A new scandalous mastermind known only as "The Joker" has arrived and intends to take Gotham out from Harvey Dent's iron fist. The Joker junctures an exquisitely planned bank robbery and robs the Gotham mob blind. He uses this money to stage a series of abominable and strategic attacks against the city and its people. Each one carefully planned and aimed at Dent and Batman while causing the rest of the city to enter panic mode. The Joker has no rules, but Batman has …show more content…
From the beginning it is overt that everyone is knowledgeable of his presence and distinguishes who he is, the citizens of Gotham glory him with applauses and cheers when ever he talks or simply walks in the room. When the Joker threatens to kill the people of Gotham if Batman doesn’t turn himself in and reveals his identity, Dent knows the the city needs Batman because Dent can only do so much such that he stands up to the citizens and tells them he is Batman. He looks up to Batman and if Batman were to turn himself in, Dent would have to do all protecting he knows he can’t do. Dent is powerful during the day when he has police, government officials, and the support of the people by his side but when he goes to bed he knows Gotham is at stake for ludicrous, his corrupt leadership is shown because he can’t be there to protect the people 24/7. He is considered the “ White Night” who comes along to save Gotham in front of the people during the day but the anarchy that occurs overnight is left to Batman, the “ Dark
Another common thing that the Joker does is that he attempts to conceal the true reasons for his actions. In other words, the Joker uses defense mechanisms to distance himself from reality as a means to protect himself from the horrid things he has done (Friedman & Schustack, 2009). He demonstrates the specific defence mechanism of rationalization and he does this by trying to justify murdering Harvey Dent's, a pivotal character to the film's plot, girlfriend. He explains to Dent that her death was not his fault and he does such things (i.e., killing innocent people) to show others how pathetic they are for believing that they have control in their lives “ “ (De La Noy & Nolan,
In the movie The Dark Knight, there two heroes, Batman and Harvey Dent, sometimes know as Gotham's white knight. As the movie progresses, Harvey Dent is more of a hero then Batman because of the criminals he arrested. The Joker comes along and wants to control all of Gotham but first he must kill Batman in order to accomplish that. The Joker threatened to kill everybody until Batman reveals who he really is. Later on in the movie, Batman has to choose how to save, Rachel, Bruce Wayne’s (batman) love or Harvey Dent. Batman choosed Harvey Dent and Rachel Died. Although Batman was chosen Harvey tov save, he was too late and Harvey’s right side face burn off. After Harvey Dent recovers, he becomes Two Face, one side of his face is burnt off, his is where he becomes a tragic hero.
The Joker was once seen as a comical criminal who committed ridiculously silly crimes, such as spreading laughing gas throughout Gotham City. However, after the reinvention of Batman, The Joker was transformed into a grave and terrorizing character. Continuing the course of the new personality given to The Joker, writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland created a graphic novel called The Killing Joke, “a much more complex, darker, and ultimately, frightening story” (Wooldridge) which tells one of the origins of The Joker since The Joker himself is unsure of his true inception. However, this particular graphic novel “isn’t about how the Joker came to be, it’s an examination of
The Dark Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan, demonstrates the idea of good versus evil. Batman is known as the protagonist, and Joker is known as the ultimate villain. The representation of crime in the film is seen from the actions of both characters. The film essentially depicts the act of deviance meaning, “behaviour that violates social norms, including laws”. In normality the government would have the greatest amount of power, but in the Gotham city, power is complex. There is minimal structure of law and order in Gotham city due to powerful people like Batman and the Joker. Citizens of Gotham city can no longer fight for themselves in a world filled with supernatural powers. Therefore, the only hope that citizens have rest in the hands of Batman. Although Batman attempts to save Gotham city from Joker’s criminal intentions. Batman, however, also plays a role in deviant activity while attempting to catch the Joker. Realistically, Batman violates the moral code due to destructive behaviour, and putting the lives of citizens at harm. He does not care for social norms, nor whether his acts are of legality. He is devoted to combat organized crime with Harvey Dent, a district attorney in Gotham city. Batman is in fact, the definition of crime, he understands but does not abide to individual rights and social contracts which make up the rule of law. In addition, the man behind Batman, Bruce Wayne also portrays a form of deviance by disguising himself as Batman.
Harvey Dent wanted to be district attorney and be able to control crime. He wanted to be everything Batman couldn’t be and have power over crime. This can easily be compared to Macbeth wanting to have power. What makes Harvey Dent a tragic figure is the fight he has with his inner self. Harvey Dent had said “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”, this is ironic because it foreshadows future events.
The Joker, is a purposeless criminal. He will destroy anything, or anyone who gets in his way, just to accomplish his goal, to break Batman's personal rules, to never kill or harm anyone, but to save Gotham City from danger and
The Joker has no alter ego. He walks around the way he is with his deformed face full of scars and in some versions, with his bright colored hair and bleached skin, always with that maniac, chilling laughter which always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. He has no personal agenda to all the brutality he inflicts, no thirst for revenge or materialistic goals made him reach this point. He lives to dismantle the codes the society lives by and all he hopes for is to rip apart the expected codes of morality, so the people can then be free of any faith, any belief of right or wrong. He creates situations for the people of his town
Almost 2 years ago while watching a documentary about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when I first seen the photo of the “Fort Worth Five.” I do not understand why, but Harvey “Kid Curry” Logan immediately caught my attention. It was almost a feeling of familiarity, like I knew him from somewhere or something. After that I bought books about him and learned as much as I could about him. Harvey “Kid Curry” Logan, or Harvey Curry, has become well-known for being the evilest, and violent outlaw of his time. However, I do not agree, and Harvey Logan has become my favorite outlaw of all time.
So the simple way of stating it is that there can never be a world with any rules. If Aristotle were to view the jokers point he would point out the virtue of of rashness and dishonour just by viewing the Joker’s personality. The main distinction between the Joker and Harvey Dent is that until Harvey has his accident which burns one side of his coin. Harvey has already declared what he plans on doing he just flips the two sided coin just to flip the coin. The joker on the other hand is a wild dog chasing a car, trying to reach something that is usually unreachable.
Bruce Wayne the protagonist, along with district attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Jim Gordon are fighting a sadistic villein, the joker. Throughout the movie the joker tests their boundaries and force them to make extremely difficult and ethical decisions. The movie begins with Batman’s realization that he can no longer put him
Gotham has returned to a state of fraudulence and criminality. Crime lurks at every corner. People are terrified to go out at night. Citizens are relying on Batman to sort out their problems. However, crime continues through secret organizations. And a rising criminal mastermind is set to thrust Gotham into chaos.
Batman v. The Joker Conceived in mayhem, Batman’s ultimate nemesis the Joker wreaks havoc on the city of Gotham in a continuous tirade of escaping the claws of justice. With the Dark Knights code of honor ‘never to kill’ the ultimate solution to stopping the Jokers antics is just out of reach; Tauriq Moosa a journalist for BigThink debates the question, should Batman kill The Joker? Bringing about external quotes and information, Tauriq presents convincing points that help the reader reason the complexity of Batman’s moral code. To begin the article Tauriq refers to a quote by Heath Legers portrayal of the Joker, “This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.” (Dark Knight, 2008), the author wisely references this quote early to portray the
Even with the drastically decreased crime rates, Batman watches over Gotham, anticipating a new threat. Just before his death, the Joker, managed to infect patients of Gotham’s hospitals with his infected blood. Even though a lot of them were cured, some of them started to look and act like the Joker. Determined to find a cure, Batman assigns Robin to watch over the
Mike Ross, Jessica Pearson, Donna Paulson ; surely Pearson Spectar Litt connects them together but what bonds them with each other more is the mutual undying love for one man- Harvey Spectar.
