Hatchet I am currently reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. So far in the book the main character Brian has been sent to his dad’s for the summer, but his plane crashes along the way. The pilot dies and Brian is left in the Canadian wilderness and must fend for himself. He has made a shelter, a fire and found food. Brian is very brave, intelligent and resourceful. These qualities will let him survive in the wild. Brian does not have a very good relationship with his mother at the moment. Brian had seen his mother with a man other than his father and it caused a divorce. Throughout the book he repeats the words divorce, The Secret, fights and split often because it’s what bothers him the most. The divorce made Brian very angry and annoyed with his mother because she had been keeping secrets from him. At the start of the book when Brian’s mother is driving him to the airport he does not talk to her or look at her. Brian’s mother doesn’t know what he saw and Brian finds it hard to talk to her about it. Later on, he seems to blame …show more content…
After he crashes, even though he knows things are not going his way he retains a positive attitude and keeps busy. This is a very smart and important move when trying to survive, any doubting will finish you. Brian is very strong mentally because he manages to keep positive after he sees his mother with a man other than his father, his parents divorce, his pilot dies and he gets stranded in the forest. I don’t think most people could cope with all that, I don’t think I could cope well with all that. Not only is he strong mentally but he is also strong physically. After a crash most people would be hurt and discouraged but he is up and moving the next day. He knows to get food, water and a shelter asap. By the third day he had made a proper shelter, a fire for warmth and a fire for signaling, found food and started planning next
Do you think you could survive a plane crash? I read the book Hatchet and the main character did just that. After the plane crash Brian went through more obstacles but he has survived all of them. One of them was getting attacked by a moose and right after that he got hit by a tornado and that made him stronger. The second one was trying to make a raft and that showed him to never give up. On day 1 it was really hard for Brian but on day 54 it got easy because he has made a lot of changes through day 1-54.
The mental and physical changes Brian went through all helped him during his survival and benefited him even when he was found. Physically and mentally Brian became stronger from these changes, which helped him survive. For Brian this was a life changing experience, throughout the novel Brian develops as a person. However the questions still about
In the novel Hatchet, written by Gary Paulsen, the main character Brian is flying to his dad’s house and suddenly the pilot has a heart attack. Brian didn’t know how to fly the plane or didn’t know where he was going, but the plane crashed. Brian was stranded in the middle of nowhere. While he is stranded he displays quite a few character traits to the reader. The three that he shows the most I think is committed, courageous, and hard-working. These are the traits that Brian possesses in the novel and help him survive. There is many evidence to back up these traits that I choose for Brian.
Brian appreciates the nature so much that he volunteered to go into the wilderness and
Brian landed in the Canadian wilderness with no food. “I’m hungry and i'd trade everything I have for a hamburger.”(47) The book talks about him finally getting cherries by following birds. Later he decides to hunt for more wholesome food. He found a bird that was easy to hunt because of it's stupidity. he also fished with tools he crafted. He could have stopped at the berries but he went the extra mile to hunt for birds & fish.
is full of interest unlike other survival novels like Robinson Crueso. I was impressed by Brian's inner growth as he struggles to survive in the wilderness. He learned anger and blaming oneself doesn't help anything to be better. Also, he got the ability to think deep and thanking attitude to foods. Unfortunately, the end was so sudden. That's one of my hateful ending-immediate end. That was a miss point of the book. Anyway, in general, I could think of my behavior to emergency with contrasting Brian with
Brian has so many things to be proud of and he always follows his family motto about “never giving up”. That is a motto everyone in life should have, you will face obstacles in life, but why let them defeat you, push and fight against them just like Brian
First and foremost, the story “Hatchet” has a significant turning point. Brian was flying in a plane to meet his father in the oil fields of Northern Canada when the pilot had a heart attack. Because the pilot had a heart attack, Brian was forced to crash land the plane. Then Brian landed in the wilderness and has to survive with a 2 dimes, a quarter, 2 pennies, a nickel, a hatchet his mother gave him, and himself. Brian will have to make serious choices in order to survive this frantic turning point in “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. At first Brian thinks that he can't do anything and that he is weak, but later on in the story he figures out that he is his most important asset and that encourages him to survive this tragic event.
Thankfully, Louie’s determination to survive helped keep him and one of his crew members alive to see their family again. After capture, forced into working and starved nearly to death at camps they found themselves in an even more difficult situation. Triumphant in his efforts to survive, Louie withstood more than his physical and mental strength should have allowed. Like Rosa Parks, a determined Louie fought for what he believed, through the pain he kept a bar raised over his head when “The Bird” wanted to punish him: “Five more minutes passed, then ten. Louie’s arms began to waver and go numb. His body shook. The beam tipped. ...Louie had held the beam aloft for thirty-seven minutes “. (p302)Louie also showed this determination when he tried to keep his crew's mental state in check, he told them of his mother's food: “So began a thrice-daily ritual on the raft, with pumpkin pie and spaghetti being the favorite subjects. “(p153). Courage allowed him and his crew to survive longer; staying alive provided more challenges. Louie once hung the side of a raft, dodging bullets and kicking away sharks even when weak and starved. “As quickly as he could, Louie pulled himself along the cord until he reached the raft. He grabbed its wall and lifted himself clear of the shark “.(p162) This shows Louie, weak physically, was able to withstand what seemed almost
Have you ever wondered what you could learn if you needed to survive in the Wild? Well in the book Hatchet, Brian already answered that for himself when he crash landed in the wild and survived in the wild. He shows what he has learned and how he has changed in chapter 11, when he realizes that his hearing and seeing has increased since living in the wild and in chapter 16, when he shows that he has learned to manage his food in order to survive in the wild. And the upcoming paragraphs are about how the things that Brian learned helped him through surviving in the wild.
Brian Robeson had many different skills, talents, and personality traits that contributed to his survival in the Canadian wilderness. A skill that Brian showed was that he was able to hunt, build things, and use his strength. One talent that he showed was that he was able to hold his breath for a long time. Two personality traits that he showed was that he is very smart and can remember things well. Brian is a 13 year old boy who was trapped in the Canadian wilderness. He used his skills, talents, and personality traits to help him survive.
While Brian was in the wilderness, he realized a lot of things that helped him survive, but I think that there were two
Could not listen as well, he was average weight but after the plane went down he began to listen really carefully, brian became more tougher, like outstanding tougher. He lose a lot of body fat. Over all he never gave up!
When Brian was stranded in the wilderness, he was very scared. For example, he did not have any food or clean water. One reason he was scared was when he went into the woods to find food he ran into a bear, he walked away very slowly
He then tries repeatedly to create fire. He eventually does succeed in making fire. He later finds turtle eggs and hesitantly eats them. Later, a plane flies over Brian, but never notices him and Brian loses all hope. He attempts to commit suicide, but ends up surviving the attempt. Brian makes a bow and some arrows and catches a fish. Later that night a skunk enters his shelter and tries to steal his food. He yells at it and it sprays him, leaving him temporarily blinded. He perfects his tools and catches a bird. While he is cleaning the bird in the lake, a moose attacks Brian. In the attack, his ribs and his shoulder were
