Lastly the communication during and after the Revolution changed too. In the Industrial Revolution the inventions, economy and the process of communication changed throughout the years of the Industrial Revolution.
The American Revolution was a political revolution that separated England’s American Colonies from Great Britain and led to the creation of the United States of America. The American Revolution not only brought the beginning of a new country, but it also impacted many different areas of society. The independence of the colonies brought new thoughts and ideas to many people. There were influences on the topics of not just nationalism and American politics, but also on slavery, Native Americans, women and religious minorities. The American Revolution reflected principles that emphasized personal liberty and freedom from tyranny among other ideals.
The American Revolution was a shift in political thought and ideals that was so radically different from the dominant paradigm that it required a parallel social shift in order to maintain the political structure. Colonial family structure needed to be controlled by legal means to ensure survival, and so too was this new direction going to need to be controlled from within the family, just with different goals. Among these myriad changes was a transformation of the roles that women performed, specifically their roles as wives and daughters. Differences in family life and the ideals of the Republic had immense effect on the lives that women were living from the economic and maternal hardships of the colonial period to a more modern looking
In the time directly following the American Revolution, life for American people was changed irrevocably. With the fear of tyranny still hanging over the colonists heads, a new governmental system was formed that allowed for a changed way of life unseen to the world up until this point. The American Revolution offered a multitude of fundamental changes to the political, social, and economic lifestyles of Americans.
The American Revolution was more of a war for independence than an actual revolution. No centuries-old social orders were toppled like in the French Revolution. The catalyst behind the American Revolution was the effect that certain English acts of legislation were having on the American elite. For example, contrary to popular thought, the Tea Act actually lowered the price of legitimately imported British tea which as a result became more popular than smuggled tea. The Stamp Act also affected the American elite and had a negligible effect on the rest of Americans.
In history there are countless important events that impacted the world. However, the American Revolutionary War had the greatest impact to the modern world. During the late 1700s, building tensions between the British monarchy and the thirteen American colonies caused an outbreak of war for America’s independence. The United States becoming an independent nation would spark change throughout the world for decades. Some of the most prominent effects that occurred were an age of revolution that ended monarchies in the western world, and new practices by the government and the people.
The American Revolution marked a highly significant time period throughout history. This time period consisted of a variety of changes that would forever change the United States of America. The American Revolution brought upon profound social, economic, cultural, political, military, and religious changes. These were not the only changes that the American Revolution encountered. Many technological and industrial revolutions would later transform the modes of production, which would mark the transition from a rural to an urban economy (Mays 231). This would later stimulate the standard of living. This period consisted of many changes that would later bring upon changes within gender roles in societies, races, national relations, and many more movements (Savas and Dameran 108). Military revolutions brought upon change within the warfare that would later lead to the development of new technology (Greene and Pole 310). Many progressive movements were developed within the American Revolution, especially since it was a time where slavery was still considered popular among many states (Mays 253). From 1765 up until 1783, the American Colonies, went through a radical transformation into an independent nation in which they fought for, after many years of being controlled by the English government (Greene and Pole 251). The outcome of the American Revolution not only affected the colonies, economically, but as well as culturally, politically, and would bring upon many changes that
