You can't take something away from teens they have been waiting their whole lives for. A lot of people will be mad at everyone for raising the driving age.

We have implemented many ways in our society to decrease the amount of car accidents teens get into. Two of these ways are that you have to wait until you are 18 to drive and the other is the graduated license program. These are both effective ways to decrease the amount of teen car accidents, but they both have their pros and cons. Some people may prefer that you should wait until your 18 to drive, and others think the graduated license program is better. I personally think the GDL program is better than waiting until you are 18.

Graduated Driver Licensing would ensure that poor decision making and activities would be eliminated and corrected before becoming bad habits, given that the supervising adult is responsible.

Teens should should be eligible to drive when they received a work permit or have proven to parents that they are trustworthy and enough to take on the responsibility of driving. Taking away the driving privilege away from teens will also take away the chance for them to experience the responsibilities of growing up. Allowing a 16 year old and up can also be seen as a way for teens to take on responsibilities as and adults because driving is already a privilege so being a teen will make the fact that driving is a privilege paramount and it will help them to be more mature to keep the privilege.

In the article “Raise driving age to 18 when teens are more responsible” by Alexander he talked about how roads would be a lot safer if we raised the driving age. It would give the kids s chance to learn more about driving safety and rules of the road. The issue of freedom for teens are not gone, they can easily take bus to school or have somebody older to them to school or work with no problem.

The first position in this argument is some young people who do know how to drive or near to learn driving are mostly immature. Due to a recent study young drivers who do know how to drive are very immature and irresponsible about their driving skills such as drinking and driving, drugs, and sometimes just being behind the wheel will cause such things like car

Graduated licences go off the chart! This restricts teens to a certain amount of driving hours. Now some states are debating whether to get GDLS or keep it the same way it is. Teens having Graduated drivers licence will decrease the number of accidents.

Some might say that raising the driving age wouldn’t allow teens to get the experience they need to become better drivers. However, co-driving and graduated driving programs both give teens experience without compromising the safety of others. In fact, since the first graduated driver programs were instituted, there has been 1,348 fewer deadly crashes involving drivers ages 16-19. Some states have strict driving laws that require at least 70 hours of supervised driving, a minimum intermediate license age of 17, driving after 8 p.m. or a ban driving on with other teens in the vehicle. Graduated licensing programs restrict these actions until teen drivers have more experience because teens in the first few months of licensure have a high risk of crashing.

Even though some people have a belief that teens should “mature”, or graduate high school before they are able to legally drive without adult supervision, I strongly disagree on account of the following reasons.

I am fully aware that many young adults are eager to get behind the wheel but doing it safely is the best method. Experts claim,” teens in these states may be waiting until they turn 18 to apply for a license because that allows them to bypass the restrictions”. Honestly, this is the reason for which I haven’t studied to receive my permit and get experience behind the wheel, may be also because I’m lazy it is another reason for which I think teens wait until 18. Waking up early on Saturday mornings to get a feel what it’s like is much more simpler than studying for it to get a permit when 16. I personally think I’d be wasting my time, but in this case it is more beneficial for the driver's

Although, teenagers are not fully developed in the brain yet; they are advanced enough to be able to drive for themselves at least the age of sixteen. In the news article, “Making Driving a Federal Matter”, by Laine Picker; he states “ some states minimum age ranges from fourteen years old to fifteen-and-a-half.” He tells us this because even though

teens are overinvolved in crashes because they lack both the judgment that comes with maturity and the skill that comes with experience. The crash rate per mile driven among 16-19 year-olds is 4 times as high as for older drivers. Graduated licensing is designed to delay full licensure while allowing beginners to obtain initial experience under lower-risk conditions. The best systems set 16 as the minimum age to get a learner's permit, and during this period parents certify at least 30-50 hours of supervised driving. The current driving age of sixteen is implemented in almost every state in the United States. Most states have become accustomed to the current driving age, but recently there are certain states that believe that the legal driving age should be raised due to various reasons. The main argument for most states is that sixteen-year old’s are not mature enough and lack the preparation to handle the responsibility to drive safely. Teenagers under the age of eighteen should be required to wait longer to get their license and should be more prepared before getting their license.

I feel this is due to teens waiting till they're 18 to get license to not having to go though getting a provisional license which makes them less experienced to teens who have been driving for the last 2 years and accounts for 18 to 19 year olds having more accidents than 16 to 17 year olds. I feel a way to lower incidents of crashes in 18 to 19 year old teens is to shorten the time it takes to get a provisional license but make it more difficult in the tests. Also I feel states nationwide shouldn’t allow insurances to make getting insurance so costly. I feel many teens don’t get their provisional license because of the amount of time it takes and how expensive it is to start

Teens should not be permitted to drive until they are 18 years old. They should be able to drive on a temporary permit when they are 16 years old and use it until they turn 18 years old. This permit would allow them to drive only during daylight hours and with a parent/guardian. This would enable the young drivers to become more experienced. The eight hours of drivers training with your instructor is not enough. These teens need to get a feel for the road and learn to drive defensively. If you do not know how to operate a vehicle responsibly, it could be used as a deadly weapon. These young drivers are hurting themselves and other innocent people, because of their lack of experience and their irresponsibility.
