The Zhou dynasty lasted from about 1045 to 256 B.C.E. They claimed to be given the mandate of heaven to justify overthrowing the Shang. Under the Zhou many different kinds of ruling took place. During feudalism the king gave his most trust worthy subjects called lords chunk of land to rule over. Feudalism worked for China until somewhere in the 700s B.C.E. When the power hungry lords stated to rival the king. Then the Chinese switched to confucianism. Confucius wanted men to work in fair and honest government. In Confucianism there were five basic relationships. The lower one must respect and obey the higher one. In exchange the higher one must always set a good example. Taoism's encouraged rulers to be strict but not harsh. Taoism's
During the Zhou Dynasty, there were mant developments, and how and why those develpoments happened. There was also many changes and continuities that was caused because of these additions. Some developments were that supporters supported a central governmentwith tax revenues amd troops. This development happened because since large estates were too big, they were controlled by family members/ supportters of the emperor. These supporters lacked cintrol of their territory which
Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism were the three main philosophies in ancient China for a form of government. I state that Daoism is the most effective form of government because it is based around balance: balance in nature and opposites of the universe. Daoism has the highest number of followers at around 20 million people among the three philosophies. Daoism is concerned with helping people live in harmony with their self.
Ancient China has three philosophies: Confucianism, Legalism, and Daoism. These three philosophies explain how people should behave and how the government should rule the people. The philosophies were guidelines to the people. Confucianism, Legalism, and Daoism have different values, beliefs, and ideas of what is important and expected, but the main goal is to work towards peace and harmony. These cultures are the same way in being rewarded due to their actions, but different in government regulation because of the people in command.
Although Daoism believes in modesty, and Confucianism emphasizes honesty, ruling a kingdom effectively during a time of turmoil requires sovereignty. Legalism is a system of pure power that demands restraint and discipline with an emphasis on strict laws. Daoism maintains the balance of nature and embrace harmony by utilizing “The Dao.” Confucianism highlights virtues and morality wanting people to become The Superior Man. For an East Asian Kingdom plagued by famine, war, and civil unrest, Legalism would bring order to the Kingdom by a centralized and powerful government, strict laws that govern the people, and once peace ensues, a secure economy.
The Han Dynasty of Ancient China was one of the most prominent and long lasting societies of the time. However, they were not untouched by the ravages of the world, and despite their Confucius roots, there was a war to be fought. The Salt and Iron debate is an example of how the Confucianism of the time affected the strategy of the war. Should the government stick to their principles, or protect their empire? When is the time to say “enough is enough”?
Since the Qin dynasty the classical Chinese Empire include a central government ran by a king or emperor commonly through a dynasty and provincial bureaucracies. During the Han dynasty when Confucianism was accepted as a main political structure, it changed and furthermore supported the Chinese governmental bodies of order. In Confucian philosophy, the idea of a bureaucracy was supported. Instead of having a bureaucracy with a collection of people with common political goals, Confucianism turned the bureaucracy to a collection of people with common political standards. Confucianism clearly heavily affected the bureaucracy that the civil service tests massively stressed Confucius thoughts. Also the emperor was also changed through Confucianism. Emperors through Confucianism could not kill, be brutal, and had to rule and be chosen by
The Zhou is divided into the Western Zhou (c.1050-771 BCE) and the Eastern Zhou (770-221 BCE). The creation of many states during the Western Zhou was a process by which a unified elite culture spread all over North China. Similar to the Shang, the Zhou kings offered themselves to their ancestors along with Heaven. The Mandate of Heaven is said to be created by the early Zhou leaders due to the cruelty of the past Shang king. Because of the Mandate of Heaven, the kings were referred to as the Sons of God.
Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism are the three schools of thoughts, which were created around 4 B.C.E and 6 B.C.E. Confucianism is a system based on moral, ethical, and political order in society. Daoism is a system that lived in harmony with nature, and devoted their time and energy in introspection and reflection. Finally, Legalism is a system of practical and ruthless efficient approach to statecraft. In my opinion the most efficient way to end a political and social order is by using the system of Confucianism.
In china there has been no central rule in China for 70 years until the Song Dynasty created in 960. Things started to change in China, for example, the government started to aid the poor a lot more than what they have in the past. They were getting this money from the newly introduced income tax. This made a lot of people happy and everyone started to have more patriotism and pride. This pride gave the government a feel of legitimacy. Some of the major things the government is paying for is the roads, food, and education. Pottery at this time helps out the economy in China, because the pottery is so advanced that it was being exported for good money and it also led more people to come to China. Even though China was number one in the world for many things like technology and a sophisticated culture they were weak military wise (Holcombe p.127).

hereditary things. For instance, Guangdong is spoken to by chenpi, matured ginger and hay. Others incorporate antiquated urban communities like Lin'an (Hangzhou), which incorporate tealeaf, bamboo shoot trunk, and hickory nut. Such qualifications offer ascent to the old Chinese saying: actually "the praxis shift inside ten li, traditions change inside a hundred.
Confucius found the vinegar sour very alike like he saw the world, full of degenerate people in the world, and Buddha found it bitter very alike like the world he saw full of suffering people but Lao Tzu found it sweet as he looked at the world with its seeming discord and look for the underlying harmony that guides it by the
Confucianism is regarded as one of the primary religions that have profoundly influenced Chinese beliefs and ideologies. While Kongzi, or Confucius, is the founder of Confucianism, he is not the only philosopher who has contributed to such a significant impact on China. Similarly, the Analects of Confucius is not the single text that represents Confucianism. In fact, during different time periods throughout the history, there are a number of eminent representatives of Confucian thoughts, such as Mengzi and Xunzi. Because Confucianism aims at eliminating chaos and maintaining order in a harmonious society , they all agree that the guidance and education of virtuous Confucian pioneers are of extreme importance to achieve this
Confucianism is a time enduring philosophy that has stood up to invading clans, war, resentment, enforcement and infringement of new philosophies, and eventually, revival. For almost 80 years, up until the late 1970’s, Confucianism and its ideas and values have been all but wiped away from China. Though effort was made to remove Confucianism for good from China by the Communist leader Mao Zedong in 1949, the ideas and values were so deeply embedded into peoples mind and the culture that even suppression could not keep it out of the culture and practices. The main factor that has brought Confucianism back into the limelight in China and other East Asian countries is the recent
A young girl sits down at her church, ready to pray for her god, known as The Holy Trinity. She worships Christianism, the belief that Jesus is a Holy God. This may seem much different from from something like Confucianism, in which the members study teachings from Confucius, but it has similarities. Every religion, whether it be Hinduism, Buddhism, or Confucianism from the east, or Christianity, Judaism, or Islam from the west, have similarities as well as differences.
