By adding a free hour to school, students would be able to catch up on school work, have time to relax, and give teachers some time off. Adding this free period would give students the option to catch up on school work. When students miss school days, that automatically means missed work. So when students are sick, missing work will pile up fast. Students who do sports don’t always have time to do their homework when it gets late. Some sports don’t end until late times, and some sports may take over the whole weekend and then they can’t get work done in time. Some students can’t keep up with all of their work because it gets difficult. When work gets hard you mad need extra help from teachers. Having a time to relax would also
First and foremost, if students have to come back from school later in the day then the after school activities will be shortened. Their sport practices will be shortened and they won’t have time work on any work in
The school board plans is considering adding one and a half hours to the school day.The extra one and half of hours would provide more instruction time. This would also provide students more time for remediation, and teachers more time to plan interactive lessons with the extension of the school day. For these reasons, the school board should extend the school day by one and a half hours.
A free period would be able to give students a break. A break would allow students a chance to relax. Students don't really get a time to hang out with friends and a free period would be a good time for it. Breaks get you moving from walking or jogging which helps
Right now students wake up, go to school for eight whole hours, go to practice if they’re in extracurricular activities, come home, eat, and do homework. By the time they complete everything it’s time to go to bed. When do students have time to live their own life? Unless they stay up until unhealthy hours of the night, they don’t have any personal time. An extra day would give them time to catch up on homework, sleep, and even have a chance to get a job. Katherine Bradley supports an extra day by writing, “Some students feel the four-day school week provides an opportunity for extra rest and a less stressful environment. Also, students who are athletes don't miss as much class and have less work to make up when events occur on a day off.”(Bradley). Getting through a five day week is a huge strain, but only having four days lets students have more breathing room, making school much less stressful. The students are healthier and more willing to work. Students could take on some kind of hobby, or even have more family time. As the students are operating better, the teachers would have a extra day to create even better lessons for their
Well that would require us to add 1 hour and 45 minutes to each day. This would have us going to 5:00 p.m. each day. Some students get to school at 6:20 for athletics. If they had to stay until five, they will have been at school for 10 hours and 40 minutes which will easily over stress and work these students. Even those who don’t have athletics have to be at the school by 8:00 a.m. and would have to stay till 5:00 p.m. The classic american work hours are 9-5. That composes a 8 hour shift which is what most people work. This means that students will be here for 1 hour more than the number of hours most adults work.
I think high school students need a longer break during the school day to relax and prepare for the rest of the school day. We don’t want recess, but an amount of time every day that we can be with friends and be able to get their mind off of classes and assignments and maybe even get some physical exercise. A recent study said “according to a growing body of research, people learn better if they are given breaks during their day”(Do High School Students Need Recess?" KQED Education KQED Public Media for Northern CA. N.p., n.d. Web. 26 Aug. 2015). This shows that a majority of people can not only learn better, but are more likely to receive better grades. Why would schools not want to do this? This would not
Many kids today don’t like school, and many parents and teachers don’t understand why. “The amout of homework we have is unreal, I spend all my time afterschool locked up in my room doing homework and can never get any sleep,~Student.” Now, the school board plans to add and and a half hours to the school day, and I think that this is not fair. The school board should not add an extra hour and a half to the school day because kids will have less time to do homework, they will not recieve enough sleep, and they will have less time afterschool.
Each year hundreds of dollars of scholarship money go down the drain. This is because few people take advantage of the scholarships and other means that are available to them. Along with this, it shows students that there are many resources for paying for college. This is why many Americans believe that the government should not have to fund college for two years. Having two years of free college would be a disaster on the economy and affect the people around them. College should not be funded by the government because it would create a huge influx of students to teachers causing it to not be as personal. Secondly, it would lead to more hardworking tax dollars having to be spent on building additional classrooms and meeting areas for more students. Finally, this would cause qualifications for jobs to be higher and harder to get.
Events we stress about all year would no longer exist such as low test scores, behavioral problems, attendance, and dropouts. “In 2002, high schools in Jessamine County in Kentucky changed the first bell to 8:40 a.m. Attendance immediately went up as did scores on standardized tests, which have continued to rise each year.” With such a simple act students would never have to work as frantically and could focus on study time with their teachers. Only a child and their brain can know when they work best and early would not be the answer for anyone.
to do their homework. Teachers already pile students up with homework and projects, adding time to the school day would just allow
I always come home from school and do my homework. I do not think adding another hour would help with that. I think adding another hour has some advantages, and disadvantages. I think if teachers did not give homework it might give children more time to be in school without
This allows the student more time to focus on what they are doing to develop better study habits which may lead to a better grade point average. Furthermore, there are longer intervals during the week to divide the week’s lessons so there is perhaps less homework during each day. Since there is more school time during the week there might be time to have added privileges such as art, computer lab, physical education, and much more. These extra activities will encourage students to come to school and not be absent by pretending to be sick.
I highly disagree with this situation about the school adding half of an hour. I will explain why it’s a bad decision. It is not a smart idea just to keep children in the school for an hour because
Some may argue that giving a free day would create a mess in a schedule, but if teachers took the time to build it into their original schedule, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Students would need all the time they need to do their work. So if they discontinue a period that would mean the other seven periods would be added more time. So when they have more time to work in class, they can get it done in class and not have homework. Since there
