Social media refers to websites where individuals can create, share, and exchange information in a virtual community and network. The channels of social media include Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, and blogs. There is a rise in the use of social media because of increase in technology. The increased penetration of internet in the world has rapidly increased the users of social media making it widespread and accessible to people throughout the world. Its emergence has led to building of new relationships while also impacting others.

Society’s dependence on a vast array of information and communication technology has not only changed the way we communicate but has also reinvented social activism. Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and forum websites like Reddit has given digital activism more potential than ever before to create real change. Whether the activism pertains to political, social or economic changes–digital technology allows individuals working collectively to achieve a common purpose with more ease in their pursuit of change.

Many people have described the Internet as “a whole new world.” From Facebook to Google, there are a multitude of ways to connect with others and acquire information like never before. According to Pew Research Center, seventy-six percent of social media users in the United States use Facebook daily (Social Media Fact Sheet).That is an immense amount of connections and information being shared. The United States has made many technological advancements for the good, however, the United States has given up their privacy for safety and convenience.

Although social media can be beneficial for communication with family, long distance friends, and learning new things and seeing new interesting things, it can also be dangerous to someone who does not know how to use social media or is new to it. Social media is harmful in today’s society; like Facebook, and snapchat, should enforce privacy more heavily to avoid social anxiety, sexual harassment crimes,and communication.

Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i-phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don’t use properly. Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.

There is a transformation happening today that is completely changing the way that we do things. The ways that we are communicating are shifting from face to face interactions to short, interactive messages. Technology seems to be making it easier to stay connected, but it is restricting our interactions with others and leading to isolation.

Our society has become heavily reliant on social media, and today’s younger generation cannot avoid using it in their everyday lives. As time has progressed, social media has advanced significantly, becoming easier to access with a touch of a button. These advancements provide both positive and negative consequences to youths’ relationships. Due to the rapid advancement of social media, youths’ real-life relationships with their peers have been affected both positively and negatively.

It is a constant source of news, entertainment, and education for users around the world. Furthermore, technology, and social media did not achieve its popularity until about ten to fifteen years ago, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other similar social media outlets have become the most visited destinations on the internet. They are now accessible at the click of our thumbs. These said websites allow its users to quickly and easily share pictures, send an invite to a party or have a conversation whether it is with pictures or words with other users; theoretically simplifying social interaction. These services, through a combination of accessibility, simplicity, and intuitive design promote positive social behavior by encouraging interaction among our relatives, acquaintances and our colleagues.

Social media has been dominating people’s lives for years now. It is a way for people to stay connected with their family, friends, and even see what their favorite celebrities are doing. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are just a few of the social media sites that people love to use. These sites are used mostly by young adults. I believe social media can be a positive thing, but it can also have some negative effects. Young adults have become dependent on social media likes, retweets, followers and friends to determine validation and self-worth; these elements of social media are important to teenagers. Young adults need to take a step back from social media and focus more on reality, because they can become dependent on it, take it too seriously, and it can affect their mental health.

5000 hours of online observation, done by Southern California University, found that the digital world is creating new opportunities for young people to grapple with social norms, explore interests, develop technical skills, and work on new forms of self-expression that wasn’t possible before social media existed(Goldberg). This brings us to a crippling question that have people on either side of the argument, is social media truly beneficial for society? There are stats that can be found for either position to state their arguments, however, no one can ignore the actual facts that should lead people to realize that social media is beneficial to society.

Social media is used as a form of communication that many people use to communicate with friends and family. “Any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other visitors falls into the definition of social media” (Nations). However, there are many pros and cons to the new communication system.

Social media has a major influence on the society. An average person’s daily life is surrounded by interactive social networking sites such as facebook, instagarm, twitter,snapchat and etc. These networking sites provide people with the opportunity to get innovative ideas or share their own ideas or to make new friends or to promote their business with the world etc. It also keeps us informed and updated about the world. Since the invent of social media it has significantly helped the economy to grow.

How many times a day do you check social media? Five to six times if you aren’t busy? Once or twice? A national survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project reported that the number of adolescents online increased to 93% and 75% lived in households with internet access (Shwartz, Sarah). The average person spends about 7-9 hours viewing social media daily, most often letting it effect their self-esteem. Self-esteem is defined as “confidence in ones worth and abilities; self-respect” (Merriam-Webster). People spend most of their time on the internet now due to email, instant message, blogging, and other social media outlets. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are all major social media outlets that people spend most of their day on, watching videos and viewing pictures of what people are doing. These outlets are a way of staying connected with the outside world and what is going on within it, but is it such a good thing to be able to see what everyone else is doing all the time? Most social networking sites are about making friends, and getting approval from others. It’s easier to make friends online because you get to view their profile. Most sites allow you to view a person’s age, what they’re interested in, what hobbies they have, favorite foods, all things someone can make a judgment about. Most people want positive feedback, they want to know if people like how they look, or what they’re doing. Social media doesn’t only affect the way you feel

How has social media been able to help enlighten and further enhance various movements important to the community? This is not a new question to the literate as the has been and undying fort and back argument about the importance of social media in today’s movements such as political activism. In lay mans terms, social media refers to various websites and applications that enable the user to share content and take part in social networking. On various occasions, social media has been very effective in enlightening and increase supporters for various political movements.

Social media is one of the greatest tools that society uses to create and share their own content. Social media has been found by socialmediatoday that ,”the average person spends about 2 hours everyday just on social media and spend a total of 5 years and 4 months of their life span on socail media” (Asano). Given that social media is uesd often by the average person it reaches an emense amount of people of all ages all around the world. With content that can range anything to the sharing of pumpkin spice late recipes on pinterest to sharing advice in meeting your special someone on dating websites. Social is scoieties newest and greatest tools but like all tools there benefits and drawbacks in using them.
