Police brutality has been a growing issue in the United States of the past century. The unique thing about police brutality is it does not discriminate. With that said some races have it worse than others. Such as the African American race they are continently in the news for African Americans being shot and killed by the police. Many look at police brutality as a physical abuse, but it is much more than that. Some people have suffered from mental issues to, such as thinking back to a incident with the police or having anxiety everytime they see a police officer. With that in mind if the police are viewed as a threat in the eyes of some of the public it can only get worse.

Police brutality has been a major issue since slavery. In slavery people, mainly whites, were able to do anything to black people without having to deal without dealing with the consequences. Families were destroyed, people died, babies were killed, and many unknown factors still to this day that will never be known. When slavery was abolished, it did not end right away. It took several years and still is not abolished if you look at in a political way. People of power, mainly white, were not happy that a black person could be seen as equals. This is the main reason why they feel it is okay to lash out at black people. There are several major issues that are causing and epidemic in The United States. However, the main issue that seems to be the most discussed is about police brutality in the black community. “Police brutality is the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians. “Excessive use of force” means a force well beyond what would be necessary in order to handle a situation. Police brutality can be present in a number of ways. The most obvious form of police brutality is a physical form. Police officers can use nerve gas, batons, pepper spray, and guns in order to physically intimidate or even intentionally hurt civilians. Police brutality can also take the form of false arrests, verbal abuse, psychological intimidation, sexual abuse, police corruption, racial profiling, political repression and the improper use of Tasers”

Within the past few years, incidents involving many deaths of unarmed African Americans and police officers have been broadcasted across the media. A large portion of these incidents result in protest and advocation against police brutality. There are a wide range of feelings and viewpoints people care to discuss concerning the topic of police brutality. Usually, when an African American person is killed by the hands of a police officer, people tend to explain how police brutality is the cause and culprit. Some people voice how police brutality is a matter that needs to quickly addressed while others believe it doesn 't even exist and therefore is not a cause for concern. A police force is an organized body of people empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. In today’s society, it is often questioned if policeman’s purpose in society is fulfilled. Since 2015, police have killed 964 people in the U.S. Despite being only 13% of the population, black people were 25% (242) of those killed. (MappingPoliceViolence.org) These killings are often identified as police brutality. Police brutality is the use of any force exceeding reasonably necessary to accomplish a lawful police purpose. Police brutality is a rising but yet unsolved issue that remains relevant in today’s society. Differences between African Americans and police officers often affect interaction amongst each other. When police officers aren’t representative of the people they are supposed to protect, they often use cultural differences, racial tensions, and bias to target or view these communities as dangerous.

African Americans are the number one group to be gunshot by law enforcement officers. Police brutality has been an issue for many years, and it is still a major concern for the minority community. Police officers use deadly, excessive force that leads to inexcusable assaults, beating, shootings and overall many deaths. Although, police brutality comes any many forms but some of the common ones are racial profiling, and use of deadly force. In order to see why so many people are outraged by the recent police brutality events we should change how police are trained, how they communicate with the community members, and overall how we can change the outcomes of police brutality.

In today society, police brutality is seen in many news media. You cannot go on social media or television without seeing a police officer shooting an unarmed African American male for very little reason. Recently twenty-three years old Stephon Clark was shot by Sacramento office officers in the back for allegedly resisting arrest for breaking windows. When comes to police brutality, African Americans is the fore front of this topic. This topic called police brutality goes back to the slave patrol when the patrollers will monitor the slaves and the slave owners to make sure that the slaves will get the punishment for staying out of order. As Black America knows, this problem has been embedded in our community and in America for over 200 years, while white America is till hearing about it. However, that not one of the biggest problem with this issue. The issue is when African American women like myself or male will stop seeing cops getting away for murder or assault. When I am going to stop seeing my people rioting and show the criminal justice how angry we are with this racial systematic practice.

In Today’s Society we are dealing with things such as racism, wrongful incarceration, policy brutality and many more. Police Brutality is when excessive force is used by a police officer. In today’s time it has become not just excessive but deadly. The issues that really needs to be up for discussion is the innocent lives that are being taken due to the way officers are treating our citizens.

32 percent of black people killed by police this year were unarmed, compared to 15 percent of white people and 25 percent of Hispanic and Latino people. Police brutality has a been a topic that you have seen through the news lately. This has been a constant problem, especially with minorities. A bunch of innocent minorities has died because of police brutality, People such as Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and etc. These people have accused of doing something that they were really not doing. Police brutality is a growing problem in America and it is has taken a bunch of innocent lives.

The United States is facing a continuous wide spread of police brutality from the past to today. TV Networks, newspapers/magazines, bloggers and forums are getting involved into the discussion about police brutality. After a father bought a toy gun for his son for his birthday, his son went outside to play and a police officer saw him with the gun not knowing it was a toy and shot him several times. This incident occurred in Sonoma County in October 2013. Something close to that happened in November 2014 where a Cleveland police officer killed a 12-year-old boy carrying a toy gun. On April 12, 2015 Freddie Gray was arrested by Baltimore City police and while being transported he allegedly fell in a coma, with injuries to his spinal cord. Use of excessive force by police is common in black communities. Officers aren’t trained effectively and they act out of fear. Excessive force by law enforcement officers is a violation of a person 's rights.

Today in America there has been a growing problem amongst people and the police force. There has been many cases over the past couple of years were the police has used brute force on citizens. The main group of people suffering from police brutality is young African Americans. The young blacks feel that they are being targeted by the police. These cases continue to happen with no signs of stopping anytime soon. The police have been using brute force on black Americans for years now. There was a major that spark awareness on police brutality a couple of years ago. This case was the Trayvon Martin case that stated the whole black lives matter movement. This case was one of the key features to start the black lives matter movement.

Police brutality is a growing epidemic. According to Statics, (2015) in the United States, a police officer takes the life of a citizen every 7 hours. In 2015, there were 1,307 people who lost their lives at the hands of a police officer or law enforcement official. In 2016, that number was 1,152. Although lower, both years are still higher than the 1,149 people who were killed by police in 2014. Police Brutality is an enduring problem and current concern in the America and should be fixed instantly. Those of the minority community have been subjected, for many decades, to violence by those in law enforcement in the United States. We have to enforce the law function as a component that consists of prepared and educating officers. This type of violence is a direct description of police brutality. Police brutality has been a problem for many years, and it remains a major concern for those of the minority community. Police brutality is not a new subject. It has been around for numerous years, and like most issues, has resurfaced to the public’s eyes. The recent events brought up the question: Does there need to be a reform in the system in the police system? Conflict between African Americans and police has been a continuous issue that has been afflicting American society ever since The Civil Rights movement. The confrontation between these two groups is one of the most serious issues in America. From the Civil Rights era to the present, tension has and still is exhibited through media insinuation, intrinsic human nature, lack of awareness, institutional racism and violence, which divides the two groups. Today in society problems mainly emerge between the two groups due to lack of awareness and different forms of discrimination and prejudice. The commonality of police brutality has become a norm in American society so much so that police officers get away with crimes and injustice everyday.
