If I Stay Choices are big parts of people's life. They decide on everything and it is not always easy. In the story if i stay for Mia she has to make the hardest choice of her life. Mia is faced with the most important decision she will ever have to make whether to give in to her injuries or fight to stay alive. The author Gayle Forman uses techniques such as revinling the actions, inner thinking , and tone to set support the theme: That not everything in life is easy. Life is full of choices that you make, not choices that others make for you. In “if i stay”, Gayle Forman uses revealing action to raise the stakes and sets up the problem. She reveals the action because there was a car crash and her Mom, Dad, and little brother all died and she had to decide whether or not to stay. She says “ If I stay. If I live. It’s up to me.” by saying that she is showing what she has to choose. She has to choose between going with her family and giving her life up, or she has to fight to stay alive and continue her life without her family. She does not know what to do she has so much in her life going on, and so many things to love, but she doesn’t know what she will do without her family. Life is full of choices that you make, not choices that others make for you. She has Mia walking around in the story but really she is in a coma and she has to make that big choice. She can walk around and she is thinking, but nobody can see her, but she can see what is going on. She is conscious and does not know what to do. Inner thinking in the book supports the theme because it show what she is thinking and how she is deciding on the the problem which is the theme: That not everything in life is easy.
