Throughout my childhood and up into my middle school years, I had a solid plan for my life: to be an air traffic controller. It seemed like the perfect career for me. I am a highly organized and alert person. I like structure and to have control over the situations that surround me. And, most importantly, I find great satisfaction in helping others to meet their objectives and safely land at their desired destination. Air traffic control was the only career for me. I had my whole life planned out, including the exact airport where I would work. No one or nothing could sway me from the goals that I had set for myself.

A college education will take me many places and open up many career opportunities for me. Without a college education, I would not be prepared for the cruel world. Going to college will help me develop the skills that are essential to be successful in this world. The motto that pushes me to get through my day is “you only get out what you put in”. Throughout my time in college, I have learned more about myself, and who I truly am. By keeping myself involved on campus, I have made connections and have built relationships with my peers. After my time at Kansas State University, my goal is to become a physical therapist because it will allow me to help make an impact on others. Without a college education I would be stopping myself from achieving my goals.

I was raised in a military household; both of my parents were in the U.S. Navy. Growing up I was taught proper discipline, a sense of order, and a firm belief in right and wrong. These skills allowed me to be able to conduct my life with a sense of purpose and gave me the confidence to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I myself spent 5 years in the U.S. Navy and I am definitely a better person for it. Generally, as children grow older, they tend to imagine which career path they will follow as adults.  However, what much of today's youth fails to grasp is the importance of overcoming all seemingly unsurmountable obstacles in their education in order to reach their career aspirations.  Overall, my high school career consisted of spending countless nights and endless hours working diligently toward success in highly advanced classes in which I could have never imagined myself excelling.  Following many years considering which path I would take next in my education, my decision to become a diagnostic medical sonographer seemed effortless and suiting for my personality.  In retrospect, I now realize that, if it hadn't been for the guidance of many wonderful, influential people I have known and prospered from as a result, I would not be the driven, analytic person I am today.  All in all, I have come to realize the most influential factor in my decision to become a sonographer, as well as in my strive toward personal success, can only be owed to none other than the guidance of my wise mother.

I am from a middle-class family originally from Nigeria, I moved to Chicago to better education. I have been extremely lucky to experience diverse cultures and ways of life, and in my own way I have been able to incorporate that in my daily life. My family also made it clear that education would be my ticket to survival later in life. I have seen education not only as a means to survival but as medium, to change the world. With my license, I can pay my way through school with no worry. However, my time isn't only dedicated to my clients.
