Jay’s testimony portrayed Adnan as this vengeful, master liar, and manipulator who had the characters of a killer. The State believed that he was risking everything for this girl who at the end broke his heart. The prosecution was trying to show that the disapproval from his parents and humiliation triggered his actions. He constantly lied to his parents about his social life because he did many things that went against his religion. Honestly, who hasn’t lied to their parents because they were doing disapproving things? Adnan was just a typical teenager with strict immigrant parents. His relationship with Hae was an “on again off again” relationship means he would have cared about the break up at first, but later moved on. Our memory tends to change effortlessly because it receives information frequently. Accordingly, Jay’s memory of the events alters in a normal manner, but Adnan is constant throughout all of his interviews. There’s no way that someone can remember something without even a small change. He’s thought to have planned the murder, so he must’ve also planned a story to tell the police if he was caught. Jay had criminal history which could’ve made him the perfect scapegoat. Adnan made Jay an associate to murder for the purpose to draw all the attention onto him. Furthermore, if he wasn’t guilty why didn’t anyone testify in his favor? In episode 1, Asia reported that she and two friends were at the library the moment Adnan was there. He must’ve given these students a reason to not confess the truth. It was extremely strange that an anonymous caller told the police to question the ex-boyfriend and he’s been with Hae at Leakin’ Park before.
