To be early, is to be on time, to be on time, is to be late, and to be late, is out of the question. Being able to adhere to a given deadline in a group situation, demonstrates responsibility, time management, group cohesion, and progress. However, being that a group is a collection of individuals with separate lives, there are times when members of the group may be experiencing extenuating circumstances preventing the group from completing a task on time. In such a scenario, communication within the chain of command is essential. Failing to communicate problems that may arise, and inhibit group progression towards a task will result in failure to communicate the task, group division, distrust between the chain of command and the group, …show more content…
In a military situation, lack of communication can result in the loss of lives, or failure to accomplish a goal as the power and upper hand is now in the hands of the force that was better prepared. In our specific situation, failing to communicate issues that arise prior to assignment completion will make the group ill prepared to deal with the burden of new assignments, and lead us subject to punishment at any time. The constant threat of punishment, or attack from a lack of communication leads the group to be in a disorganized state and make careless mistakes out of emotion. Secondly, communicating an issue prior to a deadline develops trust between a group and those in charge of the group. In the military this is very apparent. In fact, the United States Marine Corps has a whole sector of marines who are trained in a skillset called communications. Comm. Marines sole task to relay, and update information between Marines on a mission and the chain of command. The Marines on the mission develop trust and reliance amongst each other because they know that should they lose the upper hand in battle, communication Marines can relay this information and call in reinforcements to take back the fight, and allow the ground Marines to continue their mission. In a group scenario such as ours, trust is essential to group development and progress. If we are given an assignment, and a group member tells us at the last minute they are unable to help, the rest of the
Explain the importance of giving team members the opportunity to discuss work progress and any issues arising
November 10, 1775, is revered as being the Marine Corps birthday, and its birthplace being at Tun Tavern, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern, to establish two battalions of Continental Marines, under the command of Cpt. Samuel Nicholas, as an amphibious fighting force who would later in March of 1776, participate in their first foreign raid, in the Bahamas (www.globalsecurity.org ). After the Treaty of Paris
I'm still alive, but barely breathing. Lying with my stomach on the ground, cover with plants ready to shoot in this suicide mission. All by myself praying to God, even though I know I'm not going to be able to come back alive. But what I'm supposed to do when the best part of me was always you? I have nothing left. I just wish it wasn't over, but wishing is not enough.
The importance of being on time in the military (or anywhere at all), is simply a symptom of discipline, which was instilled in new enlisted soldiers during basic training. Being on time shows reliability. We have to show discipline, responsibility, show care through following military rules and regulations. Being on time not only pertains to accountability, but shows respect to our fellow soldiers, our unit, command and organization as a whole. Being on time also will avoid any disciplinary actions that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Being on time may have a greater importance and effect, than we may know. Being on time enables us to be able to trust and rely on each other in life and death situations. Last but not least, it
It is important to be on time, both in the Army and in the civilian sector, for multiple reasons. Among these reasons, the ones that stand out to me the most are unprofessionalism, being fired, receiving adverse disciplinary actions, and failing your co-workers/comrades. Being late or tardy to work can cause not only yourself but everyone at your place of employment problems.
Although it is very important to communicate during war time it is equally important to communicate properly in a garrison environment as well. When is a garrison environment the leading cause of death is automobile accidents. The US Army communicates safety to stay mission capable at all times. We as Soldiers go through many classes about safety in the form of safety briefs. These briefs communicate to the Soldiers how important it is to do the right things at all times and to fallow the Army Values. These briefs are informative and essential to the mission at hand. Communicating about safety and other policies helps to
In the beginning of the group assignment we faced a couple of challenges in regards to schedules for meeting times and the proper communication tool to use. After a couple of emails, one of our team members created an account using Doodle to input our availability and find the perfect time for all team members. In addition, we had to find the proper way to communicate that would be great for all team members, after email discussion, found a group chat website that we could all sign in to and save our conversations to keep track of what we agreed on.
Increasing communication – team have to meet as often as possible to discuss issues of concern. Team has to clearly define methods and channels of communication to ensure that the right information is available at the right time, in the right form through the right channel for effective use and feed backs give timely.
The establishment of how to communicate with each other was vital and instrumental in being able to stay on task and get our assignments completed in a timely manner. Several of our team members will play devil’s advocate to make sure the directions we are given are clearly followed. The group individuals have demonstrated different talents during being a group and we have all just in consensus (without speaking it) allow that person to take over the portion they are expedited in. For example, Cintia is great at graphics she’s demonstrated a talent for using different software creating eye catching graphics to our projects, therefore the group knows that Cintia will take that portion of the task on if it’s
The Civil War was very hard on families, causing most of them to sacrifice people in their families, most families had all of the young men in their family taken out of their jobs on farms and factories. This left the women and children to tend to the large farms and hold the weight of the house. Also, since the demand for supplies for the war increased it created more jobs for the people to fill which forced more people into labor. It also effected families personally, having their sons/brothers in war was constantly nerve racking and scary, every day they were constantly dreading receiving any news or letters, fearing the life of their family members.
Accountability also goes hand in hand with the topic at hand. The liability of the Soldier is of extreme importance. For every component of his everyday and war time duties depend on his level of accountability. Which ranges from: being on time for the first formation of the day in garrison, being on time to relieve a fellow Soldier from his post, or being on time to provide critical reinforcements for a battle weakened and compromised force. As the theory goes, how one trains is how one fights. Using this logic one can only come to the conclusion that if a Soldier isn't on time how can he save and protect the lives of his brothers in arms? The answer is simple, he can't. He can't be depended upon if he isn't disciplined enough to be on time every time he is ordered. He also weakens the combat readiness of his platoon if he isn't at the right place at the right time. For example a HMMWV cannot roll out of the base to complete a mission if the gunner isn't manning the turret, locked and loaded. That will be a no-go each and every time.
You let your co-workers/battle buddies down when you do not show up on time to work. When you fail to show up on time you are causing your peers to have to do your work as well as their own. This can cause the mission for the day to be slowed down dramatically. When the mission is slowed down this can cause your leaders to fail at meeting deadlines that may be needed to be met at a specific time in order to meet other deadlines. Showing up late can not only hurt you but it can also hurt your co-workers. People are forced to wait on you and slow down the work day. Having your battle buddies on your side is a very important thing. These are people that you have to be able to depend on no matter what. If you cant depend on someone to be on time for work, it will be extremely hard to depend on them for other things as
At the same time, being on time may influence substantially interpersonal relations and it is a perfect characteristic of an individual. In this respect it should be said that if a person is late, it is a bit irritating, but if he/she is late regularly, than it is quite a disturbing fact. On the one hand, it proves that this person do not really respect those people who are waiting for him/her. On the other hand, it proves that this person is absolutely irresponsible because being late means that the person is unable to do his/her duties well. In contrast, being on time proves that the person is highly responsible and is ready to fulfill his/her duty without delay.
Missing a layer of management that might contribute to poorer communication. Getting messages all the way to the frontline is a challenge.
When doing so the other group members were active listener, by using their whole body verbally and nonverbal. Like facing the speaker and giving eye contact and try to avoided interruption. The group also acknowledges the thoughts of the speaker by giving constructive feed back. Due to the effectiveness of the group communication, we were able to build trust, respect and understand the issues and make decision for effective change. We illustrate this by coming together as a group one again to accomplish the goal we initially wanted to accomplish. Since the first organization that we had chosen was incorrect, so we had to make the necessary changes to accomplish our goals. The other effective feature is the purpose of the group. Kozier et al (2010) stated that the effective group purpose is when “goal, task, and outcomes are clarified. Understanding and modified so that members of the group can commit themselves to purposes through cooperation” (p.401). For instance, each individual was assign a task and knew what was to be accomplished. As group we all decided to meet at suitable day and time which was beneficial to all team members, because we could commit to the group and focus on what needed to be achieved.
