An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.

Being an outsider is a position that an individual does not fit in with the rest of society. Areas of society are often called clique at which we feel like we must coordinate our actions to follow and pleases. Those actions leads to the anonymous question should the outside, those who do not follow the rest be embraced or rejected. Corresponding with the rights of our world, we are seen as equal, yet we do not always follow that. Outsiders should be rejected, providing them growth, individuality through independence and, crucial life skills.

One example of an outsider would be Gregor in the famous story “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka. In this story, there are numerous examples of Gregor being misjudged and Gregor feeling misunderstood. The first example is how people view Gregor as a traveling salesman. “People don't like traveling salesmen. I know that. People think they earn pots of money and thus lead a fine life. People don't even have any special reason to think through this judgment more clearly” (Kafka, 148). In this quote, you can clearly see that people are misjudging Gregor because he is a traveling salesman. In the text, Gregor feels that he is misunderstood because none of these people know that Gregor has to work as a traveling salesman not because he wants to, but because he has to pay off his family's debt. What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you ever been an “outsider”? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren’t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.

What does Outsider really mean? Excluded, harsh family, different, stand out, mistreated, an Outsider stands alone. Why? Because people in this world just don’t understand what it’s like to be an Outsider. Don’t! I repeat don’t excluded your peers who see things a different way. The way they see finest. Encourage them along with their feelings, thoughts, also their differences. Treat them the same way you treat others. It explains that many people are crudely teased, furthermore, they’re taught to feel hurt by their peers. Instead of not helping peers you should comfort Outsiders to continue doing what they’re doing. Outsiders should not be mistreated the way they are because one of a kind. You can extremely hurt your peers by telling them they’re different. When the Greasers were called “Greases” by their peers( Someone will come by and scream “Greaser!” at them, which doesn’t make you feel too hot ⁽⁴⁾) it didn’t feel so pleasing. So, if you are being mistreated along with considering you may be an Outsider remember these teens. Life is rough, not just for you for everyone. Greasers were all Outsiders in this book. Greasers were the gang of which everyone knew. Getting into fights quite often, plus long hair, this gang stuck out like a sore thumb. Greasers were kicked around, picked on, as well as they were jumped by the Socs. But that’s not to say they never did anything back. Excluded from Soc groups, treated poorly, the Outsiders in this town were only included in groups

An outsider can be a person who does normally not fit in with the people around them, acknowledging that they are unique and special in their own way. Another way an outsider can be looked at as is “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (Dictionary.com). With there being different meanings to the word outsider an actual outsider can be timid and absent to the people around them or they can be outspoken and persistent by any means necessary.

The difficulty of being an outsider is shown in the novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez. Yolanda, the third oldest of four girls seems to be the most affected by being an outsider in America. She’s also sort an outsider in her home country. Yolanda was an aspiring writer/poet from a young age. When she was younger, she was left on a bus in New York, and when her family finally caught up with the bus, she was reading Edgar Allen Poe to the bus riders. “After about two blocks, we flagged the driver down and climbed aboard. And you won’t believe what we found?...We found that one surrounded by a crowd like Jesus and the elders…She hadn’t even realized we were gone. She had a circle of people around her, listening to her reciting a poem!” (Alvarez) Of course, she also struggles with being a writer from said young age.

There are a variety of people in our society and divide into two main groups. There are people who associate easily with other people are more likely to interact with people. However, there are people who live in a quiet do not mix with other people. We call those people an outsider. To define an outsider as a single sentence from dictionary.com, “A person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc” (1). There are also various definitions of the outsider. Among them, Wing Biddlebaum who is the main character in Anderson’s work is not an outsider from the beginning. He chooses to become an outsider because people are misunderstanding his action with hands. Emily who is the main character in Faulkner’s work is an outsider from the start. Emily, who grew up in a wealthy family, is afraid of people’ eyes to her.

When people are growing up, being normal was the way to be cool. Everyone wants to be like everybody else and that’s the way it goes. What children and many adults still don’t understand is that being different and having diversity is a good thing. It is ok to be different, especially in today 's society. Being able to acknowledge that diversity and disability in everyday life and seeing the good in it will help bring together our society. For my next three paragraphs i 'm going to discuss what it was like to be an outsider, when I experienced diversity and an experience I have had with disability
