Running with this information can now write out the equation AB2 + BC2 = AC2. One important thing is that we must note that AB is equal to “X” and the line segment of BC is equal to that of 2x+4, and that AC will be equal to that of 2x+6. So we will now input this information to create (x)2 + (2x + 4)2 = (2x + 6)2 and begin factoring each term into two sections. These two sections will be as x*x + (2x + 4)(2x + 4) = (2x + 6)(2x + 6). x times x is x2. An important tool to use now would be the FOIL method, so we will take (2x + 4)(2x + 4) and create 4x2 + 16x + 16. Right off the bat we notice that we have like terms. So we will add x2 to 4x2 to get 5x2. This will create 5x2 + 16x + 16 = 4x2 + 24x+ 36. Now we will use the subtraction property to get 5x2 – 4x2 + 16x – 24x + 16 – 36 = 0, however we still have like terms, so because 5x2 is a like term with -4x2 we will add them together to get x2. We will also combine 16x and –24x and also 16 and –36 which are also like terms and create –8x and –20, our equation should now look like x2 – 8x -- 20 = 0.We will now factor the equation from left to right, first factoring x2 which has 1 coefficient so the fact will be 1 and -1. The other term will be 20 which have no coefficient so we will do 5x4 and then 4 still can be divided so 2x2. This will create 20=225.
He subtracts $85.24 from $255.97 and gets his total of $170.73. Tom buts on his winter stuff and runs to the Turkey and Stuffin Car Rental Store or TASCRS for short. He rents a car that can go 32 mpg (miles per gallon). The gas prices are $3.10 per gallon. On his way to Miami he drives 786 miles and has to pay $76.15 because when you do $3.10 x 786, but the total amount he has to pay is $152.28 because when you do 1,572 x $3.10 it is $152.28. Tom decides to take a desert so before he left his house he made Chocolate Chip Cookies, but he had to multiply the original amount by 2 ¼. He needs 4 ½ cups of all-purpose flour so he multiplies it by 2 and gets 10 ⅛. Then he needs 2 teaspoons of baking soda and he multiplies it by 2 ¼ and gets 4 ½ and he also gets 4 ½ cups of butter and teaspoons of vanilla. He then does 1 ½ cups of brown sugar by 2 ¼ and gets 3 ⅜. He also does ½ cup of white sugar by 2 ¼ and gets 1
There are retention ponds in Florida. A business built a building over one of these ponds. The pond is a perfect circle, and the building is a perfect rectangle. The corners of the building are ABCD, and the ratio of side AB to side BC is 4 to 3. The perimeter of the building measures 280 units, and the edge of the pond is 4 units beyond the corner of the building. We want to figure out the area of the pond that is not covered by the building.
Use a ruler to draw a 15 cm horizontal line in the middle of a blank sheet of paper.
The section of the yard that is being converted is labeled ABC. The sides can be named ABC to co enroll as the opposite angles while using similar letters. Like side A is opposite of angle A. Maurice used the Law of Cosines to the find the length of side B. To use this, Maurice must have two sides and are angled between them to solve for missing length. The sides are A and C and the angle is
Give the lengths to the nearest tenth. There are many ways to get started, but today we are going to start off with the side XW. We first need to find out what a is. You can use a calculator. We know that a is opposite of angle Y. So now if you see we are able to use the tangent function because we have the opposite side of 65 degrees and the adjacent side of 65 degrees which is 5. So Tan 65o= a/5. Now we can solve for a. So we are going to multiply both sides of the equation by 5. And we are left with a= 5 x tan 650. Now we can get our calculators out and figure out what this is to the nearest tenth. Now the number you will get is 10.7225346025. But it says to round to the nearest tenth. So the answer for a is approximately equal to 10.7. So we now know that a has an approximate length of 10.7. Now its time to tackle the side YW. We can go two ways, we can use Trigonometric Function, or we can use the Pythagorean Theorem. I am going to use the Trigonometric Functions. So Cosine deals with the Adjacent over the Hypotenuse. To continue we are going to take cos 65o= 5/b. and then we multiply both sides by b, and you are left with b x cos 65o = 5. And then to solve for b you are going to divide both sides by cos 65o which is equal to b=5/cos 65o. And now you ender that into your Calculator and you end up with b is approximately 11.8. We are almost done salving this right triangle. The next thing we do is we need to find the measure of
The height is 16 feet because since the triangles are similar by AA similarity. With that being said, you have to set up the triangles proportionally, so you have 5 over 20 is equal to 4 over x, then you solve for x. 2 angles of one triangle are congruent to 2 angles of the second triangle. So you have 20/5=x/ then cross multiply. Once you cross multiply u get 5x = 80, then solve it to the height. That is how you get 16 feet for the height
One example of finding the measurements of a right triangle through the use of the trig
I think Heron's Formula can be very helpful when you have access to all three sides. It's nice to use because the equation doesn't require the use of an angle like the formula “Area of triangle given SAS.” The simplest formula is A=1/2b*h, however, it requires the height, and Heron's Formula does not need the height to successfully find the area.
To get this formula we just have to think about two right triangles, using the slope of the first one to figure out the length of the adjacent side of the second one (height/slope).
