How did the Versailles Treaty Help cause World War ll? Around 17 million soldiers and civilians are dead, a defeat against Germany, and all that was gained was a treaty. The Versailles Treaty was created to set the terms of the peace between nations, and was signed on June 28, 1919. From August 1914 to November 1918 Germany and Austria-Hungary pitted against France, England, Russia and eventually the United States went to war, also known as the Great war, known as World War I. (Hook) But did the Versailles Treaty help cause World War II? At the conference of the treaty Germany was given no voice, but Georges Clemenceau the Prime Minister of France didn’t agree that the treat would guarantee independence for the national groups in Eastern Europe and the creation of the League of Nations. France had suffered terribly in the war and wanted Germany to pay.(B. Essay) The Treaty of Versaille had punished Germany too heavily in four way: in land, in gold, in resources and in reduced military strength. The Treaty of Versailles contributed to WWII by severely weakening Germany economically through territorial losses. Before the war Germany was using 139,000,000 tons of coal from their land. Once their industrial land was given away, Germany only had access to about 78,000,000 tons of coal per year. They lost 60,800,000 tons of coal from the lost areas. Germany coal production was reduced by 40%. Germany had lost Alsace and Lorraine, and was returned back to France. The Treaty required Germany to permanently give up its colonies. German colonies included all or part of the modern nations of Tanzania, Rwanda, Cameroon, Namibia, and Botswana, as well well as Pacific territories such as Samoa and the Marshall Islands. The British took over most of Germany’s overseas colonies. (Doc. A) With all this loss of land how is Germany supposed to pay back all the payments. “...the restoration of the frontiers of 1914 could be achieved only by blood. Only childish and naive minds can lull themselves in the idea that they can bring about a correction of Versailles by wheedling and begging, No nation can remove this hand from tits throat except by the sword.” -Adolf Hitler. Hitler had already thought about war before he had came
Though the treaty of versailles created peace and harmony in many nations after the first world war it left Germany to be humiliated and dishonored and to be worthless as a result Germany revolted, plunging the world into a second world war.
First, the treaty of Versailles made Germany lose their territory and did not give it back. In Document A, the picture shows us how the treaty took Alsace and Lorraine away. Losing this territory Germany lost 40% of its most critical resource, coal. The loss of the Polish Corridor and Danzig were difficult for Germans because they were a major resource for Germany. If they had taken their land maybe the suggestion that Adolf Hitler made to the Germans about starting a war to fight back to gain control would not have happened.
In 1914, Germany and Austria-Hungary allied against France, Britain, USA and Italy in World War 1. The war resulted in resentment towards the Germans. Woodrow Wilson, president of the United States, established a treaty that would bring everlasting peace. For the Germans however, the treaty served as a punishment, as they were required to accept the responsibility for causing all of the damage. Germany was angered by the treaty as they would have to pay for reparations and take responsibility for everything. Territorial losses, militarism, economic reparations and blame were all causes of World War II.
There are many things that the Treaty of Versailles help cause World War II. Economic losses, territory loss, overpowered by size, reparation and war guilt were causes that led to World War II. The Treaty of Versailles brought World War I to an end but began World War II.
World war two was a very deadly and gory war, one of America’s most deadly in fact. Around 80 million soldiers, civilians, and Jewish people were killed. The Versailles treaty produced German anger and humiliation sowing the seeds for world war two. Adolf Hitler was an evil man and many of the non-believers in Hitler, commanded malediction on him. Billions of soldiers died, thousands of families were affected. Versailles Treaty did nothing more than throw countries onto a trapdoor of chaos, battle, unsolved arguments.
Document A discusses this by showing a map of what the geography of Germany had been after the Versailles Treaty terms, with Alsace and Lorraine, their main production of coal, now in possession of France. To put it another way, the process of Germany being stripped of some its land through the Versailles Treaty’s terms had provided an opportunity for the Germans to initiate war in order to regain their land and resources back, along with power. However, this is not the only instance of this, another document validates that the Versailles Treaty had helped cause WWII through its unjust terms. That document would be the famous book created by Adolf Hitler himself, “Mein Kampf”. In this segment of the book, it can be paraphrased that Hitler feels Germany is naive for believing that the Versailles Treaty will solve the conflicts between all of Europe, instead he recommends that Germany goes to war in order to destroy the unjust terms that oppress them because the restoration of Germany can only be achieved through blood. In other words, Hitler is saying that Germany needs to fight in order to rid themselves of the restrictions imposed by the Versailles Treaty because any peaceful means are flawed. Consequently, it can be inferred that because of the Versailles Treaty, it allowed Hitler to persuade Germany to fight to made the restrictions of the Versailles Treaty void all the more easy and because of this Germany becomes more of a threat thus making the nations ally and fight creating
The Treaty of Versailles is a treaty made to decide, “how Germany was to be made to pay for the damage world war one had caused (World War Two).” This lead to World War Two because Germany was forced to give up many things, which made them vulnerable. This caused Germany to vote for Hitler because he was a very good persuasive speaker. In his speech, “Hitler offered the Germans what they needed most, encouragement (The History Place - Rise of Hitler: Germans Elect Nazis).” It also does not help that, “Germany was in the grip of the Great Depression (The History Place - Rise of Hitler: Germans Elect Nazis).” They needed the encouragement at the time, which caused the vote for
English representative John Maynard Keynes argued that in doing this to Germany, it would lead to pure bitterness and potential future conflicts. Eventually, time proved Maynard right. So how did the Versailles Treaty help cause World War II? It all erupted due to unjust, limitations, struggle for economic and political power and pride.
The Treaty of Versailles was penned during the Paris Peace Conference, mainly to decide upon Germany’s consequences for beginning World War One. When Germany signed the treaty, it lost a tenth of its land to surrounding countries. Not only did they lose part of their country, but they also lost their overseas territories, including Chinese ports, Pacific Islands, and African colonies. One of the actual causes of the war was that Germany wanted ‘a place in the sun’, and requested
After years of extreme devastation and gruesome bloodshed, World War I concluded on November 11th, 1918 as the Allied Powers claimed victory and the Axis Powers accepted defeat. In order to promote peace, finalize the outcome and prevent another large scale war, the victorious Allied Powers created a treaty, the Treaty of Versailles. Under the terms and conditions of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany and its allies were harshly sanctioned. Germany, viewed by the Allied Powers as the primary inciter of World War I, received the worst repercussions and was forced to single-handedly bear the financial burden of paying for the entire war. Leaving Germany, an already depleted country, accountable for all war reparations sent them into deep depression and great desperation. Ultimately, Germany’s deplorable state led the nation to turn to the infamous radical leader, Adolf Hitler, who provoked World War II.
Germany took 100% guilt and blame for World War I, they lost some of their best land, French troops were to be maintained inside of Germany, the size of their military was reduced a lot and Germany got into many financial issues. Hitler opposed the treaty and went against what the treaty said. He re-armed Germany with more soldiers than they were allowed to have. The treaty was not respected very well. The Treaty of Versailles made Hitler feel the need to restore the status of Germany and this ended in him invading many countries. These countries obviously did not respond well and in the long run the treaty influenced World War II. The treaty was supposed to resolve the issues of war and it did but then it resulted in influencing more problems.
The main goal of the Treaty of Versailles was to keep peace. Georges Clemenceau from France was part of the Big 3 and he utterly despised Germany. He believed that if Germany was weakened and broken down into little pieces they could never start another war or threaten France again. He mainly wanted Germany to be severely punished and they were. A large section of the Treaty dealt with the punishment of Germany because many others believed in the thinking of Clemenceau. Another part of the Treaty dealt with the League of Nations. The League was set to enforce the Treaty along with improving the world. The League had achieved many of its goals, but by the 1930 's it wasn 't
What better way to follow-up “the war to end all wars” then with what would become the deadliest war in history, thus far? Whether or not war, in general, is inevitable is a solid question but whether World War II could have been stopped takes the cake. The Treaty of Versailles was signed at the close of the first world war and dictated the terms of Germany 's punishment. It reclaimed land for Poland, France, and Austria as well as restricted Germany 's military to 100,000 men, six battleships and no air force among other articles. Between these restrictions and Hitler’s racial ideology gaining a following, did the world really expect Germany to stay silent forever?
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that was made by the allies against Germany to make Germany pay for their “wrong doings”. Although it ended the Great War, it also led to World War 2 because the treaty caused Germany to give up land, pay large reparations and limited their military. This had angered Germany and had caused them to want to take back the land they lost, but after paying large reparations, it made Germany extremely poor, it had cost citizens a fortune just to buy a loaf of bread. Hitler then came in and said that he could change Germany, and make Germany a great country again. Everyone believed him and voted for him at the election.
There are many people that would gladly argue about what had started WW2. I believe that the Treaty of Versailles is the main cause for many different reasons such as Germany’s depression and that they didn’t really enforce the treaty. The treaty took place in 1919 after WW1, It was a treaty that caused the Germans to lose their army and the Rhineland which allowed the Nazi’s to reach power.
