The world is far from a uniform system. Each and every individual is placed in a different situation depending on everything from location, race, beliefs, and economic status. Psychology looks at how individuals come out of these specific environments and how they transform into an adult through the trials and tribulations of their growth. In The Blind Side, director John Lee Hancock focuses on an athletically skilled African-American teen, Michael Oher, who is transformed from a homeless orphan from the projects into a highly sought after college football prospect through a positive change in family, school, and supportive surroundings.

The Blind Side is a movie that depicts the story of a young African American homeless teenager named Michael Oher. Michael falls out of the education system at a young age and has no parental guidance to lead him in the right direction. Michael eventually meets a rich white family who decides to take him in as their child. Throughout the duration of the movie society’s gender norms are placed upon him. This movie portrays how the rich help the poor; the rich being a white family and the poor being a black male.

She encouraged him, protected him and taught him the value of family and the importance of protecting them. Towards the end of the movie, Leigh Ann decides to adopt Michael legally. She was surprised that when she got to a government official, they said that she would only need to sign some papers without consulting his biological mother.
