On or about Tuesday, 8 Nov 2016, you failed to be at your appointed place of duty, our morning formation in front of Bldg 680 at 0630, when I showed and knocked on your room you told me that you overslept due to the medication that you are on. From logging my food on myfitnesspal for five consecutive days, I have concluded heaps of information about not only my eating and lifestyle habits, but also the habits of our society. During the time period that I have logged my food for each meal, I have been very busy. Something that I concluded from this process though, is that the days that I was less busy I ate much healthier than the days that I was overly busy. I do think that it is extremely important to understand what exactly you are putting in your body and how this affects your body. By logging my food, I had the opportunity to really learn and understand these things. Collecting this data really affects health and medicine for many reasons. For instance, it seemed like the days that I ate a little bit healthier or exercised, not only was my health was better but I felt better. The days that I did not eat healthy whatsoever my attitude tended to be more negative. Since I recorded my food for five days, I have concluded that due to our fast paced society, fast, easy, and unhealthy food is what we turn to. Today the Army is an organization that closely manages every penny spent to avoid what it considers wasteful spending on inefficient practices. Across the board, within the scope of Army activities exist many practices that are wasteful and take money from other areas of necessity. Medical treatment by way of medical appointments is one such process that has had to undergo a shift in practice as medical appointment failures have risen during intense budget constraints. As an Army major command (MACOM), the medical command (MEDCOM) has worked to convey that all sites where medical facilities exist are all echoing the same message across the board to change the mentality towards missing appointments. Maintaining discipline is also an important leadership value. A command climate allowing soldiers to bend and stretch rules will in war lose a unified culture. Finally, it is imperative with a clear commander`s intent. When the operational approach and the end state turns blurry, the border between right and wrong, murder and killing, becomes blurry as well.

This is not something that can be swayed; a leader must have a strong moral and ethical code. In the Army this is best exemplified in the seven army values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Leaders must adhere to the army code of value and bear true faith and alliance to the organization and the constitution which it represents. They must understand and fulfill professional, legal, and moral obligations to their fellow subordinate soldiers while maintaining dignity, consideration, and fairness. Leaders are bound to do what is right legally and morally and are to be honest in both their words and actions. In the process of exhibiting these traits and characteristics, soldier leaders place the welfare of others and the organization before their own and are not wavered in the face of danger and adversity.

Respect can either bring a unit moral up or disrespect can bring the moral of the unit down. Respect is a word that holds a lot of weight with people. I have looked up respect but I have taken respect from the army value and broke it down into little pieces. Treat people as they should be treated. This part of respect is the backbone to me and is a very important part in the army. By treating people as they should be treated is what keeps us as soldiers and senior leader’s level. Yes, we do have to understand that there is a rank structure but we also need to know that we are people to.

According to FORSCOM G8, "Army leaders honor everyone’s individual worth by treating all people with dignity and respect. The leader who feels and gives the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them regard for himself. While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect toward others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself. Respect for the individual forms the basis for the rule of law, the very essence of what makes America. In the Army, respect means recognizing and appreciating the inherent dignity and worth of all people. This value reminds you that your people are your greatest resource."

The concept that I believe to be the most important to me is the Discipline Model. The reason the Discipline Model is important to me is that it works on many levels and can actually help to keep a troubled Airmen away from poor decisions that could destroy their carrier. From Course 15 prevention being the first stage states “ setting clear standards, establishing rapport and establishing a climate of accountability”, what these key actions mean to me is being that supervisor who takes the time to understand the Airmen or peers that I am either in charge of or work along with. Being a good troop for my supervisor means that I need to show them I have that accountability and are able to uphold the standards that are given to me.

Consistency: Every Soldier deserves respect and candid leadership. Favoritism and ostracism are damaging to morale and productivity. Clear and concise expectations and standards give Soldiers a foundation to build on.

Where to start, lets see discipline in the military from the beginning to now. Well from the start of the civil war the military was not as it is now. Then solders was a solder 24-7 back then, and the only time they had to them self was when the war was over. Now, we still solders 24-7 but we have more personel time to deal with familys and to start a family. But that is up to the solder, anyway over the years the military had to change to keep the morale up in the military. Leadership, accountability, efficiency, morale, and a sense of order all depend upon your chain of command. Why it is important to follow proper instruction procedures in the military is for many reasons. As military personnel, it is our responsibility to not only follow instruction/orders, but to execute the command. Not following orders can result into consequences not only for the personnel whom committed not following instructions, but also it can put others at risk too. Like your NCO in charge of you, to your Team Leader, to your Platoon Sergeant, to your 1st Sergeant, to your Company Commander, to your Brigade Commander, and so on. Not only can your NCO in charge of you, your Team Leader, your Platoon Sergeant, your 1st Sergeant, your Company Commander, and your Brigade Commander could all get into trouble for your actions of not following direct instructions/orders. But some may lose rank in the process including the personnel whom didn’t follow the specific instructions/orders giving by a personnel higher rank than those individual personnel. Also when you are down range deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, and other combat places we have our units fighting the war at, not only can a personnel lose rank but in fact not following directions/orders you could get a personnel fighting alongside of you in the war killed in combat but you as well.
