Analysis Of The Movie ' Prince Of Egypt '

The film is based on the Biblical book of Exodus, though based on Exodus the film has many flaws. Some of which are the Condition of the Nile, Giza and Rameses, also the burning bush. In the Film Prince of Egypt when a young, dashing Moses is placed into the reeds and water everything goes wrong. There are crocodiles, hippos & boats very nearly hitting him, this scene greatly differs to the Bible as shows that it was hectic. Though in the bible young Moses was put in the reeds and God carried him calmly across the water. Another setting change was the location of the Hebrew camps. In the story of Exodus the camps were in Rameses accordingly, unlike the animation where it was in Giza with the pyramids & the sphinx. The last setting change is the Burning bush; in the Moses narrative the burning bush is calm, quiet & soft. The film, ‘The Prince of Egypt’, was mostly accurate in showing God's love for his people and Moses obedience to God, but unfortunately, still showed some inaccuracies in the plot, setting and the characters. The film, ‘The Prince of Egypt’ was released on December 16, 1998, by Dreamworks. The first aspect we will be talking about is the originality in the plot of this movie compared to the Bible, which is fairly accurate but with some minor and major inaccuracies. Another aspect we will consider is the modifications in the film compared with the Bible. Finally, we will be discussing, the remodeling in the characters by Dreamworks. In summary, ‘The Prince of Egypt’ is fairly accurate but still has its differences when compared to the Bible.

In the beginning of the book and the film, Masha’s family is living in poverty. She convinces her father to ask Moses for his job back. When they go to ask Uncle Moses, he ridicules Masha’s father. Masha calls him “a beast, a brute, and a dog.” Masha’s insults exhibits how although he does have money, she does not respect him because he belittles the less fortunate. In the book, Masha meets Uncle Moses in his blue room. The blue room is a filled with luxurious furniture and eccentric blue lighting. While in the blue room, he tells Masha that she does not have to marry him which causes her to contemplate the way she loves him. The book states how “it was as if the blue room had fascinated her, and deep, deep within her she longed for the blue room and its mysterious lights.” The blue room is the epitome of Uncle Moses. As Uncle Moses’s character evolves, she becomes enthralled by his mysteriousness. At the end of the film, Masha and Uncle Moses have a son. When he asks Masha why she is not happy, Masha tells Moses that no amount of money can bring her happiness. Uncle Moses and Masha are highlighted while the rest of the room is dark. He tells her that if he joined “his father in Kuzmin. Everyone would be better off.” Highlighting Uncle Moses while he says this draws attention to his changed perspective of how money and power does not provide respect. Suddenly Masha tells him that “she likes him better than she does her parents.” Masha’s declaration illustrates how she has ultimately come to love the now respectable and compassionate man who is no longer consumed by american materialism and recreating the

Throughout this well written passage the author reveals the character “Moses” through multiple literary elements and rhetorical devices. Some techniques that are used are metaphors, imagery, and selection of detail. The author reveals who Moses really is through deep connections. There are also multiple different devices that are intertwined within these techniques and descriptions that help reveal when Moses truly realizes his character throughout the detailed passage. The author, jones does not begin his description until midway through the passage where he states “he was the only man in the realm, slave or free”, this is believed because he wants to give background information about the character Moses before he tells all.

Moses’ sister Miriam came out and asked Pharaoh’s daughter if she would want a Hebrew woman to raise the child and Pharaoh’s daughter agreed. She gave Moses to Miriam, who took him to Jochebed. Pharaoh’s daughter later got him back and gave him the name Moses. He grew up as a prince with respect and royalty. He would deliver his people from pharaoh but didn’t understand it. God made him a ruler over them but they still rejected him, the same way Jesus was rejected. Moses and Jesus can be compared as they share some similarities. They were both favored by God and were rejected. Pharaoh sought to kill Moses because he had killed an Egyptian soldier, so he fled to a land called Midian because he would have find refuge there. The movie and the book have many comparisons from the race, to the crucifixion of Christ. Many similarities include how Judah became a slave, how poetic justice was served, and that Simonides is crippled. In the story, Tirzah and her mother have lepersy, they are healed by Christ, and they get to see Judah again and live in happiness. In the movie and the book, has a man vs man conflict like Messala and Judah were like brothers, they end up fighting and become enemies, Judah and his family are taken prisoners. Another conflict is man vs man when Judah is taken as a galley slave, and the boat is attacked by pirates. The story begins with the hero’s father being a king. In this story Simba is the son of king Mufasa of Pride Land. He is also reputed to be a Son of God, because Simba is the supposed to the be the successor to Mufasa’s reign. During his birth an attempt was made to kill him by his uncle Scar. Not only does Scar try to kill Simba but also his brother and king, Mufasa in order to gain the throne.

The circumstances from the film The Lion King are similar to that of Shakespeare’s play entitled Hamlet. Creators of Walt Disney’s The Lion King were inspired by the theme of conflict between Claudius and his nephew Hamlet. Simba and his uncle Scar represent a famous struggle for power. The connections between The Lion King and Hamlet displayed a recurring and timeless event throughout the centuries.

Moses was a leader of the Hebrews and probably the most important figure in Judaism. He led the Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the Promise Land. So he goes on another journey and leaves his family to rescue the Hebrew people from Egyptian oppression. He creates an army of Hebrews to fight back the Egyptian army. This is not successful in the movie, God brings about the plagues. His hometown of Egypt gets riddled by a plague and Ramses is killing families until they find Moses. Then the horrible plagues happen in Egypt, because of Ramses hardened heart.
