The American Revolution was turning point in the United States. It was a time of change and revolution in America. The ideas during the American Revolution is responsible for the way America is today. The American Revolution opened the eyes of many americans to what is right and just. The American Revolution was a revolutionary time because it led to more equality for the minorities, it gave more power to the people and broke down social barriers. During this time African American people were not treated the same as white people. They were looked down on and most of them were slaves. The American Revolution was revolutionary because it led to the freedom of slaves. In 1787 The Northwest ordinance was passed which outlawed slavery in the Northwest Territories ( Document 5). These ideas were revolved around Life,Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. During this time people started to realize that the way things were working such as slavery and unequal rights did not abide by the rule of Life Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness. A picture of patriots taking down a statue of the King shows(Document 1) the revolutionary idea that the people have the power to overthrow the king if he violates the natural rights of the people.The idea that everyone is created equal was another revolutionary idea.To go along with this a revoultionary idea was that the government gets it’s power from the consent of the goverd’. It states that “that to secure these rights,governments are instituted among men deriving their power from the consent of the governed”(Document 2) The people give the government the power that it has,without the people the government was powerless.This thought came during the Revolution when people realized that they had the power to make changes in the government to benefit their
