Abortion Should Not Be Illegal Essay

A woman is walking through a dark alley. She has a bag full of cash that she scraped together and is going to see a man who will probably rip her off. This woman is not what you think, she is receiving an illegal abortion by an untrained surgeon. Many have said that abortion is a crime against humanity, taking away the innocent lives of unborn children. Though, the real crime would be to rob women of their rights and well-being. Abortions should stay legal because the absence of legal abortions will mean rise in dangerous illegal abortions, abortions are a woman’s right, and motherhood has a negative effect on women who aren’t ready.

Through every choice in life, there is a decision that must follow. Abortion is a woman’s individual choice; therefore, must be a legal part in todays society. Individual rights have an outstanding role in the controversial topic, on whether abortion should become legal in the United States . The individual rights for abortion show rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As well, women should be able to have the choice to choose to have an abortion for several important reasons. The right to make these decisions should lie in the hands of the “mother” to make decisions concerning their own to make decisions concerning their own bodies. Having an abortion may be a huge stress relief for those women who were victims of rape. In these tragic situations the victims should not be obligated to have a child. Conceiving a child that resulted through this horrific circumstance can be a constant reminder to those victims of the trauma they went through. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, “among adult women an estimated 32, 101 pregnancies result from rape each year". This is a significantly large number, victims of rape are already in great distress, fear and grief and after the trauma they already experienced they should not have the added pressure to be obligated by society to conceive they do not want to. Rape victims have gone through enough mental trauma and that their psychological health should be valued more than the right to life of the fetus. It is a personal decision the victim should be allowed to make without any legal bindings. As quoted by Dr. David C. Reardon, "how can you deny an abortion to a twelve year old girl who is the victim of incest”?

Approximately 1.6 million murders are committed legally each year. While the mutilated bodies of the victims lay waiting in infested dumpsters to be hauled off to a landfill, the murderers are in their offices waiting for their next patient. This is the murder of an innocent child by a procedure known as abortion. Abortion stops the beating of an innocent child’s heart. People must no longer ignore the scientific evidence that life begins at the moment of conception. People can no longer ignore the medical and emotional problems an abortion causes women. Many people are for and against abortions. Some people say that the child inside its mother’s womb deserves the opportunity to live, while others believe that a mother has the right to choose whether or not her fetus can live or die. Other advocates for abortion claim that abortion helps keep the threat of overpopulation down. They also say that in many extreme cases, it is in the best interest of the mother and the child that the fetus be aborted. Abortion helps keep the crime rate low, so it should remain legal, they also say.

Abortion is killing of an unborn baby. It is a procedure that is performed during the early stages of pregnancy. In the past abortion used to be illegal, however it is now legal and is also a major controversy in our country today. On one hand are the Pro-Choice supporters mostly consisting of feminist, teen mothers, rape, and incest victims. On the other hand are the Pro-Life supporters, mostly consisting of Christians and Catholics. In spite of the many arguments in favor of abortion, the murder of unborn infants is wrong, immoral, and should be illegal.

Abortion, one of the most controversial ongoing issues, has become common in the United States. There are a lot of reasons defending the legalization of abortion. However, understanding the medical information and perspectives on abortion can solve this controversial issue. Unlike the common knowledge that abortion is performed in an unsafe setting and has the potential long-term complications, abortion is actually performed by professions and has few complications if it is performed within twelve weeks of pregnancy.

A lot of people can find pros to having abortions, while the same amount of people can find cons. Many researchers have investigated problems with having abortions. Due to all the laws that are currently being put in place everywhere, abortions are expected to decline, but some people still do not understand the dangers to them. Abortion should be considered illegal in the United States due to the understanding that technically it is murder; therefore, laws such as Roe vs Wade should be repealed indefinitely.

Women should be able to make the decision and have that be all but to be told no and be told she has to go through unnecessary steps to be able to is crazy. A Texas woman was experiencing complications with her fetus so she decided to stop her pregnancy only to find out she had to go through unnecessary steps that just caused her more pain and suffering.  “I found a statement about women who may opt out of the new sonogram edict. It seemed that minors, victims of rape or incest, and cases in which the baby has an irreversible abnormality might be spared the extra anguish.” (Jones) The women told the clinic and she was just blown off because the nurse made and mistake and in a lot of society’s opinion that is very wrong. In Africa, there are 29 abortions per 1,000 women, and 32 per 1,000 in Latin America (Singer). Women of poverty feel as if the only way is through abortion because they aren’t mentally or financially stable enough to afford to care for a child. A mother’s mental health shouldn’t be put after a fetus that isn’t even born just because of one’s religious belief. However, with not being able to provide for a baby is the number one reason for abortions the second highest reason is rape.

Abortion, the termination of pregnancy before the fetus is capable of independent life, can either be spontaneous or induced. It is called "the knowing destruction of the life of an unborn child." (Mass General Laws Chapter 112 Section 12K) When abortion occurs spontaneously, it is called a miscarriage. However, when the loss of a fetus is caused intentionally, it is regarded as a moral issue. Abortion destroys the lives of helpless, innocent children and is illegal in many countries. An estimate of 1.2 million are performed each year. In retrospect, an estimate 38,010,378 innocent children were aborted since 1973 when the process was legalized.

Abortion was legalized in 1973, since that time nearly fifty-six million unborn babies have been murdered, that is one baby aborted every twenty seconds. The child has no choice whether to be conceived or not. The techniques they use are awful, we would never put a living child through that so why would be put an unborn child that can still feel pain through this. An abortion is not only painful to the unborn fetus but also to the mother as well. She will face not only physical pain but physiological pain as well.

American women face sexual assaults every day and in some cases the victims are impregnated in the process. With that being said, more acceptance is earned for women that do not want to deal with that pain of bringing a child into this world due to reluctance. (The acceptance of abortion) Being took advantage of and being impregnated by someone has no comparison, but if “one” could compare, it would be like being forced into marriage with someone you do not know. Imagen if “one” had to engage in a ceremony such as marriage, the love has to be there, the trust has to be there, and the agreement has to be there. Having a baby holds most of the same values. Sadly, women are faced with problems such as being sexual assaulted, but what make matters worse are when they are left with the decision to abort their unborn child if impregnated. No one should be able to oppose that decision or tell a female that has been impregnated unwillingly that she cannot get an abortion because it goes against everything America stands for, freedom. Although, sexual assault is not legal. Even though abortions are highly questionable there is just about a split difference, concerning if the people of America think that abortion should be illegal or not.
