The use of social media has now gone far beyond the sole use of entertainment purposes. When the social media craze first started, most people used it for quick communication and entertainment. It was sites like MySpace and AIM that are held responsible to get the social media ball rolling in the early 2000’s. The early 2000’s were part of a new age when technology reigned king. Technology was quickly spreading and people were starting to realize what the full scope of possibilities that were to be done with it. Countries such as China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan are all on the brink of banning the use of all social media in their countries. These countries are still waiting to reap the benefits, if any, from watching its citizens and vice versa. All the countries seem to get close to banning social media, but the citizens come together and prove how watching each other on social media can help. These countries have all experienced the positive and negative affects that of the use of social media in their countries. Another form of watching that is taking place is through the sports world in America. Any athlete at such a distinguished level will say how limited they are in what they post on their social media accounts. There are too many young and influential minds that could easily repeat a bad act. One of the worst forms of watching or, in this case, being watched is through terrorist organizations. These organizations will lure in easily influenced kids to get them to fight against the United States. Social media watching is not all sunshine and rainbows, it can turn out to be thunderous when it comes to …show more content…
These religious groups can vary from Christianity to Buddhism and anything in between. If one of these groups contacts someone on social media it would most likely only be them trying to spread their religious teachings. However, not all of these “religious groups” are good for the world. Some of the groups can be hate groups or extremists for a certain religion. The most common in today’s world is the Islamic extremist group called ISIS. Terrorist groups like ISIS watch certain American citizens to try and recruit them for terrorist training camps overseas. They will single out vulnerable citizens that are easily persuaded with tactics like “Reverse Shoutouts, Ghanima Accounts, and Account Donations” (Softness). One of the more common ones being account donations, which is when a terrorist group like ISIS starts a twitter account and makes it known for terrorist activities. After ISIS is done with the account, they will hand it off to an easily influenced child to try and persuade them to leave America and join ISIS overseas. With ISIS and other terrorist groups trying to poison the American youth, some sort of restrictions are needed to be put on social media sites to avoid the amount of watching that these terrorist groups are doing to the children at home. Some steps that can be taken right away to avoid being watched by these groups include but are not limited to,
People do not realize the immense impact social media has on their lives. Social media first impacted people’s lives with the invention of the telephone in 1890. Following this, the radio entered many homes in 1891; this was the beginning of social media. During the twentieth century, computers and the Internet began the modern rise of today’s social media. UseNet, in 1979 was a virtual newsletter, which began what people think today of as modern social media. When home computers became popular during the 1980s, such sites as relay chats took off. Then, in 1997, the first true social media site , Six Degrees, came about: “It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that’s still popular today” ( “Complete History of Social Media: Than and Now”). Although social media has some positive effects, social media has changed the world for the worse because it negatively affects politics, privacy, and bullying.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, what do they mutually have in common? They are all social media websites. Social Media has become the number one way to communicate with other people from around the world. It has been beneficial and helpful to many, on the contrary harmful to some. People use social networks to catch up with a childhood friend, endorse their business, or develop news faster. Other people use it to steal identities, cyberbully, and abuse others. It has stated that social media’s are “websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts” (“social media.”) With this in mind, how has social media influenced

(Merriam-Webster.com, 2018) Social media has developed into a platform that is effortlessly available to anybody that can log on the Internet. (Wikman & Cottrell,) The key social media platforms that are used today are: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. (Standberry, 2017)
Social media censorship has a big impact on American society where there's been a lot of control over what someone can post on the internet. The companies have created strict policies towards what people can post and a lot of the users are not happy. The big problem is that social media companies have too much power with censoring what people say and read, which is limiting people's freedom of speech and I don’t believe that companies should censor a lot of the things people post in social media unless is something bad that can harm someone. Companies find ways to censor people's media post either because they believe it can hurt a country's image or they believe others wouldn't like it.
The drastic enhancements of technology have lead this generation to what we know and what we are used to. Since the late 90’s social media has drastically changed and upgraded. In 1997 the first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees was created. It was for users to upload personal photos and communicate with strangers and friends via social media. As we entered the early 2000’s more sites began to appear. Some which are very popular and still used to this day such as Facebook and Twitter. There is a vast variety of social media sites but they all create and allow an environment for individuals to blog and communicate with friends or
This is mainly due to the numerous advancements in technology that led to the expansion of the internet and social media, reaching all members and classes of society. In fact, as of 2016, nearly 78% of all Americans were social media users, representing a 5% growth from 2015’s 73%. This accentuates the extensive impact social media has on the American society though unfortunately, as the influence of social media increases, so does the proliferation of terrorism. The Internet, and all its cyber platforms, has prominently served as a recruitment tool used by most extremists and terrorist groups along with a means of exchange of radical ideals and
Social media is fickle, however, and flits from event to event. It also falls prey to sensationalism and desensitizes the masses. Such is seen with the Islamic State. Those violations are shown through social media and yet, only worsens the situation for innocent Muslims. The same could be said for the slaughter of black men, women, and children by police and civilians. Social media is a double-edged sword and shouldn’t be taken
Infamous terrorist group ISIS and their simplistic, yet effective methods of targeting the populous of numerous countries via social media have become a negative impact worldwide over the past few years. Terrorist attacks in the United States and other countries are becoming more prevalent, including the spread of toxic falsities. Popular sites like: Facebook, Twitter and World Star Hip-hop come to mind as a medium to the masses. This uncensored content sparks disgust with the populous with their governments and the future of those countries. With a surge of technology usage in our daily lives, this leaves the population, primarily young adults, susceptible
“One of the most popular social media sites, Facebook, has 1.4 billion users around the world, nearly a fifth of the world's population, thus helping us to better understand, learn and share information instantaneously making the world look like a small village” (Amedie 2015, Pg. 5). This just shows how many people are watching and reading articles, which pop up on their timeline. Another thing Facebook promotes is different social groups. This makes it easier for individuals to join groups, and these groups could be radical groups or hate groups, which promote supremacy or racism. If people are exposed to extremist or racist views through social media, they could easily be emotionally swayed to participate in criminal acts against other groups. “In today's world, it is undeniable that social media plays an important role in impacting our culture, our economy and our overall view of the world” (Amedie 2015, Pg. 3). Social media is the platform that brings people to exchange ideas, connect with one another, seek advice and offer guidance, good or bad. Since the start of the social media era, communication barriers have been removed and the door has been opened for people to voice or share their opinion, as they please. Again the media outlet accommodates a wide variety of formal and informal unscholarly writings to

In the last decade, social media has evolved into the preeminent allocation of insight - the pumping heart that keeps the citizens’ awareness alive. It is not the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to the masses. It has become a necessity in American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When content is blacklisted, a stranglehold is entrenched upon our ability to proactively communicate throughout our civilization. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Censorship has been commonly employed by other governments in the past as a method to influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Ultimately, overly aggressive government censorship of social media exposes the liability of encroaching upon civil rights.
The news media can bring updates on the topic of what is going on in different neighborhoods all over the world. [News can be obtained from any site, including FB, whose goal is] “to make the world open and connected” (Hu 01). News platforms provides the nation with the opportunity to watch the news and to be alert to the most current information on a daily basis. “Presently, Syrian videos display has taken us into a new era of politics with the possibility of unifying a large number of people all over the world” (Yusuf 2). What is cyber terrorism exactly? Cyber terrorism is known for “an electronic terrorism or information wars, can be defined as any act of Internet terrorism which includes deliberate and large-scale attacks and disruptions of computer networks using computer viruses, or physical attacks using malware, to attack individuals, governments, and organizations” (Paul Curran). Terrorist have gotten a lot clever and started using social media to alert, recruit, and scare the public with their terrifying messages about their organizations and attacks they plan to make in the future. This was a boost for Terrorist organizations to get their messages out to the world and to get more people to join them. Problems started to rise from Twitter, Instagram, video messages posted on Facebook or any website out there. We now have to take this problem in our hands and take a step forward to try and resolve this “cyber terrorism” threat from going any further.
