Death Penalty Vs. Life Without The Possibility Of Parole

Not only is the death penalty unfair in terms of race, background, or mental state, but it also unfair in terms of the cost it brings to the nation. The death penalty is really expensive. It is even more expensive than life without parole since the Constitution requires a long and complex judicial process for capital cases. This process is needed in order to ensure that innocent men and women are not executed for crimes they did not commit (however, even with these protections, the risk of executing an innocent person can not be completely eliminated). “If the death penalty was replaced with a sentence of Life Without the Possibility of Parole, which costs millions less and also ensures that the public is protected while eliminating the risk …show more content…

The fact that the punishment is so cruel really makes the death penalty worthy of fear, a human’s most darkest emotion. Once a minority is convicted, their case has practically already been settled since people of poor backgrounds do not get the competent lawyer they need to even fight against their case. For example, in every state that retains the death penalty, jurors have the option of sentencing convicted capital murderers to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Unlike the death penalty, a sentence of Life Without Parole also allows mistakes to be corrected, since you do not have time to reflect on your act once you die. It is much more effective and ethical since we do not have to taint blood on those who execute others with the people they are forced to
