What is a community? A community is a group of people who care about each other. In “The Outsiders” the greasers have a special kind of community. In fact I wouldn't call it a community, they are more of a family. In “The Outsiders” we meet a group of greaser. They are obviously a community, but they are a special type of community. The greasers are a family. Not all of the greasers are related to each other. Johnny isn't related to Ponyboy, Sodapop, Dally, Darry, or Two- Bit, but they are all one family; or community. They all care for each other, and that’s what i think a community is. People who aren't necessarily related coming together to care and love each other as a family is a true community. The greasers are a true family and you
Serious events can cause change in a person's life. S.E. Hinton's novel The Outsiders tells a story about a teenage boy, Ponyboy, that lives with his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. Pony and his gang are all poor Greasers so they are constantly mugged by the privileged Socs. Since the Socs and Greasers do not get along and are constantly fighting each other, the kids are almost always injured. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy learns a lot of important lessons because of the events that take place. Pony learns that all Socs are not mean, that Darry does love him, and that there is lots of good in the world. He learns many different things that help his life; however, the most valuable lesson is that all Socs are not rude.
What is the importance of a community? A community is a loving place where people live and love each other ,but other communities have problems with their inhabitants. First, What a loving community is made of. Second, what a negative community is composed of. The world could always use more loving communities.
The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton was written in 1967. This novel tells the story of the conflict between two different social groups, the greasers and the socs. The socs were the socials who lived in the rich part of town, and the greasers were the lower class youths. This novel tackles issues such as violence, class conflict, and prejudice. The novel takes place in the early sixties. The Outsiders examines how two different groups compete, and unite for survival, which is often justified with violence. Hinton’s publishers decided that she should publish the novel under the name S.E. Hinton. They were worried that readers would not respect a females perspective on violence, and that is why
A community is a place where people around supposed to be able to live and thrive together. When one thinks of a community, the image that most likely is visualized is one of a place where each person lives harmoniously with all the other members of that community. While this may be the typical image of a community, it is not the realistic view. In reality communities can share both good and bad aspects. In Place Matters: Metropolitics for the Twenty-First Century Peter Dreier, John Mollenkopf, and Todd Swanstrom make the argument that the place a person lives ultimately matters over all else; the place which a person lives effects the choices that that he/she makes and determines his/her ability to obtain a
According to Stanhope and Lancaster (2008) defines a community as: “A social group determined by geographic boundaries and/or common values and interests. Its members know and interact with one another. It functions within a particular social structure and exhibits and creates norms, values, and social institutions” (World Health Organization [WHO], 1974, pg. 7).
Community is defined as a group a people living in an area under the same conditions. Realistically, a community is so much more than this definition. It is people and their different beliefs that form a community. In the town of Milagro, Amarante Cordova, Ruby Archuleta, and a town coming together to rescue a fellow community member from jail exemplify the true spirit of what community is.
Communities play an essential role in the development of the self and learning about the stranger. Through communities, individuals are able to socialize and create a greater understanding of each other. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls describes the community of which she felt most part of during her childhood. Walls says, “. . .
A community is a group of people who live in the same area, interact with each other, and share certain norms and values. A community is defined as a locality-based entity, composed of systems of formal organizations reflecting societal institutions, informal groups, and aggregates that are interdependent and whose function or expressed intent is to meet a wide variety of collective needs (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012).
To me, community is a group of people working, living and being in the same local area or place. The idea of a community as virtual would mean to include a community of people sharing social and common interests, ideas and goals (perhaps) via a social network. What it means for our society is that communities are connected virtual throughout society.
Published in 1967, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, has been shocking readers everywhere, up until this year. Of course, nobody had expected to read about social injustices and the struggles of everyday teenagers in such a book, which is one of the special reasons as to why it was written. Who would have anticipated finding massive predicaments in a novel they thought to include petty sub-plots? Surely this book taught many lessons and shared messages to those willing enough to comprehend. S.E. Hinton was successfully able to embed many messages into this book, one of them being the similarities many people can have despite how large the gaps between them may seem.
A community is where a group of people with many different backgrounds are united by one common thing. College and universities think putting young adults on a campus where they eat, sleep and learn together will make them become one community. Communities are made from within not from outside forces smashing people together. Florida Atlantic has many communities inside of it created by people who have the same interests in life. FAU doesn't have one set community as a whole because they are mostly characterized into different smaller groups and when brought together they form smaller cliques that don't usually interact.
Community exists between a social group of people who have a common culture, heritage, or share a common government. Community acts as a positive social value by giving people a sense of belonging. Huxley perverts community in his World State to exemplify the society as dystopian.
When you think of the word ‘outsider’ you think ‘outcast’, or, ‘someone who does not belong’. Well in this case, that would be accurate because Greasers are the Outsiders in town while the Socs run the place.
I believe that community is essentially the atmosphere that not only you can call home for yourself, but an environment where others, regardless if already established as a part of your community or brand-new to area, have equal access to nourished growth and opportunities to explore and connect with one another. Coming to Pomona College, from North Carolina, was a daunting transitioning for me and honestly had a me a little worried in regards to how I would have the chance to meet new friends and have the time to get to know the area inside and outside the Claremont Consortium for what it is. However, my worries started to disappear when I learned about Pomona Events Committee and all the innovative and socials events they put on throughout
The definition of community when I google it, is “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.” I would describe community as a group of people who have common goals, thoughts, or interests.
