the same time develop reliable technology that can be used to support efficient and reliable transportation mechanisms for their supply chains (Coyle et al. 2015). In addition, the various firms or companies have to contend with the fact that the increased distances of transportation come with its fair share of risks. The firms need to carry out risk assessment to deal with the unexpected processes. From another point of view, the firms need to make several compromises as they enter into various agreements that will ensure that the transportation processes are well integrated into logistics activities as products are moved from one region to another. The integration processes have always affected the budgetary allocations of the firms …show more content…

From the results, it can be argued out that transportation predates globalization, in that both transportation and globalization are mutually interdependent. In other words, where there is a trade, transportation must be there to support it. To match the increasing globalization, transportation has changed its volume, speed, capacity, and efficiency over the years.
Transport, therefore, plays a major role in supporting international economies and creating major links and networks of exchange of goods via supplying goods through various modes of transports like airlines or marine transportation, which reduces geographical distances between the manufacturer and the consumer.
On the other hand, globalization plays a key function in transportation, which shows in different areas of logistics processes. For example, with globalization transportation of goods from one place to the other has become easier besides cost reduction. Taking marine shipping as an example, though the United States produces a large amount of petroleum the demand is too high in that they require importing some additional petroleum to meet its demand. In 2016, US imported roughly 10.1 barrels of petroleum per day from various countries. These kinds of global trades are successful because of marine transportation. Receiving all that amount of oil is very easy through shipping which is the best global distribution of bulky commodities is like oil and grains
Globalization is the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network by transportation, communication, and trade. Through a global lens the process of globalization seems to be vital to the development of the modern world. As a result of globalization there has been a dramatic transition in every aspect of life around the world, more specifically in areas such as trade, immigration, and human development. International trade bolsters sales, lowers the cost of production and consumption, and extends the market reach of any corporation. This is beneficial to America in that consumers are able to buy more goods and services at lower costs and therefore the gross domestic product
d). Also, goods are moved throughout the world through ocean and coastal routes, inland waterways, railways, roads, and air freight, and this global goods movement are enhanced by the global freight transportation system. For instance, worldwide shipping account for eighty five percent of goods movement all over the world with about 500 million containers moving through global ports yearly (McGreevy, & Harrop, 2015, P.328). Transportation is termed one of the four main components of globalization (Kumar and Hoffmann, 2002; Corbett and Winebrake, 2008). The worldwide supply chain system depends upon the networks of transportation infrastructure, and other critical elements like information technology to succeed (Obama,
Globalization is increasing interdependency of nations and businesses throughout the world. It has had a profound effect on both markets and production. It has lowered or eliminated government barriers to export-import trade. Gives firms access to the worlds vast offerings of food, clothing, and other manufactured goods. Companies can also benefit from foreign manufacturing, shifting factory production to less developed, cheaper labor countries.
Transportation is one of the most important things in this planet. No one can do anything with their money if they can’t either get to the place where they spend it or get what they are buying to them. Transportation played a huge role in the later part of the 19th century in increasing the amount of movement of people and objects which helped with economic growth in America.
Globalization has transformed the world economy over the past years. The spread of ideas and technology across borders has facilitated new avenues of trade, creating new markets and expanding others. However not only has the world benefitted
Part A: Describe how you would design a new logistics network consisting of only a single warehouse.
Europe & North America James Forrestal once said, “For the only way in which a durable peace can be created is by world-wide restoration of economic activity and international trade.” The global freight distribution system has been impacted by the advancements of technology, model structures and terminals. Europe and North America have had similarities and differences when it comes to transportation systems, globalized trade and global policy implications. Freight transportation systems are the physical process of transporting commodities, goods and cargo. Globalized trade is the type of economic globalization and a measure of economic integration.

People around the world are more connected to each other than ever before. Information and money flow quicker than ever. Products produced in one part of a country are available to the rest of the world. It is much easier for people to travel, communicate and do business internationally. This whole phenomenon has been called globalization. Spurred on in the past by merchants, explorers, colonialists and internationalists, globalization has in more recent times been increasing rapidly due to improvements in communications, information and transport technology. It has also been encouraged by trade liberalization and financial market deregulation.
Transportation is a key element in the logistic chain. It joins together those components that are considered to be separated. In order for transportation and logistics to work together successfully, there must be good management between them. It plays a
Transportation on the other hand is the movement of people, information and goods from one location to another. The specific purpose of transportation is to fulfill a demand for mobility, since transportation can only exists if it moves people, freight and information around. Otherwise it has no purpose. Since the 18th century till now, urbanization, multinational corporations, the globalization of trade and the international division of labor are all forces shaping and taking advantage of transportation at different, but often related, scales. Consequently, the fundamental purpose of transport is geographic in nature, because it facilitates movements between different locations. Transport thus plays a role in the structure and organization of space and territories, which may vary according to the level of development.
Economic globalization has become the most important feature and a general trend of present world economic development. Globalization is a phenomenon and also a process of development of mankind and human society (Hamilton, 2008). It is the essential feature of the modern age. Globalization is the cross-border flows of capital and goods, including capital, labour, technology and natural resources (Bożyk, Misala & Puławski, 2002). Economic globalization is a historical process, and the germination of it could date back to the 16th century. After the industrial revolution, capitalist commodity economy, modern industry and transportation have been developing rapidly. The world market was fast expanded and the foreign trade was

Transport plays a critical role in the supply chain and according to Bhattacharya et al. (2014) it is becoming one of the key components of the whole supply chain valuation for many organizations. Transportation is the movement of good from one location to another. Supply chain is a network of individuals, organizations, activities, resources and technology that is involved in formation and sale of a product, which is from the delivery of source materials from the supplier to the manufacturer, through to the end user. Hopkins (2007) states that supply chain professionals look at whole business procedures, which is from raw materials to manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing. And by
