Abortion Should Not be Legal in The United States of America In Roman times, abortion and the destruction of unwanted children was permissible, but as our civilization has aged, it seems that such acts are no longer acceptable by rational human beings. In 1948, Canada along with most other nations in the world signed a declaration of the United Nations promising every human being the right to life. The World Medical Association meeting in Geneva at the same time, stated that the “utmost respect for human life was to be from the moment of conception”. This declaration was re-affirmed when the World Medical Association met in Oslo in 1970. Should we go backwards in our concern for the life of an individual human being? The unborn human …show more content…
No, a fetus is not just another part of a woman's body like an appendix or appendage. These appendages belong to a 10 week developed baby, not to his or her mother, or anyone else who may feel they have the right to destroy another human being. 2) By saying that abortion should be legal people are also saying that homicide, and infanticide should be legal as well. Those who believe in abortion, I believe, are very misguided. They are basically saying that this thing, this fetus living in them should have no greater value than a bug on the floor. Those who perform and believe in abortion believe that society should not have to “deal” with one more child, one more unloved, possibly forgotten, child. This is America aren’t we supposed to show compassion and love for those around us? I also believe that those pushing for the repeal of abortion laws are placing lower values on the life of a fetus. Would these people go out and kill another person for no apparent reason? That is exactly what they are doing by saying that abortion should be legal no matter the situation. The right to life, of all human beings, is undeniable. I do not think this is negotiable. It is easy to be concerned with the welfare of those we know and love, while regarding everybody else as less important and somehow, less real. Most people would rather have heard of the death of thousands in the California earthquake than of a serious accident involving a
First and foremost, every being has a right to life. According to When Religion and Politics mix , “a fetus is an unborn human being, and it is morally wrong to take a human life; the unborn child's life must consequently be legally protected” (McIntosh, Kenneth, and McIntosh, Marsha 60). A woman should have the right to do what she wants to do with her body and her life, but not with another human being. According to Vieira, the baby is entitled
As many researchers suggested, abortion was not only a moral and legal issue, but also essentially a medical issue. Advances in medical sciences pertaining to abortion and child-birth led to new controversies in the abortion debate. For instance, particular advancements made in the case of Down syndrome raised the question that whether selective abortions aided by ultra-sonographic and nuchal translucency in the first trimester violated medical ethics (Khoshnood, 2139). The emerging cases of late-term abortions (also called partial birth abortions) owing to technological advances also also raised questions about the moral base of terminating a life that could possibly survive individually outside the mother’s womb (Miller, 497).
A fetus is a human being once fertilization happens. Lastly, despite the mother's circumstances it shouldn’t stop a “life”. There are alternative things she can do after giving birth such as giving the baby up for adoption.
It has been stated “Abortion” is “the intentional termination of a pregnancy after conception. It allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, but involves killing the undeveloped embryo or fetus (Civil Liberties).” The intentional termination of a pregnancy would imply that a person is using their right of choice to terminate a life in the mother’s womb. The question then becomes, do we as people have the right to terminate life; irrespective of age, development, or culture, within a mother’s womb? From a western cultural perspective, the right to terminate life in the womb has been argued for decades; especially when it relates to the topic of abortion. This paper will argue that the right to terminate life in the womb should be disallowed,
Abortion is still to this day a widely debated issue. Individuals who are abortion advocates argue that abortion allows women to have control over their life and their physical body. Various women may have been placed in drastic situations that resulted in a pregnancy. They might not want the child that resulted from their circumstances. There are women that are too young to give birth and could die from the procedure. Individuals that are against abortion argue that human life matters. Everyone deserves a chance to live. If the pregnancy resulted due to negligence, they should take accountability for the new life they created.
Contrary to popular belief, I feel as if abortion should be illegal in all states. Abortion should not be taken lightly. There are helpless, unborn babies being murdered every day. Unable to stop what is happening to themselves, they put their life in the hands of their makers to do the right thing and give them the best chance at a healthy life. Before the child is even given a chance at life, their fate is decided for them. Whether that be stepping up and being a parent, or giving the helpless child a new home with a loving family that will love and care for them. There is no reason to take the life of an innocent child. That is murder. It is the equivalent of going out and shooting someone in cold blood. No matter how its worded, nothing can change the fact that in an abortion a life is being taken before it has even started. Even then, the mother and father of the child know the

Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere. The practice of abortion should be banned in society because it terminates the life of an
When the word abortion is heard, it is always associated with many negative things such as murder and inhumanity. However not legalizing abortion creates a huge problem for women around the world. Having a child takes consideration, planning and preparation and if pregnancy happens without any of this, why bother to have it at all? The reasons why abortion should be legal is that it supports the fundamental human rights for women by giving them a choice, it reduces crime by reducing the number of children growing up non-optimal conditions, and supports my opinion that abortion is not murder.
A common misconception is that a person is at the moment of conception but this is not the case. It is not a person, as the fetus can’t survive on its own. It is fully dependent on its mother body, unlike born human beings. For the sake of argument, even if the fetus was a person, the right to life doesn’t imply a right to use someone else's body. Just as people have the right to not donate their organs, even if it meant to save someone's life.
One of the major controversial issues confronting the society today is abortion. I choose abortion as the topic of discussion since it contradicts my values and beliefs. Abortion is the extraction of the human fetus from the mother’s womb with an intention to end the life of that fetus prior to its natural birth. The controversy surrounding abortion is whether it should be legalized or not? In my opinion, abortion is morally and ethically wrong because it leads to violation of human rights. Life is precious and only it’s Creator has the right to take it away. I chose this issue for discussion to bring to light many of the hidden facts and arguments, of which people are unaware
Abortion is a highly controversial issue in the United States. Many people have been asking themselves the same question, “Is a mother’s right more important to her unborn child’s?” Late-term abortion is the main topic that has caused most of the issues. Consequently, antiabortion activists continue to pressure politicians to outlaw abortion. Women have the right to make their own decisions, which is stated in the constitution, but they should at least make an informed one. The main argument on abortion is really a debate on human life, and whether it has value from the moment of conception. To kill unborn using medical procedures can cause psychological pain for a woman, can lead to severe medical complications, and can put the unborn
It is not unreasonable to suggest that the vast majority of people consider it morally wrong to kill other persons. There may be examples of situations where the killing of a person may be justifiable, although they are by no means universally consented to, such as killing in self defence or as a form of capital punishment, but taken in isolation it is generally accepted that to kill is wrong. Therefore in the debate between pro and anti abortionists must centre around two essential questions: whether a foetus is a person, and if so when a foetus becomes a person; and whether abortion can be said to be self defence.

Abortion has been an ongoing issue for many years and over the years this issue has grown in importance. This issue is widely argued over many subjects and like many other aspects of the human life, this is an issue which is definitely up for open interpretation. If the word abortion isn’t clear than here is a little definition of it, "the termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival." I don’t think that because a fetus is unborn, that fetus does not have any rights, actually that organism is in development meaning it should hold equal human rights, again it is definitely up for debate. Abortion is a subject which could be considered as a debatable gray area in life which no matter how much is argued will never be clear as to what really is right or wrong. There are many people out there, me included, would go against abortion because we believe that it is a form of murder because even though the organism is helpless is nonetheless a living organism forming to become a human being. There are those who would argue against this and say that it is ok to abort an unborn baby and that a woman has the right to choose what she does with her body and anything which grows and lives inside of her. If she claims that she is not fit to bring a life form into the world than they would argue that abortion is the best way to go without any hesitation. A few questions come up when this issue comes up for debate, for example is abortion
