In his speech “The Gettysburg Address”, Abraham Lincoln uses a variety of different rhetorical techniques in order to make an argument. The speech, which was given in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was written in order to commemorate the victims of the Battle of Gettysburg as well as to boost morale amongst the citizens. Lincoln starts the speech with the famous line “four score and seven years ago”, this alludes to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, an event that created the United States, a free country for all.
