Am I Dying To Myself Analysis

Humans always surprise each other. The amount of good we can commit in just one simple act can be astonishing. Whether it is donating money to charity, helping out an old friend, or just even offering someone a smile or kind word when having a bad day, can lead to a great impact on their life. “Just as one drop of water creates countless of ripples, so does one gesture of kindness or love change countless lives (Randi G Fine)”. These noble, grand gestures; or le beau geste; are unselfish acts that people commit with the intention of creating a better life for someone else. These acts can be committed due to love, compassion, or sacrifice. However, in the end, all these noble gestures boil down to creating a better world out there for others.

In this talk ““Am I dying?” The honest answer”, Matthew O'Reilly (2014) told about when peoples had minutes left to live, what are they thinking about and their feeling of that moment. The author is a veteran emergency medical technician. His task is to save people's lives, but not everyone life can be saved by him. He saw many situations when he saving some peoples that had suffered critical injuries. Maybe the patient only had minutes left to live, they always asking a

Tim Meeker concludes the epilogue with,” But somehow, even fifty years later, I keep thinking that there might have been another way, besides war, to achieve the same end” (Collier and Collier 211). Fifty years after the war, Meeker reflects on his life during the Revolutionary War with Britain and the American colonies. He has been torn between the sides of war, fought with family, experienced deaths of loved ones, and other conflicts the war has brought him. Authors James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier express Meeker’s troubles and thoughts along with lessons that the war has taught him. Tim learned from the way war affected him that war is futile.

But, during the time that greatness needs to be conquered many turn to the one opposing the obstacle, not knowing what is to come with the win over greatness, with hatred and misunderstand. In the speech of “The Soul of an Individualist” there are many examples given to why there needs to be egoism such as “the creation of fire” and “the creation of the wheel” revolutionary, innovative inventions and discoveries because without it many would not be thriving today. Without it those “transgressors”, the ones who challenged life and asked for purpose many would not have been “burned at the stake” because we, collectively, did not understand it at the time but now we need it because it makes life meaningful and more enjoyable. Every living human being has the opportunity and ability to do what he or she feels is just for the world. Although, in the present age, society seems to lack the figures of “social beings” (cctwincities.org). These social beings are seen as up standers. They have the charisma and dedication required to relentlessly pursue and never give up on a cause that they feel strongly about; be it through their words or actions. Craig Kielburger is often referred to as an up stander. William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying explores the meaning of different point of views, and reminds us that everything is in the eye of the beholder. Much of the novel alternates between fifteen characters whom deliver interior monologues with varying degrees of emotional intensity and coherence. Through these passages, we are able to piece together the story of Addie Bundren’s death and the journey the family undergoes to bury her. Throughout history, across time and space, there have been many thinkers whose teachings and ideas have inspired significant changes in the world around them. From Socrates and Sir Isaac Newton to Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein, certain individuals throughout history have had both the brainpower and the motivation to essentially change the future, using their new ideas and beliefs to shape the world's next generations into individuals who were, and continue to be, more informed than the last. Who could imagine modern life without the knowledge that these individuals provided us? As with all worldly change, many of these thinkers' views and methods were challenged, but in never backing down, many of these teachings, and certainly the names of the individuals behind them, have stood the test of time, as seen in viewing two of history's most noted thinkers, Immanuel Kant and Martin Luther King, Jr.

To fit the Category of a book with a parent to child conflict I picked the book As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. I took this topic a bit differently as written above. I wrote about the relationships between the family members relating back to the mother and conflicts the family faces to please the mother. The book itself covers this topic pretty well- the mother of the family, Addie, passes away leaving the family to grant her burial wishes. The story is told in the perspective of the people that knew her, especially her direct family. Even Addie narrates the story in the beginning before she passed.

This was a year to remember to quote the infamous Drake " What a Time to be Alive". The year started with me working the 2015 BET Honors my first time working that particular show. It was actually the first show I wanted to work when first beginning this journey, so it was a full circle moment to get that particular call and to meet Phylicia Rashad someone who I had looked up to for so many years just made the night that much more special.

“Miracle” details the story of a boy being part of a miracle in a Nigerian church. He begins by describing certain rituals of the church, such as a prayer and performing Nigerian songs. Eventually, a short, blind old man described as a “prophet” reaches the pulpit. Most people at the church were Nigerian immigrants looking for miracles, and believed he could perform them.
