In All Summer In A Day Ray bradbury uses symbolism and metaphors to describe what is happening in the short story. So an example is when he used a metaphor to describe how the sun had looked. Another example was when Bradbury used symbolism to describe the sun and how it impacted the kids. One example of a metaphor that Bradbury used was ¨Sun is like a lemon¨ and so I be going into detail on how he used symbolism and metaphors, throughout the book to show what happening. So an example of a metaphor that Ray Bradbury used was the example I used in the topic sentence. ¨Sun is like a lemon¨ and in my opinion I think that means how the shape of a sun is round, and there both yellow and how they are both bright. So another example was of a metaphor that Ray Bradbury put in his short story was. ¨The sun is like a flower that just blooms for two hours¨. What I think Ray Bradbury means by that is how they both resemble a flower because how colorful, shiny and beautiful it is. The third metaphor that Ray Bradbury had used was ¨The water came down in a gush of water¨. I think Bradbury had used this metaphor because of the water that was coming down. What I think he meant by that was the water was coming down fast, and hard and had big droplets of water. …show more content…
An example of personification was when Bradbury said ¨They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble¨ I probably means that they were scared. Since he used the word tremble in the sentence which basically means scared since they had forgot Margot in the closet. The second example was when he said ¨The door slid back and the small of silence waiting as she came out¨. What I think he means by that is how they locked Margot in the closet and they were scared about what she would do next like yell at him so they were in
Ray Bradbury’s story “All Summer in a Day” starts out on a rainy day on the planet Venus. Although it wasn’t just that day that was rainy, it’s been rainy every day for seven years. As there was a time long ago when the sun casted on this rainy planet, the children on Venus could not remember. Except for one, Margot a young girl that had just arrived from Earth four years ago. She remembers the warmth and brightness of the sun while she lived in Ohio with her family. At her new school on Venus, Margot shares her memories of the sun with her classmates. Her classmates don’t remember the sun causing them to get jealous and them to hurt Margot later in the story. This suggests that when people can’t get over their
In the short story All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury uses symbolism to show the reader the children’s emotions. The sun they always are talking about symbolizes happiness. The only time the children are really happy is when the sun comes out. It could be argued that there is good examples of description in this story. But I feel the symbolism is more prominent. The constant storms on venus show the sadness and anger the students feel. The storms are raging right up until the sun comes out. Symbolism is shown throughout All Summer in a Day.

The short story all summer in a day by Ray Bradbury is about the power of desire and how it can lead to doing something that people tend to regret. First, readers will learn why the theme is true by reading about when the children locked Margot into a closet. Next, there will be more evidence supporting the theme. Finally, the third and fourth paragraphs will be acknowledging other people’s themes and making arguments towards them.
In “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury and “Examination Day” by Henry Slesar, many similarities and differences emerge throughout the stories. “Examination Day” is about a 12-year-old boy who has to take a test by the government only a few weeks after his birthday. The boy's name is Dickie and he passes the test by the government, and as a result they exterminate him. This portrays the dim mood of Bradbury’s story. In “All Summer in a Day” a character living on Venus, named Margot, is different than the people around her. She is different because she remembers the sun, unlike the other characters living on Venus. Furthermore, there are similarities between the settings, the the, and the way the authors express their writing in “All Summer in a Day” and “Examination Day”.
Visualize living on a planet and the climate is always rain. Then the sun comes out but only for 2 hours. The short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury is science fiction story about a classroom of nine-year-olds that live underground on Venus. Margot stands apart from the children because she has memories of the sun from when she was on Earth. She has lived on this planet for some time and the memory of the sun causes Margot to grieve the loss of the sun on Venus. The lack of education the children of Venus cause them to be jealous of Margot’s experiences. This is shown when they harassment Margot, are jealous of her knowledge of the sun and cause her depression.
How do people become ignorant? May it be from the surroundings one grows up in or a societal stigma they’ve learned from one’s years in the world? Or maybe, from the sheer jealousy one has towards another? This is case in the short story “All Summer In A Day” by Ray Bradbury. The story entails a young girl by the age of 9 who has relocated to the planet of Venus. She’s like most children, but only she out of all her classmates has a memory of the yellow fiery ball of gas, the sun, that most of the children are envious of. This causes them to treat Margot very poorly leading to ignorance throughout them. The ignorance of the children and the fact that they know of her different experiences cause them to treat Margot with very immoral
Imagine living on a planet with endless rain. In the short story “All Summer In A Day”, The main character Margot, suffers from depression since she moved to Venus five years ago. Also, the children are jealous of Margot because she has a memory of the sun so they harass and bully her. The children on Venus treat Margot unfairly because of her differences. This is shown when they lock her in the closet, when they harass her and when they accuse her of lying about knowing what the sun looks like.
2,555 days. 2,554 of those you’re under a dark constant cloud of rain, and the world seems to follow along with the grayness of the sky. But once, out of those 2,555 days, a bright light shines upon the horizon. For that day, the world seems to be alive again. But for Margot, the main character in Ray Bradbury’s All Summer In a Day, that opportunity was stripped away from her. In this story, the setting is on the planet Venus, when humans from Earth decided to set up civilization and move to the planet. The problem on Venus, though, is that it rains straight for seven years, Out of those seven years, the Sun comes out for only one day. Margot came to Venus only five years ago, so she remembers the Sun in all its glory. The other children on
“They thought they remembered the warmness, like a blushing in the face, in the body, in their arms and legs and trembling hands. But then they always awoke to the tatting drum,” (Bradbury, 1954). They would imagine the warmth of the sun, but only one child would remember and the others would forget once again. In the short story, “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, it describes Venus where it is constantly raining and the sun never comes out leaving the planet with small amounts of of light. Margot, a young 9 year old girl lives on Venus with the small colony of scientists and their children. The other children were born on Venus and could not remember the sun, but Margot was not born there. She still has memories of the sun when she was on Earth, making her stand apart from the other children. As the other children recognized her differences, jealousy manifested within them. As the children are mindful of her experiences they would harass her and she would become depressed in her isolation. This is shown when the children deny her beliefs of the sun, push her around like she’s nothing, and lock her in a closet when she has one chance to see the sun in 5 years.
“I think the sun is a flower. That blooms for just one hour…” (Bradbury, 1954). In “All Summer in a Day”, by Ray Bradbury, humans have colonized Venus. But life is difficult. Forced to live underground by the endless thunderstorms, the rocket men and women only get to see the sun once every seven years. Among them is a young nine year-old girl named Margot. Having lived on Earth, unlike the other children, she remembers the sun and how it felt. However, she behaves like an outcast, and rumors of her being taken back to Earth fly through the underground civilization. In the story, the other students are cruel to her because of her memory of the sun. The civilians on Venus act harshly to Margot, and together their actions create an immeasurable amount of hatred for her. Bradbury’s wide variety of craft portrays this quite well. Through accusations, lack of authority, and craft the author uses, Margot undergoes a very hurtful experience during her time on Venus.
