My Advice Essay
In this essay, I'm going to give advice to the high school freshman class to help them out with their last four high school years and to help them be successful. The advice that I am going to give might and probably will help freshmen, whether they are in-coming or already enrolled. The first piece of advice that I believe will be the most helpful is to turn in your paperwork on time, or have it done early if possible. Make sure that you get it turned in on time to get the maximum number of points. And also make sure that you have a separate folder and notebook for EVERY class. I have found this to be most helpful. In high school, it can be easy to get your papers mixed up because many of teachers give you homework

The second piece of advice is to take the time to study the information that the teachers give to you. Study for tests and quizzes several days before the exam, especially for semester tests. Some teachers make that grade worth one-third of your semester grade, and if you really want to get a good grade and do well in school, you need to study all of the time. If you are stuck on a problem or idea and don't understand it, don't be afraid to ask the teacher for help or a friend who is smart. It always pays off to ask for that extra help if you don't get something. The third tip is to not skip class because you don't want to go or because you don't have your homework finished. If the teacher, someone that is looking at you suspiciously or the principal catches you, you know that you are going to get caught. You will have to pay the consequences for skipping class. To add something else, you might miss a class discussion, or you might miss the homework assignment the teacher would be assigning for the class work for today. For freshmen, it can be easy to get lost or go into the wrong class by accident. There are always people that will be happy to help you get to where you need to be at the right time. A tip that someone gave me once is that the "100's" are downstairs and the "200's" are upstairs. For example, if you have a class that is in room 108, you know your class is located downstairs. The upperclassmen might play
In Linda O’Brien’s, “How To Get Good Grades In College,” you will find a plethora of invaluable advice aimed at the novice college student, that if followed, will lead you to not only be a success as a college student but to get the most return on your investment in your future.
Going to class is one of the first things you should probably do. You may be thinking, but if I go to class isn’t that trying to succeed? Well not quite, because in college if you don’t go to the two classes you are automatically dropped form the class. Now you can’t fail if you have nothing to fail in. Come to class late or even leave early. Go to class enough that you will not be dropped from the class. While in class do poorly on coursework,
1. Attend Every Class - Go to every class, be on time, and come with a positive attitude, open mindset, and ready to learn.
My advice to you spring semester students is to stay organized, know your due dates (never ever fall behind on work), and to make sure to keep up strong study habits, whether that’s rewriting notes, making notecards, or re-reading the chapters….KEEP UP WITH THE INFORMATION! And of course, go to class!! There is a lot of information packed into each chapter which makes this course into
Last class, I will be giving advice to you for is Geometry with Mrs. Backstrom. Some of you don't need this advice because you probably already took this class your freshman year (Smart alecks), but for the ones that haven’t taken it here you go. Advice listens to the teacher when she is explaining stuff, don't be afraid to ask questions on tests, and get your homework done no matter what. You take notes like every day but they honestly help you out a lot. So put those big boy/ girl pants on and sit your butt down in your desk and
Any college student will tell you that the only downside to learning is the homework. Sometimes the homework can get overwhelming, to the point that you stress out and don't do it to your full potential. I am in my second year, and I have learned with trial in error the main points that can and will help make doing your homework a lot easier, and will help with your grade too. First and foremost, organization is essential. Organize all your papers for one class in one folder, and have separate folders for each class. There are also folder books that have six or more folders in one, these work just as well. This will help in having all your important papers together, and will not cause you to mix up or loose any of them. When you keep them
If I could go back to freshman year to change some stuff I would. First, I would go back and tell myself to not try so hard on my appearance, but still try every once in awhile to look decent. I look at some of my clothes now from 3 years ago and I want to cry at how bad I started high school. Usually I just wear something comfortable now. Second, I would tell myself to lay off the make up. I always had top and bottom eyeliner on and with my black hair, I almost looked emo. That change needed to happen earlier. Third, I would tell myself to get more involved, because now all I do is work when I should be playing basketball or joining a club. The last thing that I would tell myself would be to not date the first guy who
Coming into high school as a freshman scared and not knowing what to do was one of the many thoughts that were in my mind, but now as a senior that is ready to graduate in a couple of weeks I wish I could have known a couple of things before starting my journey till this day. I have some important advice from my past past experiences to you as a freshman is: Starting a sport to play, Getting involved with clubs, and Being social.
Make sure you do some studying after school everyday. Look over some of your old school work and recall all the things you have learned about.
The first thing you need to remember is to always be curious. Curiosity will take you far in life, especially in college, because it will keep you present. Being present will make classes more bearable, and
Two tips that are most important to me are analytical thinking and effective communication. Analytical thinkers find importance in the smallest of things. It also pointed out, comparing new things to the old, I will apply this to this week and well as in the future. When I'm able to compare the new with the old, it helps me contain information better. Effective communication will be important for me, this week and going forward. I will start to apply effective communication by expressing my ideas as well as listening to the ideas of my classmates. I've learned that listening is an important key in communicating. Another tip that was pointed out was having a willingness and opportunity to learn (Bethel, 2013). I am open to any suggestions, criticism, and new ideas that are presented to
Organizing – I continuously enjoyed having one binder for each lesson and a homework binder where I would put all that was due the next day in, it helps you to not overlook anything. I would get a planner to write your schoolwork projects in… and USE IT. I never did this until my freshman year of high school and, trust me, I wish I used it through middle school too. Oh, and make an effort to study for exams. Really… it will help if you truly sit down and do
When I started high school, I didn't get much academic advice. Everybody told me “have fun, it flies by” and boy were they right. What they didn't tell me was the academic part.
Upon reviewing the “Best Strategies for success in school” I realize that I now apply many ideas I use to ignore to my school approach such as getting to know my instructors, breaking down projects into more manageable tasks to avoid procrastination, and staying healthy. All the strategies listed are important but the three key strategies that will remain with me the longest throughout my academic career will be to getting help with difficult class work early, keeping most
First, we mentioned study. A good student has to do study everyday. Study involves reading the textbooks, understand them, be able to explain it to others and sometimes memorize the most important concepts. As a
