There are statistics that alcohol consumption has lowered since 1984. Some attribute this to the fact that drinking age is set at 21, but this is not absolutely the reason because even where it is set at 18 people make their own choices of whether to drink or not. It is also evident that setting the drinking age at 21 against 18 does not eliminate teenage drinking problems; instead it just keeps them on hold until the teens get to 21 years of age. In some cases keeping the minimum drinking age at 21 encourages teens to drink more. Hence drinking age should be set at the age of 18. Here are some of the reasons why.

Government officials and citizens alike have debated whether the drinking age laws should be lowered to eighteen once again. MLDA twenty one does not work and is being ignored by minors and adults. Even lower drinking ages imposed in other countries are working, judging by their lower death rates. By enabling people eighteen and under to drink, the economy would grow. The minimum legal drinking age limit should be reverted back to the original eighteen years old.

We believe that the drinking age should stay the current number in order to save more lives and protect many people from getting harmed in any way. The drinking age in the United States is currently 21. I believe that this drinking age should be lowered to 18. One reason why I believe this is because in the United States 18 is the age of adulthood so I think they they should be able to make there own decisions because you are not a minor anymore. For example, you are allowed to buy a house, vote, join the military, serve jury duty, get married, apply for loans, and use tobacco products. There are 115 countries with a MLDA (Minimum Legal Drinking Age) of 18-19. Also there is only 12 countries with a MLDA of 21. Friends, America drinking age should be lowered from age 21 to 18 in orders to allow the freedom that adults have. There are a lot of things to do when people turn 18 in this country except drinking. It’s hard to enjoy high school graduation party without moderate amount of drink beverage. Many other countries already allowed people to drink under age 21. From my point of view, I believe that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 years old. If this were to happen, there could be many positive results within it. One major reason is that with the drinking age set as 21, you are technically a legal adult at the age of 18 years old. We should be able to be responsible enough to decide what we do. Second, death rate could possibly go down. By that I mean with that being a restricted item and then when we turn 21, we get to drink all we want. We won’t be able to be responsible with it and that is lead up to how dangerous drinking is. We just never learned. Another reason it it all that this law isn't stopping anyone. We don't care, we’ll find way to get what we want. So in that case it should be lowered so it won’t be counted towards as illegal. My last reason is that whole point of having the age higher is that we will be responsible. But in all, age will never have anything to do with the responsibility to drink. Despite being considered an adult, they still cannot buy or consume alcohol legally. A person can be responsible enough to pay their own bills, live by themselves, have a job at the age of eighteen. Despite all this the U.S. government believes that twenty-one is the time when a person is responsible enough to drink alcohol. The United States is outnumbered by countries that have a lower drinking age. Some people will argue that teenage years are very important in brain development; other people will say drinking at this age would cause more accidents and injuries. In all actuality lowering the drinking age to eighteen would give people a right they deserve.
