Introduction for the CADH portfolio
In order for the dental hygiene student to graduate they must prepare a portfolio. It must include work done by the student throughout the dental hygiene program, starting at level 1 and ending at level 4.The portfolio should be a reflection of how the student had grown up through the different levels of the program.
The idea for the portfolio was not clear to me at the beginning. I did not know why I should write about the assignments I have done and prepare lists of my client for levels 2, 3, and 4.
All the assignments and the pre-clinic/clinic skills grading sheet aremwith the school, so I asked myself ‘why should a student prepare this portfolio? Is it just more paperwork or is there is a goal behind

I remember every class, clinical session ,assignment, the amount of the work me and my assigned group needed to do, each requirement in this program and the amount of information we had to search, and learnt. All the information related to our assignment was giving me the solid knowledge I needed when communicating with my faculty and clients to be able to be health promoter, educator, communicator, collaborator and allowing me to use my critical thinking in every situation to become a better clinician.
Through the articles I had to read, summarize, and skim to complete the assignment and the courses of continuous education for level 4, I gained information that helped me grow as a clinical therapist and apply the information while treating my clients. One of the most interesting things I learnt was as we were discussing the amount of fluoride the client truly needs and get benefits from this treatment the signs of early caries, the systems on how to document the different stages of the caries.
From level to another the accumulation of knowledge increased, creating a base I could depend

Being a first year student at the Fortis Institute Dental Hygiene School, I have experienced many wonderful things. I have made new friendships, enhancing my learning experience, furthering my career, and my personal favorite experience, clinic. I have learned many techniques from observing the other students during this time. Also, being in the clinic had shown me that being an RDH is what I want to do. In my essay I will discuss my Fears, experiences, observations, my new found confidences, and finally how my view of Dental Hygiene has changed.
A portfolio is an organized, purposeful compilation of evidence documenting a child’s development and learning over time (McAfee, Leong, & Bodrova, 2016, p. 98). I thin k that implementing the Portfolio Plan would definitely contribute to the knowledge that I have already learned from my observation of Camden. After interviewing her mother and observing her, she seems to already be on a good path in her development and learning. I believe that some of the things that I have planned out on the Portfolio Plan would be very beneficial for her.
The student must provide clinical dental hygiene services to patients with all classifications of periodontal disease for eight to twelve hours per week during freshman year and twelve to sixteen hours per week during sophomore year. While in the clinical setting, the student must show competence and include the process of care for the following patients: children, teens, adults, geriatrics and special needs. The competencies include the following: life-long education and knowledge of present research-based publishings, delivery of proper medical services in an emergency situation, ethical rationale and resolution, collecting and understanding patients’ overall health status, evaluating findings in order to incorporate ideal care plans, recognizing the level of success with the patient, and documenting all findings accurately. All of these will show that the hygienist is competent and capable of formulating care plans and managing patients’ health within the community through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating. All of the education, experience and competencies are incorporated to prepare the hygienist for his or her career (Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations,
As much as I loved studying this course, unfortunately due to homesickness I did not enjoy living in Scotland and being so far away from my family and friends has been difficult for me and thus for this reason, I have decided not to continue onto the second year of my degree and returned home to London. This experience has however allowed me to expand my teamworking and communication skills through speaking to patients and building good patient interactions. I also feel that it is important to have a sympathetic and caring nature to be able to help patients. I'm satisfied by impacting positively on those around me and caring for special care groups (young, elderly, and anxious) genuinely rewards my compassionate personality. Undertaking clinical treatment and manually implementing theoretical knowledge in tasks requiring precise dexterity are also components of the course that I enjoyed. My commitment and desire to become a dental hygienist and dental therapist has only been strengthened through this
For this assignment, I will be explaining how my portfolio, meets my target audience and purpose.
Make sure that you spend 1 or 2 blocks for students to choose work to be included in the portfolio. Take a picture of the pieces of work and place them according to your subject.
In this portfolio it will show a range of work that was completed in English 111. You will find a table of contents so you can locate each piece of work easily. There will be a sample of a writing from my religion class that I have previously taken. This writing is a research paper. The reason I chose this sample of writing is because research papers is not one of my strongest papers that I can complete but, this was an easier research paper because of the topic that it was on and I could use any source I wanted to as long as it was not Wikipedia. Also, you will find samples of each writing assignment that was completed in this course: Narration Essay, Comparison/Contrast Essay, and Argumentative Research Essay, along with some revisions
Dear readers, what you are about to see is my portfolio done in SDCC4 class. In this portfolio, you are going to see my 2H and 3B essays, with all the drafts included. Also, an in class reflection and a summary of my grammar log were included too.
I have an internal motivation to improve my clinical and educational skills; I took the opportunity of being in the active learning environment of UBC to attend the Instructional Skills Workshop, a step which I consider one important turning point in this educational
Portfolios have been used to showcase the work of artists, fashion designers, models, photographers and architects, spanning several decades (M.Williams., K.Jordan., 2007) These career portfolios have been adopted in to the nursing profession where they serve as an augmentation but not a replacement of their curriculum vitae (Lettus, 2001). They have not only transcended beyond the traditional listing of basic information such as relevant past work experiences and positions held, educational institutions attended and achievements but provide additional information that resumes would have presented (M.J. Jone., 2007). A professional portfolio is a thoughtfully prepared and organised compilation of different types of professional information and evidence that illustrate an individual’s record of continuing professional development activities, skills, experiences, knowledge, competencies, professional achievements and goals as well as their level of expertise that one has attained as a result of their experiences.’ (Andre & Heartfield, 2011)The basic components of a professional portfolio include personal details, resume and documents such as certificates graduate transcripts, licensure, (Davis, 2015) professional organisation memberships, professional awards, annual performance appraisals, dates of promotions, recommendations from current or previous supervisors or employers, peers and others (Timmins & Duffy, 2011).
Thank you, Sharlene, for this great well written post. I think you provide us a very useful and detailed information about how to make an effective professional portfolio. I totally agree with you that we need to take our time seriously to create our professional portfolio. Creating a professional portfolio needs a lot of effort. We should try our best to show our employer or potential employer that we are serious about the opportunity they offer us.
Although the intent of the portfolio is to focus on my strengths as a professional in the field; I think it also allows the opportunity to showcase other things about myself such as my passion for students, other areas of interest, my personality, things I have been involved in, etc. The ability to tie in a philosophy statement that showcases my beliefs and values and

It is obvious that all of our instructors have a common goal, which is for all of us to learn as much as we possibly can. I honestly think that by allowing as many opportunities as possible to see and experience as much as possible will help us all learn from our clinical experiences.
The thing that surprised me the most about completing this assignment is how easy it is to share my own personal portfolio with others. All I had to do was insert an email and it would send it to that particular recipient. This surprised
