Executive Summary
This aim of this document was to provide a summary and definition of the concept of Information Systems and contrast the subject against Information Technology. As part of this I have defined systems and I then have offered some brief commentary on how IS has changed over the last hundred years or so.
Following this I have provided two data flow diagrams for a ticket ordering system that may be used

Systems can be referred to as structures and methodologies for the storing, processing usage and distribution of data - such systems have been in place for many years. In the 2013 paper titled “Work System Theory: Overview of Core Concepts, Extensions, and Challenges for the Future” by Steven Alter, he revisited his previous works on work system theory and in this work he published the following definition of “system” – “A work system is a system in which human participants and/or machines perform work (processes and activities) using information, technology, and other resources to produce specific products/services for specific internal and/or external …show more content…
Generally speaking it is the hardware and software associated with the IS platform – this could also be referred to as Infrastructure. Many business confuse the term and see that a businesses IS function is all about the technology infrastructure – this is not strictly correct - Information systems is about getting the data and information to managers to enable them to make key business decisions – Information Technology is an enabler of IS.
With the advent of modern information technology, the focus of IS has been generally skewed …

Figure 1 below represents the context-level data flow diagram for a ticketing fulfilment system that may be used by a leading sporting organisation such as the AFL; Figure 1 - Context-level data flow diagram Figure 2 below represents a level 1 diagram showing the various functions of the
2. Draw a system diagram showing the processes and information flows (and product flow) between WGD and Fast-Fit starting when Fast-Fit places an order until payment is made. This diagram will have two processes/systems (circles in the diagram) and five arrows/flows with the labels on the arrows. Put Fast Fit on the left and WGD on the right.
Information system is a combination of hardware, software, infrastructure as well trained personnel who organized and facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision making within an organization. Information systems are also able to implement a vital integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data. With this, it provided organizations with the necessary information, knowledge, and digital products needed. Information system bring the meaning of business applications that manage their operations, compete in the market place, manage accounts and human resources. This system have a vast variety of components that are crucial for a enterprise, business to function at his highest level, IT software is responsible that all system are reliable and up to date.
This report will cover the way by which the E-ticketing company can be organized and focuses on the identification of the stakeholders which are involved in this case study, and gives a smooth flow of the relationships among them and responsibilities of each stakeholder.
As the information system is designed, implementation decisions describing how the system will work are made. Data flow diagrams offer those implementation details, including data stores that refer to files and database tables, programs and human actions that perform processes. The automated parts of the system are differentiated from the manual parts by the human-machine boundary (Dennis, Wixom,

By looking at the flow diagram above we can see that there are seven entities required in order to operate the database system accordingly to meet our specified criteria. The entities are as follows.
The work entitled "Challenges and Reflections on Knowledge Society & Sociotechnical Systems" reports that information technology (IT) is redefining the business basis" and that "customer attendance, operations, product strategies, marketing and distribution and even the society of knowledge depend sometimes even totally on Information System (IS)." (Balloni, 2010, p.21) The implementation of a new technology has been associated with problems that are "often linked to resistance by the work force and failure to achieve the expected benefits." (Balloni, 2010, p.21) Balloni (2010) reports that there must be a fit between the 'technical' and 'social' system, which form the organization. This means that business strategy, rules and processes determine the type of software and subsequently the type of hardware, database, and telecommunications system needed by the organization. The social system is comprised by the organization's
The Execution section handles the actual flow of material, products, and services. Included in that is the informational and financial flow of things in and out of the company. The Performance section focuses on all the decision-making process along all of the supply Chains. This software also offers a lot of training for using the software; there is IFS eLearning, Web-Based Training, Classroom Training, Informational Webcasts and Customized Training, all made to help the user work well with the software. This software package is built for a medium to large organization (101- 2000+).
This report provides a brief of the existing system and the possible upgrading options for the Spring Breaks ‘R’ Us Travel Service.
Data Flow Modelling – This is the process of modelling and recording how data flows around a system. A Data Flow Model is made up of connected Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) which are supported by appropriate documentation. DFDs represent the processes and functions within a system (activates that transform data from one form to another), data stores (file storage, external entities (things that send data into a system or receive data from a system) and finally data flows (show the flow of data around the system).
An information system is a base in today’s business world. Everything is electronic. In various businesses, the survival and ability to succeed strategic business goals is challenging without extensive use of information system. Businesses improve the efficiency of their operations in order to accomplish higher profitablity. Besides that, information systems are important tools available to managers for achieving higher levels of efficiency and productiviy in business operations. For an example, Zara uses the PDA technology to gather customer feedback and input.
CHANGE is the only constant in the relationship between information systems and organizations. As technology evolves and changes, its introduction into organizations requires changes in the firm 's infrastructure and the services it can provide to its employees, customers, and suppliers.
Information Technology (IT): The hardware and software technologies a firm needs to achieve its business objectives (Kenneth C Laudon and Jane P Laudon., 2010).
This module maintains the data about routes between stations and This module handle the routes tables and fields are route-id, starting-station, destination, timetakenforordinary, and timetakenforexpress. The module shows the graphical representation of a route between starting-station and destination.
There are very many types of information systems. Classification of information systems follows the organizational levels in which they are used or installed for use. For instance, there are management information systems; some of which will be covered in this project report. Management information systems (MIS), helps businesses meet their business objectives. Almost all organizations and businesses today use management information systems; be it large, small, startup or an established multi-national. This is for the sole reason that information systems have evolved from just being a tool to gain competitive advantage for businesses, to a vital tool, a necessity in the digital age we live in. Management Information Systems help managers make better-informed decisions and communicate with their superiors, as well as with all the stakeholders in the businesses their organizations are involved in.
