am Elyssia Gaffney. I was born and raised in Houston. TX, but currently reside in Chattanooga, TN. I am a senior at the University of Tennessee- Knoxville pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Electronic Media with a concentration in Broadcast Media. My primary goal is to become an anchor for E! News. While conducting research on the partnered sororities of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, I discovered particularly fascinating attributes associated with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. What fascinated me the most was the sorority’s distinct dedication to education, sisterhood, mentorship, and international service. I desire membership of the first organization people look to for help; that is Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. This sorority has made its way relevant from 1908 to modern day and progressively moving forward. I want to be able to say the same thing about myself. I will be an asset to the sorority as I am an asset to this world. I strive to motivate, educate and inspire through my volunteer work and leadership. My strong work ethic helps me balance my school work with my extracurricular activities, including Strange Fruit Dance Company, Love United Gospel Choir, Women’s Media Group, and Women’s Coordinating Council. I also find it important to give back with the University of …show more content…
I will feel honored to be a part of an organization that was founded by and continues to consist of many influential women who are dedicated to bettering themselves and their community. Joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presents an opportunity for me to continue to serve my community and beyond as well as develop lifelong bonds with like minded young women who push each other to reach their goals and
I learned so much about the things I was capable and not capable to do and about the foundation of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. The lovely ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. always made me feel very comfortable to the point that I was able to be myself around them. However, when I tried that with the other sorority members it did not felt the same way. The other sorority made me feel left out and uncomfortable when being around them and that’s something that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did not. Being able to talk one on one, ask for help and talk to the ladies like a regular friend was one of the reason why I chose Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority
As a young woman who strives to make a difference both locally and globally, I know that membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will aid in accomplishing my life long goals. The emphasis this organization places on assisting and supporting others through the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, is truly a reflection of the public service initiatives that I make an effort to take part in. The opportunity to form a lifelong bond with other college educated women, who share some of the same morals and beliefs as I do, is phenomenal. I know that membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will mean taking that initiative to become a part of something that’s bigger than myself, because I certainly can’t take on the world alone. The incredible
Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was founded in 1908, their motto has been “By Culture and By Merit”, and the mission of the sorority goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to alleviate problems concerning girls and women to maintain a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission to stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1).

I am serious about being in one of our nation’s most respectable sorority within the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated gives me the opportunity to
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
The three main reasons I am excited to join a sorority include my personal development, loyalty and friendship, and support of my aspirations. As a sister, there is an expectation of social interaction and personal development. I am confident that my experience and communication skills will be enriched by the activities that I participate in, the responsibility I take, and the people I meet. I am looking forward to making friends for life. I think that the atmosphere and set up of a sorority fosters and encourages the development of lifelong friendships through common aims and shared experiences. I also believe that sorority life emphasizes and encourages loyalty to and among the sisterhood, my school and the nation. Support from my sisters
I know exactly what you are going through. At the beginning of my freshman year, I swore to myself that I would never join a sorority. I thought it was weird, cult-like, and that I didn’t need to pay money to have friends. However, here I am, loving and actively participating in Delta Gamma, a sorority that was reestablished at the University of Arkansas this year. When I first joined, I had certain expectations. I expected for me and some of the members to be somewhat of acquaintances, but thought that most sorority girls were too self- absorbed for me to gain any real, genuine friendships. Basically, I rushed so that I had
I wish to become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated because I want to be a part of an organization of women who are not afraid to go the extra mile, positively impact the community, and stay true to who they are. As a teen I participated in “From Girls to Pearls”. During my time in the program I learned many life skills that served valuable to me in my adult life. One of the most memorable experiences for me is when the sorror’s of Gamma Zeta Zeta taught a workshop on how to eat in a professional setting. They taught the girls in the program which fork to use for the salad and which fork to use for the main course. My sophomore year in high school I did a junior internship at Vory’s and Sater a law firm in downtown Columbus. The Associates at the firm were very amazed that I knew how to carry myself in a
I’m currently seeking membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, for brotherhood and a friendship, with successful leaders who strive to compel an impact in their communities. Through all my interactions and meeting with members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the features that stood out to me the most that made me personally want to become a member were the friendship they held with each other, and those of similar characteristics. The fact that they were willing to help other men continue to grow and better themselves in any way they could. The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated that I have met, have pushed myself to become a better man and friend. These bonds have added a value to my life that I am forever grateful for.
The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity provided a voice and a dream for African Americans around the world. For people who were colored at the time this fraternity was created, had to struggle in their everyday life because racism was such a huge focus. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven outstanding African American men who attended college there. They created a strong bond and brotherhood in the organization and were an inspiration to colored people all over the nation. The seven founders were known as “Jewels” at the fraternity. These seven men were Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. They were all very intelligent and brave men, a lot of people looked up to them. The fraternity was created and based on colored people who were racially prejudiced socially and educationally. There was one man who caught my eye and found very
My passion for my sorority grew exponentially during the fall of my sophomore year. Recruitment season had started and I was meeting loads of sweet, freshman girls. I loved getting to know the new faces, showing them the ropes and making them feel at home. In high school, I had never been close friends with underclassmen, so the experience of being an older “guide” was new for me. I loved it and I loved my freshmen friends.
When becoming an Alum of the best university, Oklahoma State University, I want to continue to support the university that helped to further my future. Spreading the word of the opportunities that Oklahoma State offers has a large impact on the number of students that attend this university. I plan to let many potential students know what this college has done and continues to do for me. I would love to see that Alpha Zeta has a large role in campus activities, and continues to grow membership each year. With a large student involvement, and respect among campus this organization has only a bright
I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University. Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African-American women has sparked my interest since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908 have been immaculate. Many AKA’s were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney University campus and surrounding areas.
