In the article The Intellectual Free Lunch, the Wall Street Journal focuses on a middle-class group of white men that are mad at welfare and lobbyists. The thesis “Washington should stop sending money aboard and instead zero in on the domestic front”. The thesis explains that the Americans government need to spend more money on our own country and less on foreign aid. Basically, stop sending money out of our country or giving free handouts. Instead we need to focus on our own nation and help build our economics first, before giving money and resulting us to overspend our budget.

The National Public Radio (NPR) author Anya Kamenetz published an article titled Is College Really Free? She begins the piece by addressing the new coming attraction of the words “free college.” The rage began when the presidential campaign took off and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders focused around the topic of universal college in America. The author mentioned that New York Govenor Andrew Cuomo has been proactive and proposed an idea for the city of New York. He created a scholarship plan that would allow families earning under $125,000 a year to receive free tuition for a 2 or four year term at any New York state university. Freedom Summer was a nonviolent effort by civil rights activists to integrate Mississippi's segregated political system during 1964. It raised the consciousness of millions of people to the troubles of African-Americans and the need for change. Americans all around the country were shocked by the killing of civil rights workers and the brutality they witnessed on their televisions. For nearly a century, segregation had prevented most African-Americans in Mississippi from voting or holding public office. Segregated housing, schools, workplaces, and public accommodations denied black Mississippians access to political or economic power.

In order to talk about the Freedom Summer project, we first have to identify it’s roots and the history behind it. Before the Freedom Summer project, there was the civil right movement in which thousands of African Americans protested for equality. Equality didn’t mean the term referred in the court case Plessy vs Ferguson “separate but equal.” African Americans wanted to end the era of segregation, this include not having to use lower quality public facilities than whites, not having to give their seats in a bus if a white person wanted to sit there, and the right to vote. In the Summer of 1964, the Mississippi Summer Project, also known as Freedom Summer, was organized by several Civil Rights organizations such as the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee and the Congress on Racial Equality. The event that caused the start of Freedom Summer were that many African-Americans were not registered to vote, this was because the southern states had implemented literacy tests that were unfair and could be interpreted differently, and Poll Taxes which were ridiculous amounts to pay ("Freedom Summer"). Other causes include the case of Plessy Vs. Ferguson, which stated the “Separate but Equal” clause, and also Racial segregation. Freedom Summer Volunteers included White Northerners, and the organization was made to focus on the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Voter Registration, Freedom Schools, and Community Centers (“Timeline: Freedom Summer”). There was a need for the Freedom Summer because Many African-American People in the south were being oppressed by Literacy Tests and Poll Taxes.

I never will understand this day to the fair and what all happened, I don’t think anyone will. I just know that one animal ruined a month for me. It was the week right before fair, and all I did was walk my cow. It was the first time ever showing a cow, my brother convinced me that it would be a fun learning experience. That didn’t happen at all for me when I walked into that show ring with a 1,100 pound steer. I was up at 4:00 a.m. the morning of the show, and I was ready to go wash my cows and get them ready for the show.

Is America free? Because I live in America, Am I free? The answer to this question all comes from what you think freedom means. If you feel freedom is 100% no control over anything, you can just run around rampant and do whatever and get away with it, Then no America is not free.

Many people don’t know the importance of Red ribbon week, starting with the fact that it is about drugs. Most kids don’t know any type of drugs except smoking. Well, smoking isn’t the only type of drug, there are many types of drugs such as Cannabis, Cocaine, Ecstasy, prescription drugs, alcohol, and even cigarettes. Drugs are very addictive because some have a chemical called Dopamine. It is a bad thing to be addicted to drugs, because drugs do terrible things to you. Drugs can damage the brain, heart and other important organs. For example, Cocaine can cause a heart attack in anyone who takes it, including kids and teens. Freedom Summer has most of black Mississippians and over one-thousand out of state white volunteers face abuse and harassment from Mississippi's white population. The Ku Klux Klan police did a series of violent attacks towards them. About a hundred white college students had help cofo register voters on November 1963, and several hundred students more had been invited to expand the voters project in the Freedom Summer.

Free college is a commonly accepted idea, as a crucial part of society's advancement. Education is the foundation for building a strong country, as knowledge is what allows for productivity in all areas of life. However, the cost and accessibility to standard higher education limits many people's availability to a quality schooling. Some may argue that public colleges should continue to charge tuition, as the federal government can not afford the cost nor will creating higher taxes to enable the program solve the crisis. However, ultimately, higher education should be free as it would stimulate economic growth, remove the primary deterrent for not attending college and decrease dependence on government aid.
