Health Promotion with Individuals I NURS 1112-003 Becoming a Professional Nurse Assignment: Personal Experience of Nursing Adam Valeroso Student Mount Royal University Submitted to Heather Bensler Instructor Mount Royal University Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person. My life experiences gave me a view of what nurses and other health care providers do. They, along with personal life situations, gave me an understanding that human life is important and fragile. The people I met and how my life turned out, shaped and affected my personal qualities and my choice to study in becoming a nurse. Ever since
Nurses who have prepared to assume advanced nursing roles can contribute to the healthcare system through new ideas and insights in education, administration, research, and practice. During the process of further education nurses are exposed to professional socialization, which addresses values, norms and ways of viewing situations that are unique to the profession. This process will later provide the common ground that shapes the way work is conducted. Such process, forces nurses to go through different models of transition that will help them overcome personal and professional
In some point in time, during a person’s life they run into the question what do I want to be? They must find a career that they will enjoy or the time that they have spent in class and studying will be in vain. While doing research on the Georgia Career Information Center and from the constant idea throughout my life I have decided that I want to become a registered nurse. The type of work environment, the salary that the job provides and flexibility with work hours are all things that have drawn me to this occupation. I want to specialize in Neonatal. I have always enjoyed caring for people and making a difference to someone. When you become a nurse these are just some of the things that you are able to accomplish. Becoming a registered
We live in a world where the human race seems to be disconnected. Nowadays it feels that there are not enough people helping each other. I don’t treat life like a competition I look at it and I ask myself how may I help? What may I do to make this world a more suitable place for all to live a comfortable and peaceful life? I yearn to come forward and fulfill my role and contribute to our society in any way possible. Nursing is my calling for helping others. It sounds cliché, this I know, but it’s what I desire and what I decided to do with my body, mind, and soul.
As of 2008, there were about 753,600 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2,618,700 Registered Nurses in the United States (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). In the year 2018, the LPN employment percentage is expected to rise 21% while the RN rate should be approximately 22% (U.S. Department of Labor, 2010-11). This may not seem that high, but it is, when one considers that the expected employment rate for a Dentist is only expected to be 16% (U.S Department of Labor, 2010-11). Nursing is a highly respected and sought after career because every person that enters this profession is able to make a difference and is needed by the general population for his/her skills and contributions to the medical field. When a person is contemplating entering
People around the world would not be cared for, educated, and have emotional support during their injuries and their family member's injuries, if it was not for Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses need to genuinely have people skills in order to care for patients and their families. Registered Nurses need to educate people on health care and how to take care of themselves during injuries. The amount of RN's has been growing at a percentage of 19%, which is faster than average ("Registered Nurses: Occupational Outlook Handbook"). This is excellent because there are more Registered Nurses, therefore, there are more patients being cared for. Being a Registered Nurse requires an associates degree, specific qualities such as people skills and sympathy, and knowledge about medical care to be able to do the duties.
After persuing your career as a Registered Nurse, dramatic changes will be very noticable in your life. You will find yourself doing things you'd never thought you'd do, and also seeing a variety of things you never imagined seeing. Being in the career path as such, can bring on a healthier, yet less stressful lifestyle. Becoming a Registered Nurse would be a life changer. Some ways becoming a Registered Nurse would impact my life are the good pay and benfits, having the ability to save others lives, and also being able to motivate younger kids and teenagers to persue their dream in becoming a RN.
As the future quickly ahead of me is being planned I have already come to the conclusion that becoming a Nurse Practitioner is what my heart most desires. A nurse practitioner is a person that is taught to utilize their critical thinking skills with advanced academic learning in order to take care of others by making clinical desicion making as it pertains to emotional, mental and physical being .This includes giving them medical instructions to specific or general illnesses to follow at home and through out the managing of their chronic illnesses. Furthermore, reasearching to become a nurse has been enlightening and prior to this course I was not aware that there were many specialities that I could select from such as Genetics, Geriatric, Pediatrics, Addiction, Neonatology , Rehab. Depending on the specificity of the areas of health the requirements for a higher education are
Going back to when I was a novice nurse, I was nervous, scared, afraid of making medication error, charting errors or fail to recognized patients worsening symptoms. These fears, made me vigilant, focused and kept me on my toes at all times. No matter which part of nursing I ended up as I grew up the from medical surgical nursing to stepdown unit nursing to intensive care nursing, I felt those fears in every step of my growth and they helped me be a better nurse for my pateints. Today, I am in the advanced practitioner program to become a nurse practitioner who is responsible for: interviewing, assessing, diagnosing, counseling and treating patients. To provide safe and quality healthcare, I am expected to have good critical thinking and decision making abilities (Maten-Speksnijder, Grypdonck, Pool, & Streumer, 2012). while I can recognize clinically deteriorating patients and recommend treatments, I am now responsible for providing treatments. I am now recognizing that facts about being not only responsible for the patient, but also to provide safe care that keeps the patient out of the hospital and out of the ICU. Knowing these facts, I am yet again, faced with the fears of my limited clinical practice knowledge as a practitioner. The amount of information that I have received and learned during this clinical rotation was both exciting and overwhelming at the same time, because I realized as a novice student nurse practitioner (NP), the limited depth of
I have worked as a Registered Professional Nurse for about 8 years, and have the professional goal of obtaining a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration. This, I believe, would help me to positively influence patient healthcare outcomes on a management level. In this essay, I will provide examples of how I have exemplified professionalism as a Registered Professional Nurse, in the areas of leadership, evidence- based practice, information management, interprofessional collaboration, and professional values.
Transitioning from a student to a BSN graduate is very scary. I have already made plans to stay working in Illinois but I have had discussions with my Sister in-law about steps that I can take to work out of state. After graduation, I will apply for examination and licensing. I can perform this task online or do a paper application; the application and $91fee are paid to an outside agency. Illinois requires for graduates to submit proof of graduation before the exam can be taken. The state requires an official school transcript, if it’s not available you can speed the process by having your school provide information from the nursing program.
“When you are a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.”(Anonymous) A lot of people want a career in the medical field but soon realize it has requirements that are not easy. If you really want something you have to fight for it. If you want to be a registered nurse you have to go to school and try because one day you could help someone. The patients rely on upcoming nurses a lot. The qualifications for becoming a registered nurse aren’t easy but it is worth it.
Becoming a professional nurse I need specific knowledge about the major groups of culturally diverse individuals, families, and communities they serve, including, but not limited to: specific cultural practices regarding health, definitions of, and beliefs about, health and illness; biological variations, cross-cultural worldviews; acculturation, and life experiences, such as refugee and immigration status, as well as a history of oppression, violence, and trauma suffered. “Critical reflexivity is a personal analysis that involves challenging personal beliefs and assumptions to improve professional and personal practice” (Timmins, 2006).
Nursing is a unique field full of knowledge, skills, values, and most importantly, commitment. It is not just a simple commitment, but also more of a professional commitment. Within the nursing field, there are specific goals that must be met in order to become a competent nurse. High standards and expectations are required to achieve a certain level of competency to prepare for the role of taking care of lives. Therefore, nursing should not just be considered a job, or a career, but also a profession with heart.
I love compasses. I collect them and admire how such a small device can help people find the way. They are the symbol I think of when I am describing my passion for to advance their learning and development. In my mind, I am the compass for those clinicians and organizations who need guidance. I am excited to provide some insight in how to navigate your professional career within an always fluctuating healthcare environment.
Nurses play a huge role in the society, as they work with different classes of people from little children to the elderly, from hospitals to privately owned businesses. Furthermore, nurses are not only healthcare providers, but they are also teachers and promoters of good health. They partake in teaching at hospitals, but also promote health education in places like schools and offices. When I finally become a nurse, my greatest joy would be to know that I have being a tool for helping people reach healthier heights, and to also know that I have been an agent for the promotion of good health.
