Economics is the branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth. Economics can even be used a few different ways. They are the study of scarcity, the study of how people use resources, or the study of decision-making. One of the central tenets of economics is that people want certain things and will change their behavior to get those things according to American Economic Association. Government is the governing body of a nation, state, or community. When you hear the word government you usually think of the capitol building or the white house in Washington, D.C.. Government can be defined by the people involved, the system in place, or the process in use. The government impacts our everyday lives because it regulates different services that include protection, electricity, health care, maintenance and water. The fifth and final field is History. History is the study of the past. All developed countries have their National Archives and a historical profession, both paid for out of taxpayers' money. Those who study history, for career purposes, or just personal enjoyment, have other reasons apart from this all-embracing justification for natural resources being channeled into the study of history. History happens each and every day and changes the country. It can also affect the way we see the United States. Even the smallest things can change an entire nation. What is government? Government is the governing body of nation, state, or community. Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several different types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a type of government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law making branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive branch is the presidential branch. “Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed.” (Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or more groups. Two very influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao-tzu and Machiavelli. These writers were in very different times which makes it very interesting to compare their views. Lao-tzu and Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose of government, the obligations of government leaders, and the main work of the state.
When looking up the definition of a government it says, “the governing body of a nation, state, or community”(dictionary.com). A Government, according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary is system used to make decisions for a country. Idealy a country’s inhabitants and decision makers would come to a general consensus and “happy compromise” regarding the national government’s limits and intended purpose. However, in World History there is long pattern of abuse of power, disagreement, a division between people. Politics doesn’t lend itself well to compromise. During the time period from 1765-1800 there were many differing, outspoken views on the role of government, and like many ideas they evolved throughout time.

Although economics encroaches into many disciplines and addresses a wide variety of problems ranging from stimulating economic growth to finding evidence of cheating in sumo-wrestling, they cannot pretend that they can understand human behavior and can simply solve all the problems of the world alone.

I believe that without the roles a government provides a country would not function and would eventually fail.
