Most likely a very small percentage know these facts off hand. Even after being an avid coffee drinker myself for many years this is news to me as well. Just take a moment to think about how many people you see each day with a cup of coffee in their hands. It’s probably a lot considering the fact that an estimated four out of five people drink coffee before starting their day (RandomFacts 1). The coffee industry is worldwide, which increases the well-being of a substantial amount of individuals by providing many job opportunities. This not only increases the well-being of the workers, but for their families as well. When considering health, one must consider not just physical health but mental health as well. If people didn’t drink coffee it would cause a decreased well-being to the workers in the coffee industry all over the world. There is a possibility you might even know someone that works in the coffee industry, which is why for these individuals to keep their jobs coffee must be consumed. I’m sure either you drink coffee yourself or know someone who does, so knowing how it effects your health, both mentally and physically, is very important. Over time

All of my life I have heard reasons for and against coffee drinking, and being raised a Mormon I was always taught that it was bad. Upon doing research for this paper, I have come to find that it is quite the opposite. First, I will start with the negative side affects since they are minimal. Not to mention diarrhea, muscle tremors, and insomnia (which can be avoided if you stop drinking it before a certain time during the day; so your not up all night!). It also helps to reduce the risk of several cancers such as liver, endometriosis, colon, and skin cancers (the caffeine in coffee is used in some lotions and applied topically can help prevent skin cancer). Your regular brew can also help with minor health problems such as lifting your mood, improving social skills, short term memory, headaches, prevent cavities, and relief of muscle pain. A sample of 34 U.S. Navy petty officers were training to become company commanders at the Naval Training Center and their job involved marked systematic variation in occupational stress. The participants responded to questionnaires that measured their stress level on a scale of one to five, indicating subjective stress and a Mood Questionnaire (MQ) containing 40 adjectives. Also they had to fill out a health status form that measured cigarette smoking, coffee consumption, and alcohol consumption. Major result show that the number of cups of coffee consumed during the average high stress week (M=47.4) was significantly higher than under low stress week (M=33.6). Therefore, people differ in the tendency to increase or decrease habitual coffee consumption in response to varying levels of stress. Caffeine has become a staple in many developed nations. As a stimulant, caffeine provides a viable solution to many individuals maintaining a busy lifestyle. Particularly in the developed world, individuals tend to work long hours, which creates vast amounts of stress. To help alleviate much of the fatigue that accompanies a busy lifestyle, many individuals elect to drink caffeinated beverages. These beverages range from typical colas to coffee, to energy drinks. Each has its own concentration of caffeine, or energy inducing ingredients. Through the consumption of these beverages, many individuals develop a habit of dependency. Those who consume, often do so in large quantities. Large amounts of caffeine can potentially be harmful to an individual's health when consumed vigorously. A qualitative question was inquired from the participants asking them to discuss why they like consuming caffeinated beverages as well as to list the types of caffeinated drinks they consume. A very prominent answer was that the reason that they consume caffeinated beverages was that it provided them energy. All but one participant included this in their answer. Many of the participants have also explained that the beverages helped them focus in class. After reading “Tip of the Iceberg” article I was shocked to learn that drinking a couple 8oz. cups of coffee a day could help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes. I just quit drinking coffee last year because I was worried about the affects it might have on my health. I started drinking coffee regularly ten years ago. When I quit my body went through major withdrawals which I thought validated how bad coffee is for our bodies. This information is so surprising and makes me wonder if having a cup of coffee once in a while wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Caffeine can also improve one’s health by preventing certain diseases. A Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health study showed that drinking four cup of coffee can actually reduce ones chances of dying from a stroke, heart attack, type-2 diabetes, and some neurological diseases (Mulcahy, 3). This is because some components found in coffee beans have positive effects of disease prevention.
Coffee is a popular drink that many people rely on to start their day and give them a pick me up throughout it. Simply smelling the rich aroma of the roasted beans brewing in the morning is enough to start getting a person to feel more alert and prepared. When that first cup is consumed and kicks in it gears a person up and gets them motivated for action. Society needs to see the research scientists have come up with in matters of caffeine, and most will see that caffeine is not a “vitamin”, but something they can not risk of overdosing in anymore. Drinking caffeine may make someone feel great and alert in the beginning, but as more consuming goes on, they realize it doesn't exactly make their day better. Digging deeper into the topic of caffeine rather than staying on the surface will help others to see that maybe they need to cut down on the amount, or quit completely. Quitting completely is not an easy thing to do and as I have said before, moderation is a huge thing to consider. But one thing to consider is while reducing the risk of one disease, this may be increasing the risk of another disease at the same time which is why a person would consider caffeine as the hazardous drug to ones

Why wouldn’t you drink coffee it it technically makes you have less ways to die. Another reason why coffee protects your heart is according to http://www.everydayhealth.com, “Five clinical studies, including more than 140,000 patients, found that those who drank four cups of coffee daily were least likely to develop heart failure.” Your heart helps you, so why not help it back by drinking coffee. You can save your heart by drinking something the isn’t bad for you and doesn’t taste bad. Not only is coffee giving you a less chance of getting type 2 diabetes and coffee protecting your heart good reasons why coffee is good, but so is coffee making you live
