Speaking to an audience of hundreds of people sounds terrifying to me, however, it is this precise reason why I think I would make a great speaker. Throughout my academic career, I have always loathed presenting because I am naturally more reserved and in some cases, I am a shy person. I find myself not taking advantage of speaking in classes because I prefer having my thoughts prepared in advance so that I am clear and able to defend my arguments. I have not had a bad experience presenting yet, and I attribute this to careful preparation. Furthermore, I believe my idea is worth spreading because of its timeliness and potential to impact today’s society. I take pride in all the work I put in leading up to the presentation and the opportunity to have the audience’s attention. Presenting at a TEDx event would allow me to share an idea that I think people in New Mexico would be interested in hearing. My idea relates specifically to Native Americans and their portrayal in American and African American literature. Although academic spaces have made room for Native Americans to discuss their perspective on literature, Native Americans are still underrepresented. As …show more content…
Having grown up in a Native American community, I am fully aware of the way Native Americans participate in racism toward African Americans in a misguided effort to find their agency. While I would argue that this is not a problem found only in Native American communities, I personally believe it is a discussion that should come from someone within the community. Of course, my presentation will not cover all the intricacies and complexities of the relationships between African Americans and Native Americans, but I hope to instill a level of self-reflection and how my talk relates to today’s

1. This informative speech on “The Cause of Homelessness “is very Inform able and worth listening to, because in today’s economy it could be you or me. Some seem to think homelessness is choice. I find this speech relevant to the world I live in today, due to the high unemployment rate, declining job market, and the economic hardships that families are enduring. This topic is not a broad one, but yet can be spoke of in depth due to the fact I see many homeless people but never thought it would be me until I seen a family friend who has lost everything, this is what made me more aware that it is not just a choice and any day it could be me. So when you see

During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech
Public speaking is the spark that leads to the realization of the need for change. When the world becomes so conditioned to not talk about the uncomfortable issues, it becomes easy to forget how harmful they truly are. However, public speaking is that opportunity to hold up that mirror to society, and command a change to be made. All of the great social shifts were fueled by the speeches of those who cared. The famous of all being the famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which still is quoted today. In order for change to take place, an individual must speak up in some sort of public forum to identify the problem.
How might the United States look and be different if the Native Americans were able to remain where they were and were able to continue their lives as they were? America would look and be very different but there were things that led to this not being possible because of the removal of most of the Indians. Such as, The Trail of Tears, The Battle of Wounded, and The Chief Joseph Surrender Speech. All theses things played a role in the removal because they either got rid of the indians, killed them, or left them with very miniscule amounts of land.
The most recent case in the news that involved a live stream on Facebook of an innocent black family. Diamond Reynolds recorded the whole thing. How her and her boyfriend Philando Castile got pulled over for a broken tail light by a Chinese police officer. Philando was shot four or five times on the arm. He did tell the officer that he did have a weapon in his car (a firearm) but that he was licensed to carry. Philando’s girlfriend Diamond claims that all he was doing was reaching out for his license and ID. While she is talking and recording she moves the camera across to show her boyfriend how bloody and how he was losing consciousness, and the cop was still pointing his gun while the officer saw that they had their young daughter in the
