Of the many theorists that have had the opportunity to make immense contributions to the human race regarding behavioral sciences, theorist Erick Erickson and Abraham Maslow are the two that I believe set the framework of understanding my adult stages of life. According to Feldman (2014), Erik Erickson’s intimacy vs. isolation stage commences from age 18 through forty. During this stage of development, individuals actively are seeking to be intimately involved with others. Adults are attempting to explore and develop relationships that have the potential to be life-long. The neighborhoods we were raised in was notorious for gang violence and illegal drug sells. In fact, my brother and I were constantly being challenged by the individuals in our neighborhood to either engage in physical altercations or be labeled a coward. My mother was a hard worker, as she maintained three forms of employment; however, that would still not be enough for us to survive. I can remember standing in the welfare line with my mother as we were a family in need of government assistance such as food and insurance. I can remember going to stores for my mother and ripping out the food stamps money from the brown paper booklet to pay for groceries. It was then that I realized when I had the opportunity to raise my own family, I knew what I did not want my children to go through. With that being said, my wife and I came to the agreement that I must obtain different employment, and so I did. As I worked full-time in the industrial field, my wife went to school to earn her undergraduate's degree. Now our single income home became a dual income home, and my wife and I obtained employment for the County of Kern. There are many benefits to be a County of Kern employee, such as having paid holidays, compensation, sick leave, and vacation pay. This is something that my family and I can get accustomed to because now my wife and I have consistent work and the ability to take time off from work to attend our children’s school functions. Obtaining employment with County of Kern was a significant stress reliever for my wife and me because, for the majority of our marriage, we struggled financially. “I know”, talkative, and energetic are three words that describe my five year old nephew, Landon. First, let me tell you a little bit about him and his family! Landon is an only child that lives in a development with a lot of other children. His mother, Jessica, travels for work and is gone most weekends and some week days too. Kyle, his father, is a car salesman and works long days. Landon is often dropped off at daycare by one of his parents and then taken care of after kindergarten by a babysitter. At home he also has three dogs and is very interested in playing baseball.
I observed a classroom of four-year-old students who are enrolled at the Child Development Center on the George Mason University campus. This observation lasted about fifteen minutes with a total of twelve students in the classroom. At the time of my observation the students were engaging in free playtime where they are allowed to play games, make crafts, and interact with their fellow classmates. I was seated in the corner of the classroom where the children could not easily see me or get distracted by me. I stayed seated throughout the whole observation so the students would not be affected by my presence. The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The reason I chose the school, was because I remember seeing him happy every time he came home from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy’s* (not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and inviting. My visitation was in the morning, right when the children began school at 8:00am. When I walked inside, the class room was baby blue with all kinds of art projects on the walls. For this assignment, I observed my six year old niece, Faustine Bui who was born on August 16, 2007, at the park where I was babysitting her with her mom for approximately thirty minutes. The park I observed her at is packed with children and dogs are allowed. There is a large play area with jungle-jims and slide and it includes a sandy area which has a variety of playing equipment as well.
For my observation assignment I chose Sam, a four-year-old boy who stays in my class for the aftercare program. I have worked with Sam previously in the camp last summer and became aware of his challenging behavior.
Observation is very important in young children because that is how you get to know a child better. While observing how a child interacts with their peers, adults, and how they behave in different settings, you are getting to know the child without speaking to them.
This study is intended to document my observation of a child between the ages of 2-5. The small child I observed is a 4 years old male. Family arrangements consist of the mother being the primary caregiver of her son. Since the child is not old enough to consent to my amateur study, I have received permission from the mother and father. The method used in this clinical report is a naturistic observation in which I went to the family’s household where I recorded his behavior for an hour.
Infants move through stages that allow them to make increasing varieties of sounds such as cooing, babbling, laughing, and advanced babbling. Understanding infants sound production is very important because use sounds to communicate. Language is taught as conversation. In order to be developmentally appropriate for infants, the environment for infants, cognitive, language, and literacy development the caregiver need to have specific ways to talk. The caregiver need to talk a lot to the infants and use a wide vocabulary. When talking, give the infants choices and ask them about things. Interaction with infants is the basis for cognitive development. Infants need to interact with objects and people. Interacting with objects and people will help them explore and add on to their understanding of the world. To encourage words in older infants give then experiences and objects to label. When they point to objects they want, say the name of the object. Creating patterns and labeling the same way each time is the key factors in learning particular contexts.

The child I observed was a seven-year-old girl in Year 2 who sat on the second highest ability table in a mixed class. While not in school, she lived a substantial distance away meaning she travelled to and from school by car and was often the first child to arrive in the morning and the last to leave in the afternoon.
