Competency Statement V To insure a well-run, purposeful program responsive to participant needs Functional Area 12 It is important to ensure that we meet the need of the students on every level. One effective way to do this is to observe, assess, and record children’s efforts and progress. In this way, an educator can prepare to help a child’s progression in the class. Being able to track and refer to the progress of a child helps to ensure greater levels of success. In the end, our program is only as successful as the children in our care. Record keeping can identify areas that need improvement, and allows us to teach to their strong points. I believe that, to ensure a well-run program responsive that is to participant needs, developmentally-appropriate materials are of the utmost importance. All members of the staff must act as professionals while at work, especially with young children. The administrative and teaching staff must work together to ensure their practices are developmentally appropriate, and share new and/or creative ideas with one another. It is also the responsibility of a teacher to establish an open, trusting relationship with the parents of each children in their care. Thus, parents can freely communicate their thoughts, concerns, and/or suggestions about their child or the program. It is important that when Observing and recording you of selecting the appropriate method to suit desired aim of the observation it. We do observations to help look at the different areas of development i.e. physical, intellectual, emotional, and social.

Through my entry level position at the Campus Preschool, I anticipated that would figure out how to function with children of differing instructive levels. I have communicated with children before, however never have I invested energy this much time with them. I additionally anticipated that would perceive my own capacity to really have the capacity to work with youthful children in an instructive setting. I was apprehensive at first to work with four-year old's, so I figured this entry level position would enable me to get through those obstructions and give myself that certainty I required. To monitor children’s development, schools use formal testing - SATS as well as internal school tests which record a child’s academic attainment and intellectualdevelopment. As a teaching assistant I may be asked to observe a child whose development is causing concern and feedback to the teacher. I would always record information and feed back to parents about the outcome of our findings via the teacher. Observations of test results would be compared against the expected norms and milestones of developmental age statistics. I would use feedback from parents to then check with class teacher, who would discuss with others involved within school. They would look if any further action or interventions were required which I would implement as advised by teaching staff.

In regards to my current assignment as a Combat Instructor, some of the major accomplishments I’ve attained are serving as both a platoon sergeant and a platoon commander for Golf Company. Serving as a platoon sergeant allowed me to bridge the gap between the instructors and the platoon commanders/head shed. Serving as a platoon commander has allowed me to develop more as not only a SNCO, but also as a Marine and give valuable input to the commanding officer in his decision making abilities.
This paragraph aims to provide information about my target child strategy to monitor specific skills. His name is Jayden who is 2-year-olds. That was a wonderful time to observe him in his physical development. The objective of the observation is to provide information about what my target child can and cannot do in his physical development. The method that I have used is observation checklist. That can help use that information to set goals for the target child and plan activities that help for the child's progress.

Listening to my presentation it became aware to myself that I was pretty narrowed down and on topic, with the topic, I chose to speak about. I threw out a question to get the audience’s attention to get them involved. When I said that rhetorical type of question I needed the audience to get a mindset of what my presentation would be about instead of getting into a blank mindset. I made sure that the introduction seemed interesting if you wanted to succeed in the real world of business. In this Category, I gave myself a 5 for the involvement of the audience and the approach to the listeners.
I have a better understanding of why observations and assessments are performed on a regular basis. Although, I have been writing anecdotal recordings for a while, this class has given me a clearer understanding of how they can benefit teachers, parents, and specialists, by giving a more accurate picture of a child's performance in different developmental areas. This class has also put words and descriptions to what I have been doing on a daily basis. For instance, I have a better understanding of how to use different types of anecdotal recordings to monitor each individual child's development process. Through the use of written, pictorial, and video documentation, I will acquire a better understanding of each individual child and their learning
Observation is something that educators do carefully to gain information about young children. Documentation is the process of collecting evidence that serves as a record. When teachers observe the young children, it provides the information that the teachers need to build relationships with individual children and enable them to be successful learners.
