• Learning support– extra learning support can be provided by reducing numbers in a class, by having specific groupings or settings within that class,or by working separately in small groups or one to one with extra staff. • Behaviour support– for some children this is about learning to communicate and develop social skills. For others, it means support or counselling in a separate quiet space that has a balance between privacy and visibility for supervision. • Learning aids, ICT and special furniture, fittings and equipment– a variety of learning tools and teaching resources, ICT (computers and access technologies), specialist aids and equipment are used, some of which are bulky. Children may need particular furniture, fittings and equipment,
The current legislation relating to Positive Behavioural Support is titled - the Positive Behaviour Support Policy – Safe management of challenging behaviour in children and young people with learning
I have worked with the child on a one to one basis several times and the child reacts well to positive praise and receives stickers on a chart for good work. The child has an ‘in’ and ‘out’ tray for work to give them a sense of accomplishment when they have completed something. The child does not appear to have friendship issues and the other children in the class accept the child for who they are. The child has a playground buddy from the upper school that helps them during the playtimes when problems are more likely to occur. It is hoped that the plan the Behaviour Support Unit provides will give those who work with the child a clear framework to work in to provide the constancy that is needed to help alleviate the child’s behaviour.
This paper will be analysing Gemma’s case study. In the Overview of Assistive Technology and Implementation Video by Margina Busby, she gives a lecture on what assistive technology is and how it can be used in the classroom. I learned that assistive technology is “any item, piece of equipment or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized that is used to increase, maintain, or improve capabilities of individuals with disabilities.” Some examples of assisted technology are calculators, pencil grips, pocket dictionaries, communication systems (with or without voice output), adapted textbooks, and modified utensils. It is interesting to see all of the different forms of assistive technology that can be used in the classroom. I am currently taking a class
Children who have behavioral, emotional and social difficulties may be withdrawn or isolated, disruptive and disturbing and they may be hyperactive. They may lack concentration and have immature social skills. Challenging behavior may arise from other complex special needs. Children who have these needs may require a structured learning environment, with clear boundaries for each activity. They may need extra space to move around and to ensure a comfortable distance between themselves and others. They may take extreme risks or have outbursts and need a safe place to calm down.Behavior support or counseling may take place in a quiet supportive
Supporting Teacher- The role of the learning support/resource teacher (and/or other supporting teachers, where available) is to provide advice and resources to the class teacher which will assist him/her in the assessment process and in the development of classroom and, where appropriate, home based interventions for the pupil.
An outstanding support professional works with the teacher to create a classroom environment based on mutual respect for one another. Students are treated with kindness and fairness. Active listening is taught and modeled, along
I agree with the statement that according to the Center for Evidence-Based Policy, successful interventions involve proactivity, focused strategies, and applicability in the proper places. However, I differ on the fact that proactive measures are preferred over reactive measures to control behaviour. The positive process of bahavior support is a general or all-inclusive method of tackling a problematic behaviour or conduct in that it does not only take into account the behaviour itself, however, it also regards the characteristics or traits and the circumstances of the individual or child that exhibit that particular conduct, as well as the conditions together with people that are around it or that form the environment. Nevertheless, the interventions
The main thing the readers should know about this book is that the authors assume that the readers are parents who are seeking for help to resolve their children’s difficult behavior. For those who do not know, Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is a system to manage behavior and to understand what exactly the reasons that maintains an individuals’ challenging behavior (Hieneman et. al., 2006, p. 1). PBS stress that it is important to being proactive than reactive, respect one’s right to make their own choices, individualizing approaches based on the person’s needs and also making plans that works in a variety of settings (Hieneman et. al., 2006, p. 11). The authors always highlight that PBS is a highly effective tools that being used in schools and community programs across the
Behavioral interventions can include educating the patient on organization and increased focus, and help decrease problematic behaviors. This type of treatment can be used in conjunction with medication and is beneficial in that it can help the patient continuously through their life. Behavioral therapy is not used exclusively for the patient and there is also education for the parents as well. Teaching the parents and family members’ skills on how to effectively communicate may help to improve family life. Teachers also play an important role in the child life and could also benefit from learning these skills. Teachers can help the student accomplish their school tasks by giving them positive reinforcement when they finish a task (Clay, 2013).
There are many reasons why young children have challenging behaviors. These reasons, or functions, for behaviors are serving a purpose for that child. It is our job as educators to figure out what those functions are so they can be prevented or managed, in the case of disruptive or dangerous behaviors, or reinforced and encouraged, in the case of those positive behaviors we would like to see flourish. The way to do this is to determine the function of a behavior, implement an individual behavioral support plan, be consistent with it, and maintain
Apart from this, special teaching techniques, use of technology and tools and memory aids and computers are also included for the
This research was compiled so my educational support team would understand that I have taken the time to objectively look all the major responsibilities and decisions that are to be considered when transferring to a 4 year Universities. I will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and the universities I am considering are University of Texas San Antonio, West Texas A&M, Saint Edwards University and Texas State University. I feel that a degree in Public Administration will not only reach my educational goals but personal goals as well. Within five years from now, I will launch a non-profit organization; to help and assist people here in Bexar County. This research helped me beware that each university will have their own different
