For ten years my parents sheltered me from the truth about my Grandfather’s suicide. The day he died is a blur, but I remember our afternoons together in his garden reading books he brought home from the library he worked at, and evenings eating Chinese food and watching ice skating—two of his favorite things. Finding out he committed suicide left me with myriad questions. As I matured my desire for understanding intensified. Drawn to human behavior and the mechanisms that affect it, I applied to the University of California at Berkeley as a Psychology major. As an aspiring Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, I will graduate from UNCG with my BSN, work for a year as an RN, and eventually attend a graduate school to accomplish my ultimate goal of obtaining my DNP. As a neonatal nurse practitioner, it is imperative to exude compassion, while demonstrating critical thinking skills when faced with arduous circumstances. As I begin my fifth year of working as a nurse practitioner in a leading children’s hospital, I am certain the pediatric acute care setting is where I will continue my career of service to children and their families. Although I hold a masters degree in nursing and have been a primary care certified pediatric nurse practitioner for many years, I wish to expand my knowledge of pediatric nursing to encompass the unique and challenging aspects of pediatric acute care.

I am starting the Family Nurse Practitioner program this fall in order to further advance my career as a nurse while pursuing my passion. I have been a medical-surgical and intermediate care nurse for the past four years. Along my journey as a nurse I have experienced many different roles from floor nurse, preceptor, to supervisor. My favorite role I had as a nurse was on the glycemic unit which I had the privilege to help get up and running.

I am an Emergency Department nurse whose goal is to care for patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have had the privilege of working in a fast pace setting with patients of all ages and I’ve been exposed to various medical illnesses. As an Emergency Department nurse, I feel these qualities have provided me with experiences that further my education and allow me to provide care to patients. Furthermore, I have gained valuable knowledge from recognizing and stabilizing critical patients to help with the care for uncomplicated medical conditions.

The nursing field gives a person the opportunity to work with and care for elderly, sick, and injured patients. I want to join the registered nurse team because they take on multiple medical settings. Registered nurses are known as RNs. They are responsible for multiple things. Being a RN has a lot of responsibility. The topics I will be covering are: job description, specialties, trends, salary, benefits, and required trainings. These are essential things that a person needs to know before going into nursing school.

How often does a 4-year-old child grow up and become exactly what they said they would? I walked across the stage at pre-school graduation, and I said I wanted to be a nurse, and 20 years later I am proud to call myself a Registered Nurse. I explored other avenues in the medical field during high school and college, but always found myself called back to nursing. I attended the University of Dallas immersed myself in their pre-medical program, however I desired something more.

May I express my keen interest to apply for a job in your institution as a Registered Nurse Division 1. I have heard a lot of positive things about Alfred Health specifically Caulfield Hospital, which is one of the leading rehabilitative facilities here in Victoria. I spent my clinical placement there in the Sub-acute Aged Care Unit (Ch-12 ACG) in Alfred Health (Caulfield) for four weeks and the learning experience by far has been awesome and inspiring. I have a great passion in both geriatric and rehabilitative nursing and I am convinced that Caulfield Hospital would be the best place to sharpen my knowledge, attitude and skills as a nurse in the given fields.

IU Bloomington has a beautiful campus with great heaps of diversity springing from each corner, which makes me appreciate the languages and cultures here, as well as the one hundred year old nursing program. Both will assist me in reaching my ultimate career goal of becoming a multilingual travel nurse practitioner. Ever since I began high school, the profound art of being able to diagnose, treat and find a cure for sick patients in the medical field drew me in. Likewise, when my mother was sick, she solidified my desire to become a nurse practitioner as I would be able to stay along her bedside while I nursed her back to health. While in my junior year of high school, my mother was diagnosed with multiple fibroids in her uterus after years of frustration with pain and feeling lethargic.

Nursing professionals help individuals, families, and communities to attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life. The needs of patient care have evolved together with the healthcare system for a few decades, setting higher standards and delegating more roles for nursing professionals. Nurses, especially those with a bachelor’s degree, should always maintain continued education and teach other healthcare professionals as well. Please allow me to introduce myself as Crystal Jordan. I started with Poudre Valley Health System in January 2007 in the Patient Access Department. In late 2009, I transferred to the Medical/Neurology Unit at Medical Center of the Rockies to provide patient care as a Nursing Aide. I have deliberately but steadily pursued my passion for nursing working as a single mom. I graduated from Denver School of Nursing this past March, 2016.
