Throughout history, veterans have suffered after fighting in wars. Millions of veterans were killed and injured. Veterans do not receive all the care they need. Many veterans are currently homeless or suffering due to the fact that the government is not providing enough. Taking care of veterans costs a lot. Healthcare is needed throughout the world. Veterans need healthcare after serving in wars to treat their problems and injuries. Jobs are also important to everyone. Veterans are jobless after fighting in wars. The government continues to attempt helping veterans but it is not enough. The government has a big role in giving veterans care. The money that veterans receive comes from the government. Although the money that veterans receive comes from the government, it is not enough to fulfill the veterans’ needs. There are many organizations and programs for veterans. Phillip Carter explains about how programs are not enough. “Although crisis support--programs for homelessness, addiction, and legal problems--represents a small share of veterans’ benefits, it responds to the acute …show more content…
The amount of money used to care for veterans continues to increase as the years go on. CBO states that “In 2010, VHA spent $1.9 billion to treat 400,000 OCO patients. VHA obligated $4,800 per OCO patient, on average, compared with an average of $8,800 per patient for veterans from all eras who were being treated at VHA.” The amount of money continues to increase in order to care for veteran patients. The more veterans fight in the war the more money it would take to care for all of the veterans. The medical costs associated with VHA’s treatment of OCO veterans could, in CBO’s estimation, total between $40 billion and $55 billion over the 10-year period from 2011 through 2020, depending on the number of military personnel deployed to overseas contingencies in the future and the rate of growth of medical expenditures per
INTRODUCTION: How many people have a Veteran in their family or know one? If yes do you help them or is it someone else’s problem. Well many people think it’s someone else problem, but the truth is it’s our problem.
Throughout history, many veterans suffer after fighting in wars, and millions of veterans have been killed or injured. Veterans do not necessarily get the treatments they deserve without paying a price. Taking care of veterans costs a lot and health care is needed for them. They need health care after serving, in order to treat their problems and injuries. Jobs are also important to veterans because they are jobless after fighting in wars, which leads them to be homeless. It is important for people who need help to get help. As of right now, the government has attempted to help veterans, but it may not be enough.
The main research questions in this study are: 1) is veteran healthcare equal to private healthcare; 2) do veterans have to wait longer for treatment options; and 3) do veterans have limited treatment options? It is hypothesized that veterans receive inferior healthcare services compared to private healthcare and the community is unaware of the disparities.
One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational
Judith Coburn, on her journalist said “The veterans administration (VA), the preceding agency of the Department of Veterans Affairs, will not be able to meet the needs of U.S. veterans,” veterans suffer getting their benefit. Since the Continental Congress of 1776, start proving pensions to all the disabled soldier because they could not be able to work. Upon the time they established news system to benefit to veterans. They three agency that benefit veterans at are Veterans Bureau, the Bureau of pensions of the interior Department, and the National Home for disabled Volunteer soldiers. The United States have a lot of programs to help the veterans but, throughout the country they are a lot of veterans that are are homeless
Much like the people who serve and will ultimately utilize this organization, The Veterans administration (VA) has a set of core values each member of the armed forces live by: integrity, respect, excellence, advocacy and commitment. The VA has always signified a place of hope and security for veterans past and present. For those who serve the expectation is that when they need medical, dental, housing, educational and other assistance the VA would be there. Marred by problems over the years and recently in the media highlighted for long wait times to receive medical attention , bureaucratic red tape to receive the benefits these veterans have earned, some have paid the ultimate price (death) which they expected to happen in some foreign land not at home.
There are a lot scholarly articles online that debate the validity of the VA as a source of funding for veterans, which is one of its primary purposes. Many argue that government already gives extensive
In the United States, Veteran’s health care at an economical rate is a continuous debate. It is warranted that the health care should improve at a constant rate to uphold the health needs of veterans, new and old. Government has the veterans association (VA) and with all the help it has available for veterans there are still times when that care is not enough. There are so many individuals that are without health care because of one reason for another and it leaves many injured and hurt veterans without the care they need and deserve. Better access to health for veterans, men and women is important since many new problems such as PTSD have become better understood and need more focus and to be better
Another issue regarding the VA system is the limitations that is places on the abilities of the private sector to provide aid to Veterans. The private sector of the United States has no access to the files of former members of our military; as a result of this, a Veteran would potentially have to drive hours to get to a VA facility for something as simple as a flu shot. Veterans should be able to enjoy the benefits that they are entitled to without having to go a great distance. This very solution presents yet another conflict: the majority of returning military members are uninformed regarding what it is that they are medically entitled to. There is often far too little communication between VA facilities and Veterans concerning how they
McKinney, Hirsch, & Britton (2017) state that the “disproportionate rate of suicide in the veteran population may be due to various risk factors”, including symptoms of PTSD and depression (p.100). Their study population was comprised of 545 military veterans who completed a Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire indicating a link between higher PTSD related suicide and depression (p. 100). McKinney et al. (2017) found that “Depression, as well as other disorders, often serves as a mediator of the relation between PTSD and suicide risk” (p.101).
Dan Lipinski once stated, “On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.” The Department of Veterans Affairs is run by the government and provides the health care and benefits to former military service men. The VA, short for The Department of Veterans Affairs, should provide more care for United States veterans after the war to ensure their physical and mental health. The VA is taking rights away from veterans due to the lack of funding, along with their inability to be easily accessible, and their minimal number of mental health programs.
Veteran affairs health care programs were established in 1930 to provide ongoing care and rehabilitation to veterans injured during wartime service. Today, the VA provides for a wider range of inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care services to veterans. The VA is now giving treatment to those veterans who have low-income and medical conditions unrelated to military service. Though veterans who have served our country are valued higher than many, there are still many veterans who are not insured and do not have proper access to healthcare. “In fact, just 8.9 million out of the 22 million veterans in the U.S. are enrolled in VA health benefits, which are reserved for those who have been disabled through military service or are very low-income.
Veterans are one of our nation’s most cherished assets. They have put their lives on the line to protect us at home and abroad, but for many veterans, the battle doesn’t end when they leave the combat zone. Fortunately, there are programs in place to assist veterans who are suffering from physical or mental disability, such as lost limbs and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from their service.
For years the government has failed to fund the programs that provide healthcare to Veterans. Many Veterans under sixty-five are without care and, have disability problems and are very sick. The U.S. has great military medical facilities but, they need help getting for medical supplies and, to pay the doctors who work there. The United States government needs to provide more funding for the programs that help the nations cherished Veterans.
Most veterans will find adjusting to civilian life after combat duty is really challenging. Sometimes, they might feel they are still on their duty in a war even when they are already at home. In order to help them to feel better and keep them in a positive mood, family members can play an essential role. Family members of those veterans should be patient, have more conversations with them and show more understanding and appreciation.
